A projekt keretében támogatott nemzetközi tudományos vagy innovációs rendezvény bemutatása: Mutassa be a szervezés alatt álló nemzetközi rendezvény jellegét, célját, programját, célcsoportját és jelentőségét a nemzetközi, illetve hazai tudományos élet szempontjából, utalva a rendezvényhez kapcsolódó nyílt előadásra is. Nemzetközi konferenciánk célja, hogy lehetőséget adjon hazai és külföldi kutatóknak kutatási eredményeik bemutatására a mondatszerkezet eseménytartományában megfigyelhető maximalizációs stratégiák nyelvek közötti vizsgálatával kapcsolatban. A konferencia témájának jelentőségét mutatja, hogy az utóbbi években a legjelentősebb folyóiratokban jelentek meg a maximalizációs stratégiákról tanulmányok az angol, magyar és a szláv nyelvekkel kapcsolatban. Ezzel együtt fontos megemlíteni, hogy a maximalizációs operáció alaposabb, nyelvek közötti vizsgálata annak szemantikáját és szintaktikai reprezentációját illetően még várat magára. Konferenciánkra a téma legelismertebb kutatóit hívtuk meg; kilenc meghívott előadó tart előadást olyan egyetemekről, mint a Stanford University és a Queen Mary University of London. A program a meghívott előadóink előadásaiból és a legjelentősebb nemzetközi nyelvészeti platformon (the Linguist List) és a hazai nyelvészeti levelezőlistán (Nyelvész Info) meghirdetett felhívásra érkező absztraktok alapján szakmai bírálat eredményeként kiválogatott angol nyelvű előadásokból és poszterekből fog állni. A világ számos országából várunk kutatókat, és az is fontos célunk, hogy a hazai nyelvészeket is bátorítsuk kutatási eredményeik bemutatására. Külön figyelmet fordítunk a hallgatók mentorálására az eseményen. A konferencia előadásaiból készült legjobb publikációkat szeretnénk megjelentetni egy rangos kiadó kötetében vagy egy Q1-es folyóirat tematikus számában. A konferencia lehetővé teszi, hogy a hazai és külföldi nyelvészek új elméleti és empirikus eredményeket közöljenek és a hazai nyelvészek ezáltal jobban bekapcsolódjanak a nemzetközi kutatásokba.
A projekt összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára Adjon egy rövid, közérthető ismertetést a szervezés alatt álló nemzetközi rendezvényről és annak várható eredményeiről, utalva a rendezvényhez kapcsolódó nyílt előadásra is. A projekt célja egy nemzetközi nyelvészeti konferencia szervezése. A konferencia témája a különböző nyelvek mondatszerkezetének igei tartományában megfigyelhető maximalizációs stratégiák jelentéstanának és mondattanának a vizsgálata; célunk, hogy jobban megértsük, hogy az anyanyelvi beszélők milyen univerzális és nyelvspecifikus szabályok alkalmazása mellett fejeznek ki végpontos/maximális eseményeket. A téma tudományos jelentőségét mutatja, hogy az utóbbi években számos jelentős folyóiratban jelentek meg az angol, magyar és szláv nyelvekre jellemző maximalizációs stratégiákról tudományos közlemények. Konferenciánkra a tématerület legismertebb kutatóit hívtuk meg; kilenc meghívott előadó tart előadást olyan nagy presztízsű egyetemekről, mint a Stanford University (USA) és a Queen Mary University of London (Egyesült Királyság). A program a meghívott előadóink előadásaiból és a legjelentősebb nemzetközi nyelvészeti platformon és egy hazai nyelvészeti levelezőlistán meghirdetett felhívásra érkező tudományos összefoglalók alapján szakmai bírálat eredményeként kiválogatott angol nyelvű előadásokból és tudományos poszterekből fog állni. A világ számos országából várunk előadókat, és az is fontos célunk, hogy a hazai nyelvészeket is bátorítsuk kutatási eredményeik bemutatására. Summary
Presentation of the international scientific or innovation event supported in the project: Present the type, purpose, agenda, target audience of the international event organized and its sigificance in the international and domestic scientific community. Refer to the public lecture to be organised in connection with the event. The main objective of our conference is to give scholars from Hungary and abroad the opportunity to present their research results on the maximalization strategies observable in the event domain of the sentence. That this topic has been of great significance in linguistics is reflected by the fact that in recent years several articles have been published about maximalization in English, Hungarian and Slavic languages in major journals. However, a more in-depth examination of the semantics and syntax of maximalization strategies in the verbal domain is yet to be carried out with respect to typologically different languages. Our conference will feature nine international invited speakers (all renowned specialists on aspects of the conference theme) from universities such as Stanford University and Queen Mary University of London. The program will contain talks by these speakers and a selection of oral and poster presentations solicited via an open call for papers on the Linguist List (the largest online platform for conference calls in linguistics) and Nyelvész Info. We expect participants from several countries in the world and it will also be important for us to encourage the linguists in Hungary to present their research at our event. We will also pay special attention to mentoring students at the conference. We aim to put together a collection of papers reporting on the results of the conference in the form of an edited volume or as a special issue of a Q1 journal. Our conference will allow local and international scholars to make genuine theoretical and empirical progress, which will help scholars in Hungary to more actively engage in international research projects.

