2000 áprilisában indult a harmadik kiadása s egyben a harmadik változata a magyar történeti bibliográfia (Kosáry Domokos, Bevezetés Magyarország történetének forrásaiba és irodalmába) nemzetközileg is elismert vállalkozásának, amelynek célja, hogy útmutatót adjon történelmünk első ismert évezredének tanulmányozásához, a kezdetektől a feudális kor végső szakaszáig (1848-ig). A magyar történettudomány jelenleg nem rendelkezik a legújabb irodalmat is tartalmazó retrospektív és annotált bibliográfiával. Ezt a hiányt igyekszik betölteni e vállalkozás. A tervezett kötet ezúttal a kiadatlan, kéziratos, levéltári forrásanyagra koncentrál (I/4. Városi, mezővárosi, községi levéltárak és forrásközlések), és alapos, kiterjedt tájékoztatást nyújt a nyomtatott (önálló kötetek és folyóiratcikkek) szakirodalom bemutatása mellett a magyar történelem levéltárakban és múzeumokban őrzött kéziratos forrásairól. A kötet elkészítéséhez szükséges a korábbi kiadás adatainak ellenőrzése és aktualizálása, az elmúlt negyven év levéltári és könyvtári anyagának, szakirodalmának összegyűjtése, a változások jelzése. A városi levéltárakat és a múzeumi kéziratos iratanyagot bemutató kötet újabb kiadása elengedhetetlen segédeszközt jelent az akadémiai kutatás mellett az egyetemi oktatásban, valamint minden egyes hazai és külföldi érdeklődő számára.
Summary
The third edition and also the third version of the annotated Hungarian historical bibliography (Bevezetés a magyar történelem forrásaiba és irodalmába), a project of international renoun, began in April 2000. Its aim is to provide an up-to-date reference book to the study of Hungarian history from the beginnings to the end of the feudal era in 1848 since this is currently lacking. During the period of the grant the bibliography research group will concentrate on the unpublished manuscripts and archival sources of city, town and village archives (I/4. Városi, mezővárosi, községi levéltárak és forrásközlések) and also include information on the relevant manuscripts in the collections of museums. However, the new volume will not only provide a comprehensive list of the manuscript sources of the localities of historical Hungary but also contain the secondary literature and a broad selection of source publications. The bibliography research group needs financial support in order to double check the data of the second edition, indicate the changes that had taken place since the publication of the second edition and gather the new archival material and secondary literature of the last forty years. This new volume will be a basic reference work of historical research and also that of university eduction, however, it will also be a useful first port of call for anyone, in Hungary or abroad, who is interested in Hungarian history.

A Bevezetés Magyarország történetének forrásaiba és irodalmába c. levéltári útmutató és annotált bibliográfia új kiadásának 4. kötete a történeti Magyarország (jelenleg részint Ausztria, Szlovákia, Ukrajna, Románia Szerbia) és a Horvátország területén található városi, mezővárosi és községi levéltárakat, illetve a magyarországi múzeumok kézirattári és gyűjteményi anyagait mutatja be az írásbeliség kezdeteitől 1848-ig. A projekt eredményeként elkészült kéziratban (1804 oldal) a szomszédos országok területéről 498, Magyarország területéről 535 település szerepel. A bevezető tanulmányok bemutatják a városi és mezővárosi levéltárak kialakulását, a jelenlegi önkormányzati levéltárak történetét és helyzetét. A levéltári és kézirattári anyag tartalmi és terjedelmi leírása mellett a kézirat alapos és kiterjedt, döntő részében értékelő tájékoztatást ad a települések történetére vonatkozóan 2011-ig megjelent magyar és idegen nyelvű szakirodalomról, az önálló kiadványokról, évkönyv- és folyóiratcikkekről egyaránt. A munka során megtörtént a bibliográfia korábbi kiadásaiban közölt adatok ellenőrzése és pontosítása. A múzeumokban őrzött dokumentumok bemutatása, figyelemmel az intézmények kiállítás orientált egyedi nyilvántartási rendszerére az általános leírás mellett a kiemelt fontosságú családi, személyi, uradalmi és céhes iratok bemutatására koncentrált.

The fourth volume of the new, up-dated edition of the historical handbook and annotated bibliography, the Introduction to the primary sources and secondary literature on the history of Hungary surveys the city, town and village archives of historical Hungary (covering besides Hungary parts of present day Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania and Serbia) and Croatia as well as the manuscript and archival collections of Hungarian museums. The chronological scope of the volume is from the beginnings until 1848. As the result of the project, the manuscript of the volume (altogether 1804 pages) contains data on 498 settlements in neighbouring countries and on 535 settlements in present day Hungary. The introduction provides an overview of the historical development of the archival collections of cities and towns as well as that of the current municipal archives. For each and every settlement the volume comprises a detailed description of the primary sources with an indication of the size of the source material. It also supplies a mostly annotated bibliographical survey of the secondary literature on the settlements up to 2011. The presentation of archival materials of the museums was made difficult by the specialised, exhibition orientated approach of the museum cataloguing systems. Nonetheless, besides a general outline of the primary sources of museums, there is special emphasis on the archival materials in museums of families, individuals, estates.
