A kétnyelvű kötet középpontjában egy 15. századi magyarországi gregoriánkódex, egy graduále mindössze nyolc fennmaradt, és egymástól kisebb-nagyobb távolságokban (budapesti, pécsi, szombathelyi könyvtárakban és levéltárakben) őrzött töredéke áll. Néhány ma is könyvborítóként szolgál, többségüket azonban lefejtették az őrzőkötetről, őrzőiratról. A fennmaradt kottás kódexfragmentumok vizsgálata alapján sikerült rekonstruálnon, majd azonosítanom a háttérben álló középkori anyakódexet. A kódexrészek több szempontú vizsgálatának eredményeiről fejezetenként számolok be. Az elemzés elvezetett a kéziratot előállító nagyszombati másolóműhelyhez és a kódex egykori használati helyéhez, a nagyszombati plébániatemplomhoz. Munkám a konrét anyakódex azonosításánál valójában ambíciózusabb eredménnyel zárult: a 15. századi magyarországi és közép-európai zenei írásbeliség és kultúrtörténet számos jelenségéről, összefüggéséről szolgál új adalékokkal, ezért számítok mind a hazai, mind a külföldi kutatás (több terület) érdeklődésére.

At the heart of the bilingual volume is a 15th-century Hungarian Gregorian codex, a gradual, of which only eight fragments survive today, preserved in small and large distances from each other (archives and libraries in Budapest, Pécs, Szombathely). Some of them are still used as book covers, but most of them have been removed from their host books and documents. The study of the surviving fragments of the musical codex has enabled me to reconstruct and identify the underlying medieval mother codex. The results of the multifaceted analysis of the codex fragments are reported chapter by chapter. The analysis led me to the copying workshop in Nagyszombat where the manuscript was produced, and to the former place of use of the codex in the parish church of the town. In fact, my work has led to a more ambitious result than the identification of a mother codex: it provides new insights into a number of phenomena and contexts of musical literacy and cultural history in Hungary and Central Europe in the 15th century, and can therefore be of interest to both Hungarian and international researchers from several fields.
