A könyv több tudomány eredményeit próbálja meg összekapcsolni annak érdekében, hogy magyarázatot találjon az emberi önzetlenség kialakulására és természetére vonatkozóan. Helyet kapnak benne a legutóbbi és a jelenlegi OTKA kutatásaink eredményei és az azokból eredő általános következtetések. Ezen kívül összefoglalom és egy sajátos nézőpont (elméleti modell) alapján tárgyalom a legfontosabb nemzetközi tudományos eredményeket és magyarázatokat. Elsősorban az utolsói tíz év tapasztalataiból merítek, hiszen az utóbbi időszak kutatásai rendkívül újszerű, izgalmas, helyenként váratlan eredményeket hoztak. Megpróbálom ezeket a laikus számára is érthetően megfogalmazni, miközben természetesen törekszem a tárgyi hűségre és a szakmai színvonal következetes fenntartására. A könyv alapvetően egy multidiszciplináris, munka (ahogyan saját kísérleteink is „határterületi” jellegűek), ahol igyekszem egységes keretbe illeszteni a különböző tudományágak sokszor elszigetelt teljesítményeit és nézőpontjait. Fontos szerepet kapnak a könyvben a következő tudományágak: evolúciós pszichológia, humánetológia, szociálpszichológia, kognitív pszichológia, kísérleti játékelmélet, kognitív idegtudományok, antropológia. Ezek integrálása nyomán remélhetőleg közelebb jutunk annak a megértéséhez, hogy mik az emberi önzetlenség indítékai, feltételei és korlátai, és ezek milyen hatást gyakorolnak társas kapcsolatainkra.
Summary
The present manuscript makes an attempt to integrate the findings of several scientific areas in order to explain the nature and evolution of human altruism. It contains empirical results obtained in the framework of my recent and past OTKA, and the theoretical considerations coming from these results. In addition, I show the most important international scientific results from a specific point of view. The content mainly comes from the scientific experiences of the last decade because the studies in this period have brought about new, exciting, even unexpected results. I try to present them in an understandable style for common readers, but also strive for maintaining a high level of scientific explanations. This book basically represents a multidisciplinary approach, where I make an attempt to integrate findings and notions of various scientific branches into a unified theoretical framework. Results of evolutionary psychology, human ethology, social psychology, cognitive psychology, experimental game theory, cognitive neurosciences, anthropology are processed in the book. By integrating them we hopefully gain a deeper insight in understanding what the basic motives of altruism are, and what effects they have on our social relationships.
