A kutatás a nemzetközi agrárkereskedelem, a kereskedelmi megállapodások hatásait vizsgálta a klímaváltozásra nemzetközi, regionális és EU-s szinten. A téma jellegéből adódóan a terület elemzésére főleg kvantitatív kutatási módszertan, sokváltozós ökonometriai adatelemzési technikák kerültek alkalmazásra. Az eredmények alapján megállapítható, hogy a nemzetközi agrárkereskedelem és a azzal összefüggő kibocsátás kettős, pozitív és negatív hatással is bírhat a természeti környezetre és a klímaváltozásra. A magasabb hozzáadott értékű mezőgazdasági tevékenység növelhette vagy akár csökkenthette is a szennyezés mértékét. A mezőgazdasági ÜHG-kibocsátás szintjének csökkentése részben az állattenyésztési szektor növekedési ütemének mérséklésével, fajlagos hozamainak növelésével (kisebb állatállomány, hatékonyabb hús- és tejtermelés) lenne elérhető. A növénytermesztésen belül az ökológiai, bio- és fenntartható gazdálkodási módok arányának emelése különösen az intenzív mezőgazdasági termelést folytató, fejlett országokban csökkenthetné levegőszennyezést. A távoli országok között zajló élelmiszer-kereskedelem is nagymértékben felelősnek tekinthető a növekvő mezőgazdasági ÜHG-kibocsátásért. Ezért a helyi mezőgazdasági termékek fogyasztásának támogatásával, a termelői piacok működésének ösztönzésével és a rövid ellátási láncok terjedésével elősegíthető lenne a globális szennyezés csökkentése.

The research project aimed to investigate the impacts of agriculture and international agricultural trade and trade agreements on climate change at the international, regional, EU and global levels. Due to the nature of the topic, the analysis of this area was mainly based on quantitative research methodology and multivariate econometric data analysis techniques. The results clearly show that international agricultural trade and trade-related emissions can positively and negatively impact the natural environment and climate change. The results did not provide a clear picture of the environmental and climate impact of agriculture. Higher value-added agricultural activity could increase or even decrease pollution. Reducing the level of GHG emissions from agriculture could be partly achieved by reducing the growth rate of the livestock sector and increasing its specific yields (lower level of livestock, more efficient meat and dairy production). Increasing the share of organic and sustainable farming methods in crop production could reduce air pollution, especially in developed countries with intensive agricultural production. Food trade between distant countries is also largely responsible for increasing agricultural GHG emissions. Therefore, by promoting the consumption of local agricultural products, encouraging farmers' markets and taking advantage of the positive environmental effects of short supply chains, global pollution could be reduced.
