A kiadandó kötet címe: Anthony A. Long – David N. Sedley: A hellénisztikus filozófusok. Fordította: Bárány István, Bene László, Böröczki Tamás, Brunner Ákos, Simon Attila és Szekeres Csilla. A magyar kiadást szerkesztette: Bene László.
A kiadandó mű a hellénisztikus filozófia forrásainak mérvadó gyűjteménye, számos nyelven megjelent, világszerte a filozófia és a rokon tudományok nélkülözhetetlen kutatási eszköze. Magyar kiadása hiánypótló. A magyar terminológia megteremtése illetve egységesítése valódi tudományos feladat. A mű magyar kiadásának megjelenése lehetővé tenné, hogy a filozófia és a társdiszciplínák művelői a hellénisztikus filozófiai tanokat egységes terminológiában tárgyalják, és a fennmaradt forrásokat a nemzetközileg elfogadott, standardizált referencia-rendszer alapján idézzék.

Our project is aimed at the publication of a Hungarian edition of the fundamental collection of the sources of Hellenistic philosophy: A. A. Long – D. N. Sedley, The Hellenistic philosophers. Vol. 1: Translations of the Principal Sources, with Philosophical Commentary. Vol. 2: Greek and Latin Texts with Notes and Bibliography. Cambridge University Press, 1987.
The title of the volume to be published: Anthony A. Long – David N. Sedley: A hellénisztikus filozófusok. Fordította: Bárány István, Bene László, Böröczki Tamás, Brunner Ákos, Simon Attila és Szekeres Csilla. A magyar kiadást szerkesztette: Bene László.
The work to be published is the authoritative collection of the sources relating to Hellenistic philosophy. It has been published in several languages, and it is regarded as an indispensable research tool in philosophy and in other related disciplines all over the world. A Hungarian edition of this work is badly needed, and it will fill a gap in Hungarian scholarship. The creation of a Hungarian terminology for this field is a genuine scholarly task. The publication of the Hungarian edition of the volume will enable philosophers as well as researchers working in related fields to discuss the Hellenistic philosophical doctrines in a unified, systematic terminology, and to quote the preserved sources according to a standardized system of reference which is internationally used in scholarly literature.

Kiadásunk a görög és latin forrásszövegeket magyar fordításban közli (Long és Sedley értelmezését tiszteletben tartva), az eredeti szövegeket nem nyomtuk újra. A második kötetből átemeltük a filozófiailag is releváns kommentárokat valamint a bibliográfiát. A bibliográfiához az újabb szakirodalmat áttekintő függeléket csatoltunk, továbbá a magyar nyelvű irodalom bibliográfiáját.
A kötetből példányt kapnak a kötelespéldány szolgáltatási rendelet által megjelölt könyvtárak; az ELTE, SZTE, Miskolci Egyetem, PTE, DE, PPKE, KRE egyetemi könyvtára és filozófia intézeti könyvtárai, MTA Filozófiai Intézetének könyvtára és az MTA Könyvtára.

We translated the Greek and Latin sources (respecting the interpretations given by Long and Sedley); the original texts are not reprinted. Our edition includes, however, the philosophically relevant parts of the commentary and the bibliography from the second volume of the English edition. Furthermore, it contains a coplementary bibliography of the recent literature and a bibliography of the Hungarian literature on Hellenistic philosophy.
A copy has been sent to the national legal deposit libraries, as well as to the university libraries and to the ibraries of the philosophical institutes of the following institutions: Eötvös University, University of Szeged, University of Miskolc, University of Pécs, Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
