Itt írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit a témában jártas szakember számára.
A magyar reformkor és a horvát nemzeti ébredés eszmerendszerének, az illír mozgalom esemény- és fejlődéstörténetének összevetése, valamint az illír mozgalom meghatározó szereplőinek pályaképe alapján joggal feltételezhető, hogy a horvát nemzeti mozgalom jelentős mértékben magyar „mintákat” és „példákat” követve dolgozta ki sajátnak és eredetinek kikiáltott nemzeti „újjászületési” programjait. A kutatás célja a mindezidáig elhanyagolt alapkutatási feladat elvégzése: a magyar és a horvát nemzeti ébredés közötti sokoldalú genetikai kapcsolatok feltárása, a feltárt összefüggések minél teljesebb filológiai leírása és rendszerezése, majd az eredmények monográfiában történő összefoglalása.
A kutatás első szakaszában áttekintjük azokat a magyar és horvát folyóiratokat, amelyek a testvérnemzet belpolitikai, gazdasági és kulturális eseményeivel, kezdeményezéseivel foglalkoznak. Részletesen megvizsgáljuk az illír mozgalom (Magyarországon jószerivel ismeretlen) programadó írásait, a mozgalom vezéralakjainak életrajzai, naplói és levelezése alapján azt is feltárjuk, hogy az illír mozgalom fő képviselői milyen magyar kapcsolatrendszerrel rendelkeztek. A magyar reformkor történelmének, politikai és kulturális tendenciáinak feltérképezése után összehasonlító áttekintést készítünk a horvát illírizmus és a magyar reformkor fő eszmei, kulturális és politikai áramlatairól, végül pedig körvonalazzuk azokat az illírista elgondolásokat, amelyeknél szóba jöhet a magyar hatás. Az elért eredményeket minden egyes kutatási szakasz lezárultával önálló tanulmányban/tanulmányokban tesszük közzé, a kutatás végeztével pedig az elért eredményeket önálló monográfiában foglaljuk össze.
Mi a kutatás alapkérdése?
Ebben a részben írja le röviden, hogy mi a kutatás segítségével megválaszolni kívánt probléma, mi a kutatás kiinduló hipotézise, milyen kérdéseket válaszolnak meg a kísérletek.
A kutatás kiinduló hipotézise az, hogy a magyar reformkor szellemi áramlatai mind az eszmeiség, mind a konkrét célkitűzések tekintetében közvetlenül és erőteljesen hatottak a horvát nemzeti ébredésre. A sok esetben elfogult horvát történetírás és irodalomtörténet-írás elfedte ezeket a hatásokat, így feltétlenül szükség van az illír mozgalom ilyen szempontú újraértelmezésére.
A forrásdokumentumok feltárása, vizsgálata, rendszerezése, a magyar és a horvát nemzeti ébredés fő eszmei, kulturális és politikai áramlatainak összevetése, az illír kezdeményezések, szellemi áramlatok magyar előzményeinek és inspirációnak kutatása során az alábbi fő kérdéseket fogjuk szem előtt tartani:
- A magyar felvilágosodás és romantika során született nyelvújítási koncepciók közül melyekkel kerültek kapcsolatba az illíristák?
- Milyen módon inspirálták ezek az illíristák célkitűzéseit és tevékenységét?
- A magyar reformkor mely eszméinek hatása mutatható ki az illír mozgalom fő programadó szövegeiben?
- Mennyiben hatottak ezek az eszmék az Illír Párt, majd a Horvát Nemzeti Párt programjára és célkitűzéseire?
- Milyen szerepe volt Széchenyi István példájának, munkásságának és eszméinek az illírizmus szellemi arculatának kialakításában?
- Mennyiben járult hozzá a Horvát István neve által fémjelzett romantikus történetírási irányzat az illírizmus identitásnarratíva-teremtő törekvéseihez?
- Milyen hatást tett a Tudományos Gyűjteményben kirajzolódó nemzet- és identitás-felfogás a formálódó horvát nemzetképre?
Mi a kutatás jelentősége?
Röviden írja le, milyen új perspektívát nyitnak az alapkutatásban az elért eredmények, milyen társadalmi hasznosíthatóságnak teremtik meg a tudományos alapját. Mutassa be, hogy a megpályázott kutatási területen lévő hazai és a nemzetközi versenytársaihoz képest melyek az egyediségei és erősségei a pályázatának!
