A kutatás főirányát két témakör művelése adta. Az egyik m.o.-i kertművészet eredményeinek a külfölddel való megismertetése és ilyen irányú kutatások segítése és indikálása volt, a másik egyes kerteknek a m.o.-i kertművészet történetében oly ritka önálló feldolgozása. A programot 2003-ban Bp.-en fiatal kutatókkal egy nemzetközi konferenciával indítottuk, ebből nőtt ki a program végén Alföldy Gábor monografikus igényű feldolgozása a magyarországi historizmus kastélykertjeiről (Historical Revivalism in Hungarian Country House Gardens, megj.alatt AHA 2007) és Ecsedy Anna zárótanulmánya is a 18. és 19. sz.-i közép-európai kertek szoborhasználatáról. (Zur Wanderungsgeschichte einer zerfallenen Barockstatuen-Serie in Ungarn. megj. AHA 2006). A program egyik legjelentősebb eredménye, hogy a m.o.-i kerttörténeti kutatások (s általuk az OTKA) eredményei Alföldy Gábor munkájaként megjelentek az egyetemes kerttörténeti kutatások legrangosabb összefoglaló kötetében (''The Oxford Companion to the Garden'', Oxford, 2006) és a művészettörténeti világlexikon (''Saur Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon'', Leipzig) legújabb köteteiben (Ecsedy A., Alföldy G.). A témavezető, túl a projekt irányításán, határontúli elfeledett régi m.o.-i kertek (Kismarton, Lakompak, Rovnye) feldolgozását végezte el külföldi közlésre (is). A program digitális kert-felvétei és számítógépes térképes adatbázisai az MTA Műv.tört.Int. fotótárába kerültek.
