Kalorimetriával felállítottuk az intakt keresztszalagok normál termodinamikai standardjait. Arthrosisos térdekből nyert mintákon megállapítottuk a degeneráció okozta eltéréseket, az intakt és arthroticus szalagok között definitív különbségeket mutattunk ki mindkét cruciatum vonatkozásában. A hátsó szalag nagyobb termális stabilitást mutatott, egészséges valamint arthroticus térdek esetén is.
Hátsó keresztszalag feláldozó protézis beültetésen átesett betegek klinikai vizsgálatával és a szalagok szövettani elemzésével megállapítottuk, hogy magasabb életkor, valgus tengely és műtét előtti flexiós kontraktúra esetén a hátsó szalag makroszkópos és mikroszkópos károsodása - statisztikailag szignifikáns mértékben - gyakrabban fordul elő.
Hátsó keresztszalag megtartó protéziseknél felmértük a frontális és sagittalis deformitások hatását a funkcionális eredményekre. A jelentős frontális deformitásokkal járó eseteknél, nem tapasztaltunk rosszabb eredményeket, mint a kevésbé deformált térdeknél. A nagymértékű flexiós kontraktúra azonban a funkcionális eredményeket is negatív irányba befolyásolta.
Konklúzióként elmondható, hogy hátsó keresztszalag megtartó implantátumokkal az esetek nagy részénél biztosítható jó eredmény. A klinikai és kalorimetriás vizsgálatok eredményeit is figyelembe véve azonban kijelenthető, hogy frontális és sagittalis síkú deformitás egyidejű fennállása esetén jó hosszú távú eredmény leginkább hátsó keresztszalag feláldozó implantátummal biztosítható.

Calorimetric standards of intact human cruciate ligaments have been established. Alterations caused by the degenerative process have been detected on samples removed from arthritic knees, definitive differences could be demonstrated between arthritic and intact samples in terms of both cruciates. The posterior one showed better thermal stability in intact and arthritic specimens either.
With clinical observation of patients who underwent cruciate sacrificing total knee replacement and histological examination of removed ligaments we found that higher age, valgus deformity and flexion contracture are statistically significantly more often leading to degeneration of the posterior ligament.
In case of posterior cruciate retaining prostheses we examined the effect of frontal and sagittal deformities on the functional results. With frontal deformities we did not observe worse results compared to the cases with less deformity. In opposite, significant flexion contracture influenced the results in a negative way.
As a conclusion we can state, that in most cases good results can be achieved with the conventional, cruciate retaining implants. Taking both the clinical and calorimetric observations into consideration we can state that in case of simultaneous presence of frontal and sagittal deformities satisfying long term results can better be provided with the posterior cruciate sacrificing implant.