A projekt kifejezetten alapkutatási irányultságú, hiszen olyan korszak- és eszmetörténeti probléma összehasonlító szempontú vizsgálatát célozza, amely a horvát nemzetté válás folyamatában kulcsfontosságú, ám az eddigi szintézisek csupán felszínesen és elnagyoltan érintették azokat a magyar hatásokat és mintákat, amelyek nyilvánvalóan jelen vannak. Kutatásunk célja a kor valóságos szellemtörténeti és eszmetörténeti kontextusának megrajzolása, amely a magyar minták és inspirációk valódi jelentőségének feltárása és kidomborítása nélkül nem lehetséges. A feltárt mélyebb összefüggések révén kulcsfontosságú irodalmi szerzők (pl. Ivan Mažuranić) teljes munkássága is új megvilágításba kerülhet.
A kutatás átfogó jellegéből adódóan a projekt eredményeként létrejövő monográfia számos tudományterületen fontos kutatásokat indíthat el, elsősorban a történelemtudomány, a kultúrtörténet, az eszmetörténet és az irodalomtörténet területén. Feltétlenül kiemelendő, hogy a korszakra vonatkozó horvát történeti és irodalomtörténeti kutatások eddigi egyoldalú szemléletét (a kutatás eredményeinek horvát nyelvű közzététele esetén) az új felismerések és eredmények révén jelentős mértékben gazdagítani, módosítani és megváltoztatni is lehet.
Megvalósítása esetén az általunk tervezett projekt nagymértékben hozzájárul a reformkori magyar eszmék és a magyar klasszicista líra közép-európai hatásának feltérképezéséhez, továbbá a magyar nyelvújítási kezdeményezések közép-európai perspektívába helyezéséhez. A magyar irodalomtörténet-írás-diskurzus újabb keletű radikális koncepcionális változásainak fényében elmélyültebb értelmezést nyerhet a „magyarországi” irodalom fogalma is, hiszen nyilvánvaló, hogy a 19. század első fele térségünkben olyan kulturális és szellemi areát képez, amely a maga valóságában egységként funkcionált és egzisztált. Végül, az általunk tervezett monográfia a 19. századi nemzetiségi kérdés multikulturális történelmi narratívák szerinti átértékelését, átértelmezését célzó kutatásoknak is fontos kezdeményezője lehet.
A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára
Ebben a fejezetben írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit alapműveltséggel rendelkező laikusok számára. Ez az összefoglaló a döntéshozók, a média, illetve az érdeklődők tájékoztatása szempontjából különösen fontos az NKFI Hivatal számára.
A magyar reformkor és a horvát nemzeti ébredés fő kezdeményezője, az illír mozgalom eseményeinek és fejlődésének összevetése, kulcsfiguráinak pályaképe alapján joggal tételezhetjük fel, hogy a horvát nemzeti mozgalom korábban sajátként-eredetiként feltüntetett eszmerendszerének kialakításában a magyar eszmék és kezdeményezések is fontos szerepet játszottak. Az általunk tervezett projekt célja a magyar és a horvát nemzeti ébredés meghatározó alakjai közti személyi érintkezések, a korszakban született publicisztikák, programadó szövegek és irodalmi alkotások filológiailag igazolható egymásra hatásának feltárása, a feltárt összefüggések precíz filológiai leírása és rendszerezése, valamint az eredmények monográfiában való összefoglalása. Feltett szándékunk a kor valóságos szellemtörténeti és eszmetörténeti kontextusának megrajzolása, amely a magyar minták és inspirációk valódi jelentőségének feltárása és kidomborítása nélkül nem lehetséges.
Megvalósítása esetén az általunk tervezett projekt nagymértékben hozzájárul a reformkori magyar eszmék és a magyar klasszicista líra közép-európai hatásának feltérképezéséhez, a magyar nyelvújítási kezdeményezések közép-európai perspektívába helyezéséhez, a nemzetiségek irodalmait is figyelembe vevő magyarországi irodalomtörténet(ek) megírásához, valamint a 19. századi nemzetiségi kérdés multikulturális szempontok szerinti átértékeléséhez. | Summary Summary of the research and its aims for experts
Describe the major aims of the research for experts.
Comparing the history of events and ideas of the Hungarian and the Croatian National Revival, and considering the biographies of the leading figures of the Illyrian Movement, one can reasonably assume that their system of values, which have always been presented as an autochthonous construct of ideas, was in fact greatly influenced by the Hungarian examples and ideals. The aim of our project is to accomplish an important piece of fundamental research which has been neglected so far: to reveal the genetic contacts between the Hungarian and the Croatian movements, to philologically describe and systematize the discovered interrelations, and to publish the results in a monograph.