We wish to provide researchers with an opportunity to present their research results on the maximalization strategies observable in the verbal domain of the sentence. More specifically, we wish to better understand what universal and language specific rules native speakers apply when expressing bounded/maximal events. That this topic has been of great significance in linguistics is reflected by the fact that in recent years several articles have been published about maximalization in English, Hungarian and Slavic languages in major international journals. Our conference will feature nine invited speakers (all renowned specialists on aspects of the conference theme) from universities such as Stanford University (USA) and Queen Mary University of London (UK). The program will contain talks by these speakers and a selection of oral and poster presentations solicited via an open call for papers posted on an international platform for conference calls in linguistics and a Hungarian mailing list. We expect participants from several different countries and we will also encourage the linguists in Hungary to present their research at our event. We will also pay special attention to mentoring students at the conference. We aim to put together a collection of papers reporting on the results of the conference in the form of an edited volume or as a special issue of a major international journal. Our event will allow local and international scholars to make genuine progress in their research and thus help scholars in Hungary to more actively engage in international research projects.

A Tudományos Mecenatúra Program MEC_SZ_140880 projektjének az International Workshop on Maximalization Strategies in the Event Domain című műhelykonferenciája 2023. április 17. és 19. között került megrendezésre a Debreceni Egyetem Főépületében. Az előadók és az esemény egyéb résztvevői 12 országból érkeztek, amelyek a következők voltak: Németország, Románia, Amerikai Egyesült Államok, Szingapúr, Magyarország, Egyesült Királyság, Franciaország, Kanada, Izrael, Norvégia, Japán, és Spanyolország. Magyarországon belül a Debreceni Egyetem, a Pécsi Tudományegyetem, az Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetem és az ELKH Nyelvtudományi Kutatóközpont kutatói és hallgatói vettek részt az eseményen.
Egy bevezető előadás, a pályázati vállalásunknak megfelelően kilenc meghívott és hét, a konferenciafelhívásra beérkezett absztraktok alapján kiválogatott előadás hangzott el a háromnapos tanácskozáson. Az előadások jelentős része alkalmas arra, hogy nemzetközileg is jelentős fórumokon publikálják őket.
Fontos eredménye még az eseménynek, hogy a helyi és külföldi kutatók mellett a Debreceni Egyetem BA és MA, illetve magyar és külföldi PhD hallgatók is részt vettek a konferencián; többen szakmai beszélgetést tudtak folytatni több meghívott előadóval, a terveinknek megfelelően.

Results in English
The International Workshop on Maximalization Strategies in the Event Domain was held at the University of Debrecen on April 17-19, 2023. The workshop participants came from the following countries: Germany, Romania, the Unites States, Singapore, Hungary, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Israel, Norway, Japan, and Spain. As for the participants from Hungary, both researchers and students attended the event from the University of Debrecen, the University of Pécs, Eötvös Loránd University and the Hungarian Research Center for Linguistics (ELKH).
In addition to an introduction to the theme of the workshop given by the PI and in line with the grant proposal, there were nine invited talks and seven selected talks in the program. The selected talks were solicited by an open call sent to two mailing lists in 2022. Several speakers presented original research strong enough to be published in major international journals.
An important result of the event is that several BA, MA and PhD students from the University of Debrecen attended the talks and interacted with the other attendees (both local and international) before and after the talks.
