A pályázat célja Hesz Ágnes "Élők, holtak és adósságok. A halottak szerepe egy erdélyi falu társadalmában" c. monográfiájának megjelentetése a L'Harmattan Kiadó és a PTE BTK Néprajz - Kulturális Antropológia Tanszék közös kiadásában. A könyv a szerző 2009-ben megvédett doktori disszertációjának átdolgozott változata. Azt kívánja bemutatni, hogy a halottaknak milyen szerepe van egy közösség, a gyimesi csángók életében. Az élők és holtak közti összetett és ellentmondásos viszony, valamint az e viszonyt meghatározó fogalmi, rituális és társadalmi keretek bemutatása mellett az írás középpontjába azok az összefüggések kerültek, amelyek az élők egymáshoz, és a halottakhoz fűződő kapcsolata között fennállnak. A könyv egyrészt rávilágít azokra a morális értékekre, együttműködésekre vonatkozó elvárásokra, amelyek mindkét viszonyban tetten érhetők. Másrészt részletesen foglalkozik azzal, hogy az élők és holtak között különböző formában (halotti rítusok, álom, látomás) végbemenő kommunikációnak milyen szerepe van a társadalmi kapcsolatok alakításában, azaz, hogyan válik az élő közösségen belül zajló kommunikációvá, az élők hogyan és mit közölnek egymással a halottakon keresztül. A könyv támaszkodik a magyar néphit és népszokáskutatás eredményeire, ugyanakkor elméleti kiindulópontja, szociálantropológiai kérdésfeltevése és megközelítésmódja új szemléletet képvisel a magyar néprajzkutatásban.
Summary
The aim of the application is to publish the book "The Dead, the Living and their Debts. The Role of the Dead in a Transylvanian Village Community" written by Agnes Hesz and based on the author's PhD dissertation. The book is going to be published by L'Harmattan and the European Ethnology - Cultural Anthropology Department of the University of Pécs. It focuses on the various roles the dead have in a contemporary village community. Besides describing the conceptual, ritual and social background of the complex relations between the living and the dead, the texts centres on the various ways in which the beliefs of and practices toward the dead structure relationships within the living society. On the one hand it highlights the norms and moral expectations governing social behaviour both among the living and towards the dead. On the other it argues that the communication between the living and the dead (through death rituals, dreams and visions) is at the same time communication between the living, and shows in great detail how people use it to negotiate their social position and relations within the community. The book relies on the results of former researches on Hungarian folk beliefs and rituals, but its theoretical background, social anthropological approach and field method represent a new approach in Hungarian ethnography.