In the first part of the research, we are going to review those Hungarian and Croatian journals which deal with the domestic politics and culture of the other nation. We are going to meticulously analyse the programmatic texts of the Illyrists (which are nearly unknown in Hungary), and, on the basis of their biography, correspondence and diaries of the key figures of the movement, we are going to retrace their network of Hungarian acquaintances. After taking a survey of the history and the political and cultural tendencies of the Hungarian reform period, we are going to compare the main intellectual, cultural and political trends of the Croatian and the Hungarian National Revival. On the basis of these, we are going to outline those Illyrian conceptions which are supposedly of Hungarian origin. At the end of each research phase, we are going to publish its results in a stand-alone publication. When the research is finished, we are going to summarize the results in a stand-alone monograph.
What is the major research question?
Describe here briefly the problem to be solved by the research, the starting hypothesis, and the questions addressed by the experiments.
The initial hypothesis of our research is that the intellectual trends of the Hungarian reform period have directly and forcefully affected the Croatian National Revival, concerning the aims and the ideas, too. Due to the fact that the Croatian historiography and literary historiography in many cases approached the subject in a biased way and concealed these influences, it is inevitably necessary to reinterpret the Illyrian Movement from this point of view.
The discovery, the analysis and the sorting of the source documents, the comparison of the main intellectual, cultural and political trends of the Hungarian and the Croatian National Revival and the research of the Hungarian antecedents and inspirations of the Illyrian intellectual trends and initiatives will be guided by the following questions:
- Which are those Enlightenment and Romantic plans of language reform which could affect the Illyrists as well?
- How could these inspire the Illyrists' aims and activities?
- Which ideas of the Hungarian reform period can be traced in the main programmatic texts of the Illyrian Movement?
- How did these ideas affect the programmes and goals of the Illyrian Party and the Croatian National Party?
- What kind of role did the personal example, work and ideas of István Széchenyi have in the development of the intellectual image of the Illyrism?
- How did the Romantic historiographical trend initiated by István Horvát contribute to the efforts of the Illyrism to develop a national narrative of identity?
- How did the approach to nation and identity outlined in the journal Tudományos Gyűjtemény affect the construction of the Croatian national self-image?
What is the significance of the research?
Describe the new perspectives opened by the results achieved, including the scientific basics of potential societal applications. Please describe the unique strengths of your proposal in comparison to your domestic and international competitors in the given field.
Regarding its purposes, our project is fundamental research, because its aims to develop a comparative analysis of an important issue in the epoch history and intellectual history, which is key to the understanding of the formation of the Croatian nation. It is clear that the Hungarian influences and patterns played an important role in this process, but the previous historical syntheses discussed these only in a superficial, tangential way. The aim of our research is to outline the real conceptual and intellectual context of the age which is not possible without unveiling and accentuating the true importance of the Hungarian models and inspiration in this process. The deeper connections discovered by our research can shed a new light upon the entire oeuvre of certain key authors (eg. Ivan Mažuranić).
Owing to the comprehensive character of the research, the resulting monograph may inspire numerous researches in different disciplines, especially within history, cultural history, history of ideas and literary history. It should be nevertheless emphasized that (if our monograph gets published in Croatian) the new results and recognitions can significantly enrich, modify and, what is more, dramatically change the perspective of the Croatian history and literary history which, until now, has been definitely one-sided.
The accomplishment of our project will significantly contribute to the exploration of the Central European influence of the ideas of the Hungarian reform period and Classicist poetry. They will also help to place the initiatives of the Hungarian language reform in a Central European perspective. In the light of the recent radical conceptional changes of the Hungarian literary historiography, the term „literature within Hungary” can gain a more profound interpretation, because it is apparent that the region in the first half of the 19th century constituted such a cultural and literary area which was functioning and existing as an organic whole. Finally, our monograph can be an important catalyst of further research aiming to re-evaluate and reinterpret the issue of the ethnic minorities in the 19th century Hungary.

Our intention is to outline the real conceptual and intellectual context of the period which is not possible without unveiling and accentuating the true importance of the Hungarian models and inspirations in this process.
The accomplishment of our project can help a lot to explore the Central European influence of the ideas of the Hungarian reform period and Classicist poetry. They will also help to place the initiatives of the Hungarian language reform in a Central European perspective, to develop (a) literary histori(es) of Hungary which will include the literatures of the ethnic minorities, and to re-evaluate the issue of the ethnic minorities in the 19th century Hungary. If they get published in Croatian, our new results and recognitions can significantly enrich, modify and, what is more, dramatically change the perspective of the Croatian history and literary history which, until now, has been definitely one-sided.
