A megjelentetni tervezett kiadvány bemutatása Mutassa be a megjelentetni tervezett kiadványt (műfaj, nyelv, tartalom, példányszám, megjelenés várható ideje). Ismertesse a kiadvány jelentőségét a hazai és nemzetközi szakmai közösség számára. A pályázat „A Tatárjárás Magyarországon és a mongol hódítás eurázsiai összefüggései” című kutatás (NKFIH K 128880) kiadványának open-access megjelentetésére irányul. A kutatás egyik legfontosabb rendezvénye a 2020 novemberében megrendezett nemzetközi konferencia volt. A „The Mongols in Central Europe: The Profile and Impact of their Thirteenth-Century Invasions” című konferencia az első olyan nemzetközi tudományos program volt, amely kifejezetten a mongolok 13. századi közép-európai hadjáratainak vizsgálatát tűzte ki céljául. A konferencia résztvevői számos európai és Európán kívüli ország kutatását képviselték. A tervezett kötet nem egyszerűen a konferencia előadásainak publikálását szolgálja, hanem több olyan tanulmányt is közöl majd, többek között B. Szabó János és Veszprémy László tollából, melynek szerzői nem tartottak előadást a konferencián. A kötet szerzői között van lengyel, cseh, szlovák, horvát, szerb, bolgár kutató, valamint egy erdélyi magyar régész is. A tervezett angol nyelvű tanulmánykötet megjelentetésére nyitott a Brill kiadó. Fontosnak tartjuk, hogy egyrészt a hazai szakemberek közreműködésével is zajló kutatás eredményei a legelismertebb nemzetközi kiadók egyikénél jelenjen meg, és ennek a szempontnak a Brill kiadó kétségtelenül megfelel. Emellett lényeges, hogy a tanulmánykötet minél szélesebb körben legyen elérhető. Ezért célunk az open access megjelenés. A jelenlegi pályázat az open access költségek fedezésére irányul. A kötet az open access formátum mellett a kiadó által meghatározott nyomtatott példányszámban fog megjelenni, előreláthatóan 2022 negyedik negyedévében.
A projekt összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára Adjon egy rövid, közérthető ismertetést a tervezett kiadvány tartalmi felépítéséről és céljáról. A tatárjárás a magyar történelem kiemelkedő fontosságú eseménye, meghatározó eleme a nemzeti emlékezetnek. Az elmúlt egy-két évtized hazai kutatásai számos tanulsággal jártak a tatárjárás vizsgálatában, nagyszámú friss régészeti lelet és más új kutatási eredmény tanúsítja ezt. Hosszabb idő után a tatárjárás ismét a kutatások előterébe került, és ezt nemcsak a hazai, hanem a régió számos más országában született eredmény is mutatja. A mongoloknak az 1240-es években végrehajtott hadjáratai nem csupán magyar történeti szempontból fontosak. A mongol csapatok behatoltak Közép-Európa számos más országának a területére is, pusztításuk pedig nyomot hagyott az adott országok történeti emlékezetében. Ennek az eseménysornak a kutatása számos közép-európai, és a régión túli ország kutatóinak az érdeklődését felkeltette. A tervezett open access, tehát szabad hozzáférésű kötet ezeknek a kutatásoknak az eredményeit mutatja be. A kötet, bár az anyaga egy 2020-ban tartott konferencia előadásaira épül, de nem egyszerűen azok leírt szövegének a gyűjteménye. A válogatást igyekeztünk kiegészíteni olyan hazai, külföldi, illetve, határon túli magyar kutatók írásaival, akiknek a munkássága megkerülhetetlen ezen a téren. A szerzők között történészek mellett megtalálhatók régészek, művészettörténészek, orientalisták, illetve a mongolok történetére specializálódott kutatók is, ami lehetővé teszi a téma interdiszciplináris megközelítését. A kötet angolul fog megjelenni, hogy az érdeklődők számára a legszélesebb körben elérhető legyen, és a hazai kutatás eredményei ilyen módon is beépülhessenek a nemzetközi tudományos ismeretekbe. A kötetet térképek és képek egészítik ki.
