A "Natus est infra Pannoniam: Eine lateinische Legende des heiligen Demetrius aus dem mittelalterlichen Ungarn" címen tervezett német nyelvű cikk egy 3. századi vértanú, Szent Demeter szenvedéstörténetének egy eddig szinte ismeretlen, latin nyelvű változata 10 kézirat alapján készült kritikai kiadását, és annak történeti és filológiai jellegű elemzését tartalmazza. A latin nyelvű legendaszöveg azért különleges, mert a vértanút említő több száz görög, latin és más keleti nyelvű forrással ellentétben, mely a görögországi Thesszaloniki város vértanújaként említi Demetert, a latin legenda a szentet a pannóniai Sirmium (akkoriban Szávaszentdemeter) város szülöttjének nevezi, s mint "magyar szentet" dicsőíti. Ez a látszólag jelentéktelennek tűnő adat adja a legendaszöveg különlegességét. A korábbi évszázadok történeti és bizantinológiai kutatásai ugyanis arra hívták fel a figyelmet, hogy különböző történeti és régészeti érvek alapján, egyáltalán nem valószínű, hogy a szent tisztelete Thesszalonikiből eredne, sokkal valószínűbb, hogy valahonnan Pannóniából, feltehetőleg épp Sirmiumból származik. Ezt a hipotézist már csaknem száz éve ismételgeti a kutatás, ám szöveges forrással mindeddig nem sikerült bizonyítania. Az előkerült középkori latin legenda viszont éppen ezt írja a szentről. Ezért nemzetközi szempontból is igen jelentős, sokat keresett forrásról van szó, mely feltehetőleg magára vonja majd a történész, régész és bizantinológus szakma figyelmét. Ráadásul a passió azon ritka szövegek közé tartozik, amelyekről egyértelműen bizonyítható, hogy a középkori Magyarország területén keletkeztek. A legenda esetében még az is szinte bizonyosan állítható, hogy valamikor a 12-13. század fordulóján íródhatott, minden bizonnyal egy görög nyelvű eredeti szöveg alapján, mégpedig határozott politikai és ideológiai céllal, amely jól illik a korabeli Magyarország más forrásokból is ismert Balkán politikájába. A cikkben a legenda latin szövegének első megbízható szövegkiadása mellett ezekre a problémák előkerülnek. A szöveget részletesen összevetem más, Európában ismert latin legendákkal, és számos görög nyelvű bizánci szöveggel is, s részletes nyelvi és stilisztikai elemzés után megpróbálom beilleszteni azt Közép-Európa 12. századi szellemi és politikai kontextusába is.
Summary
The planned German article contains the first critical edition of a particular legend of the 3rd century Thessalonican martyr St Demetriu which was written in Latin and stems from medieval Hungary. The nost interesting feature of this text is that it contains some special details about the origin of the martyr and states tha he was of Panonian origin and was born in the city of Sirmium. this fact is very curiousin the light of recent research concerning the origin of the martyr's cult. Beause the cause of the veneration of Demetrius in Hungary is that according to local traditions he was born in the Pannonian Sirmium. This tradition however suprisingly agrees with the most recent theory of historians and archeologists, who argued that the martyr of Thessalonica originally was a deacon-martyr of Sirmium mentioned in the most ancient martyrologies whose cult due to political reasons was transferred to Thessalonica. This hypothesis however could not be supported by any textual evidence so it remained very questionable. The medieval Hungarian legend of the saint written in Latin, however sheds a new light to this hypothesis and gives explanation to the national cult of the martyr in Hungary. The article would present a critical examination of the date and origin of this particular legend of St Demetrius in the light of other European and Byzantine texts and puts the text into the wider context of the 12-13th century Hungarian Balkan-policy.

A tervezett német nyelvű cikk Die sirmische Legende des heiligen Demetrius von Thessalonike: Eine lateinische Passionsfassung aus dem mittelalterlichen Ungarn címmel májusra teljesen elkészült, a lektorálásról szóló számlát azóta az egyetem el is számolta. A szöveget még májusban elküldtem az Analecta Bollandiana szerkesztőségének, ahol a szokásos lektorálási (peer-reviewing) procedúra után végül június 4-én úgy döntöttek leközlik a cikket, s az az Analecta Bollandiana vol. 128 no.. 2. (2010) számában fog megjelenni. Az erről szóló hivatalos értesítést mellékelem a beszámolóhoz az elkészített cikk végén.

The planned German article was completed in May with the title Die sirmische Legende des heiligen Demetrius von Thessalonike: Eine lateinische Passionsfassung aus dem mittelalterlichen Ungarn. Afterwards the article was submitted to the editorial board of the Analecta Bollandiana as early as in May. Since then it has succesfully gone through the usual peer-reviewing procedure and the committee has decided that - after some minor modifications have been made - it will be accepted for publication and will appear in the vol 128/2 (2010) of the Analecta Bollandiana. The letter of approval sent by the committee is attached to the present document.
