A kutatás két intellektuális érdeklődést kapcsol össze. Az új anyagi kultúra kutatás és az új muzeológia egymáshoz való közelítésével meg kívánja alapozni a jelenkori mindennapi élet kutatását a globális társadalom és kultúra kontextusában. A kísérlet fontossága abban áll, hogy a múzeumok gyarapításával, gyűjteményeivel kapcsolatos kutatások, valamint a bemutatás formái és politikuma az eddiginél komolyabb és szélesebb körű elméleti reflexiót igényelnek, miközben a múzeumok iránti újra nagy érdeklődést mutató humán tudományok friss ösztönzést nyerhetnek a mai társadalmi kérdések iránt nyitott múzeumok tevékenységéből. A kutatás eredményeként egy monográfia készül, amely esettanulmányok és elméleti kérdések alapján elemzi a jelenkor muzealizációjának európai keretek között zajló fő irányait, lehetőségeit és elméleti problémáit. Az etnográfiai megközelítés egyszerre jelöli a diszciplínát (európai etnológia, kulturális antropológia) és tágabban az empirikus kulturális elemzés alapállását.
Summary
The project aims to connect two recent trends of intellectual activities. It relates the new material culture studies and the new museology for making a solid foundation to approach the contemporary everyday life in the context of global society and culture. The relevance of this effort comes from the fact that questions on contemporary collecting-based and collection-based research in museums and forms and politics of representation need more and wider theoretical reflections while museums with regard to contemporary issues can provide fresh insights the humanities that clearly have new concerns of museums. The project results in a monograph. Based on case-studies and theoretical analyses it will summarize the main questions, the most important aspects and the feasibility of musealization of the present in a European context. The ethnographic approach refers to the discipline (cultural anthropology, European ethnology) as well as the broader stance of empirically oriented cultural analysis.

A kutatás célja egy monográfia megírása, ami egyfelől összegzi a szerző eddigi múzeumi, múzeumelméleti munkáit, másfelől áttekinti és kritikailag kidolgozza a jelenkor muzealizációja kapcsán megkerülhetetlen múzeumelméleti kérdéseket, ugyanakkor összhangban áll a múzeumok olyan alapvető feladataival is mint a gyűjteményfejlesztés és a gyűjtemények feldolgozása, értelmezése. A szintetizáló jellegű monográfia egyben a kortárs (etnográfiai) muzeológia számára programot is alkot. Célja továbbá, hogy a múzeumi tevékenységet s gyakorlati problémák analízisét megpróbálja összhangba hozni az akadémiai kutatások aktuális irányaival a néprajz, kulturális antropológia és az új anyagi kultúra kutatása terén. A kézirat várhatóan 2012. szeptember 31-ig készül el.

The project’s aim to complete a monograph which synthesizes the author’s previous works in museum studies as well as it overviews and develops in a critical way the main theoretical issues of musealisation of the present while it is well in accordance with such basic museum duties as collection development and analysis and public interpretation of collections. By its aim of being a synthesis, the monograph will also provide a programme for contemporary (ethnographic) museums. Its further aim is to link museum activities, as well as analysis of their practical difficulties, to recent trends of academic research in ethnography, cultural anthropology or contemporary material culture studies. The manuscript is due to be finalised by the end of September 2012.