Summary
Presentation of the proposed publication Present the proposed publication (type, language, content, number of copies, expected date of publication). Present the significance of the publication for the domestic and international scientific community. The proposal concerns an open access publication prepared by “The Mongol Invasion of Hungary in its Eurasian Context” research project (NKFIH K 128880). One of the most important events organized by the project was an international conference in November 2020. The conference entitled “The Mongols in Central Europe: The Profile and Impact of their Thirteenth-Century Invasions” was the first international academic event solely dedicated to the thirteenth Central European military campaigns of the Mongol army, with delegates bringing state-of-the art research from Europe and beyond. The planned volume is not simply a summary of the research presented at the conference as it contains studies by authors who did not present their papers, such as János B. Szabó and László Veszprémy. The contributors include Polish, Czech, Slovakian, Croatian, Serbian, and Bulgarian researchers, as wells as a Hungarian archaeologist from Transylvania. Brill Academic Publishers is open to publish the volume. It is vital to publish the results of a project enlisting the work of Hungarian scholars at well-known academic publishers, and Brill is doubtless one of the best. It is equally important to make the publication widely accessible, which is why we aim for open access options. The present application is to cover the costs of open access publication fees. Besides the open access, the book will also appear in hard copies in the fourth quarter of 2022, in the print run specified by the publisher.
Summary and aims of the project for a general audience Provide a short, general introduction to the structure and aim of the proposed publication. The Mongol Invasion is a watershed event in Hungarian history, one that determines national historical memory to this day. Hungarian research in the recent decades brought new perspectives in the study of the Mongol invasion, which have been highlighted and justified by a great number of new archaeological finds and innovative conclusions since then. After a period of relative inactivity, the Mongol Invasion is once again in the crosshairs of research both in Hungary and in other countries of the Central and Eastern European region. The historical importance of Mongol military maneuvres in the 1240s goes beyond the borders of Hungary. The Mongol troops encroached upon the territories of other Central European countries and their plundering raids left their imprint on their respective historical memories. Researching this series of events is highly relevant for academics in Central Europe and beyond. The planned open access volume presents the latest research in the field. It entails but is not limited to the papers presented at an international conference held in 2020. The conference contributions are supplemented by studies by Hungarian and international scholars as well as Hungarian researchers from beyond the borders, whose definitive work has been shaping the field recently. The authors include historians, archaeologists, art historians, orientalists, as well as researchers specializing in Mongol history, which guarantees the collection’s truly interdisciplinary approach. The language of the volume is English to facilitate easy access to Hungarian research for the widest possible audiences, and to foster their results’ further embeddedness in relevant international academic research. The text is complemented with maps and images.

A pályázat eredményeként sikerült open access formában elérhetővé tenni A Tatárjárás Magyarországon és a mongol hódítás eurázsiai összefüggései (NKFI-K-128880) című kutatási program angol nyelvű záró tanulmánykötetét, amely The Mongols in Central Europe: The Profile and Impact of their Thirteenth-Century Invasions címmel jelent meg. A pályázati támogatást a tanulmánykötet szövegének a kiadásra való előkészítésére, illetve a kiadói költségek fedezésére használtuk fel. A kötet huszonkét hazai és külföldi szerző tanulmányait közli, és pillanatnyilag a mongol hódítás közép-európai hatásával foglalkozó megmodernebb és legteljesebb összefoglalónak tekinthető.

As a result of the project, the summarising volume of the research program (The Mongol Invasion of Hungary in its Eurasian Context, NKFI-K-128880), The Mongols in Central Europe: The Profile and Impact of their Thirteenth-Century Invasions, has been published in English and made available in open access format. The grant has been used to prepare the text for publication and to cover publishing costs. The volume brings together papers by twenty-two Hungarian and foreign experts and is currently considered the most modern and comprehensive synthesis of the impact of the Mongol conquest in Central Europe.
