Galambfajtáink közül többet is nemzeti kinccsé nyilvánítottak egyediségük és kifinomultságuk miatt, mivel a magyarság ízlésvilágát, szépérzékét és teljesítményét hirdetik világszerte. A hagyomány szerint az Alföldön kialakult nagytestű galambfajtáink a törököktől származnak. Ez azonban több okból is megkérdőjelezhető. A projekt keretében szerzőtársaimmal több tudományterület módszertanát alkalmazva, minden eddiginél részletesebben tártuk fel a fajtacsoport a történetét, melynek eredményeképpen az eddig széles körben ismertnél jóval korábbra sikerült visszavezetni a Kárpát-medence galambtenyésztésnek gyökereit. Egzakt adatok alapján feldolgoztuk az említett fajták tenyésztéstörténetét, illetve a kutatócsoportunk által elsőként elvégzett molekuláris genetikai vizsgálatok által feltárult a fajták genetikai sokfélesége és filogenetikai kapcsolatai is. Az olvasók megismerhetik a házi galambok legmeghatározóbb külső jegyeinek molekuláris genetikai hátterét és öröklődési mintázatait is, ami eddig nem volt elérhető magyar nyelven. A tudományos eredmények közérthető, ismeretterjesztő stílusú bemutatásán túl, az olvasók megismerkedhetnek a galambtenyésztés közösségteremtő és identitás megőrző szerepével, elsősorban a török galambtenyésztési kultúra példáján keresztül, ami szintén új elem a hazai irodalomban. Összességében bebizonyítottuk, hogy ezek a galambfajtáink bennszülöttnek tekinthetőek és nem török eredetűek. Ez jelentős hozzájárulás a magyar agrártörténethez is.

Several of our pigeon breeds have been declared national treasures for their uniqueness and elegance, as they promote Hungarian taste, beauty and performance worldwide. Tradition has it that our large-bodied pigeon breeds, which originated in the Great Plain, are descended from the Turks. However, this is questionable for several reasons. In this project, we have used several disciplines to explore the history of this breed group in greater detail than ever before, and as a result we have been able to trace the roots of pigeon breeding in the Carpathian Basin back much further than is widely known. Based on exact data, we have processed the breeding history of these group, and by molecular genetic studies have revealed the genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships of them. Readers will also learn about the molecular genetic background and inheritance patterns of the most important external characteristics of domestic pigeons, which has not been available in Hungarian until now. The presentation of scientific results in an accessible, informative style, readers will learn about the role of pigeon breeding in community building and identity preservation, especially through the example of Turkish pigeon breeding culture, which is also a new element in the Hungarian literature. Overall, we have demonstrated that these pigeon breeds can be considered indigenous and not of Turkish origin. This is also a significant contribution to Hungarian agricultural history.
