A pályázati összeg igénybevételének eredeti célja az volt, hogy az évekkel korábban elkészült doktori disszertációt (Gepida telepek az Alföldön) új kutatásokkal kiegészítve a kiadásig juttasson el. Már az első pályázati év pénzügyi elvonásai után világossá vált, hogy a kötet kiadását nem lehet pusztán csak ebből a pályázati pénzből fedezni, hanem szükségessé válik más források bevonása is. Így a feladat az OTKA hozzájárulásával módosult: a könyv teljes kiadása helyett a nyomdai költségek közül csak a nyomdai előkészítést, papírvásárlást stb. fedezte. Az új kutatások során a már korábban feldolgozott alföldi gepida telepek sora egy továbbival (Szentes-Belsőecser) egészült ki, a már közölt lelőlelyekből kataszter készült. A beható szakirodalmi kutatások után lehetővé vált a leletanyag új elemzése és összefoglalása is. A kézirat elkészültével párhuzamosan haladt az új leletanyag, a térképek stb. rajzoltatása, a fotóztatás és a már korábban készült illusztrációs anyag és táblázatok digitalizálása is. A kéziratot német nyelvre fordították, itt a tervezett kiadásokat a már korábban lefordított részletek átdolgozásával sikerült csökkenteni. A munka eredményeképpen a kézirat már (két korrektúrát követően) kiadás alatt van, a Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum kiadásában, a „Monumenta Germanorum Archaeologica Hungariae” sorozat köteteként, „Gepidische Siedlungen im Theissgebiet” címmel 2007 tavaszán jelenik meg.

My reason for applying for the grant was to revise and update my doctoral dissertation (“Gepidic settlements in the Great Hungarian Plain”), finished some years ago, with recent research results and make it suitable for publication. The financial restriction in the first year made it painfully clear that this grant would not be sufficient for covering the costs of the publication and that other grants would also be needed. Approved by OTKA, the grant would cover the preparation of the manuscript, the purchase of paper, etc., instead of covering the full publication costs. The findings of the new investigations at Szentes-Belsőecser were incorporated into the discussion of the other Gepidic settlements and a detailed gazetteer was compiled of the already published sites. A new interpretation and overview of the known finds was aided by the detailed study of the relevant archaeological and scholarly literature. Parallel to the preparation of the manuscript for publication, the drawing of the new finds, maps, etc. was also completed, together with the photographing of the finds and the digitisation of the earlier illustrations. The manuscript was translated into German. The manuscript is now in print (after two proofings) and is scheduled to appear in Spring, 2007, as the next volume of the Monumenta Germanorum Archaeologica Hungariae series published by the Hungarian National Museum under the title “Gepidische Siedlungen im Theissgebiet”.
