A jelen forrásgyűjtemény a francia nyelven publikált Documents diplomatiques francaise sur l’histoire du Bassin des Carpates 1918-1932 című sorozat utolsó. A kiadvány szerves folytatása az OTKA támogatásával korábban megjelent I.,II.,III., IV., kötetének. A kiadványok az Akadémiai Kiadónál jelentek meg. Az I. 1993-ban, a II. 1995-ben; a III. 1999-ben; a IV. 2002-ben. A most elkészült V. kötet a Kárpát-medence 1927-1932-közötti történetére vonatkozó dokumentumokat kívánja közzétenni. A kötetben megtalálhatók a kormányfők, külügyminiszterek, nagykövetek, követek titkos utasításai, eligazításai, beszámolói, nemzetközi tanácskozások jegyzőkönyvei, melyek alapján rekonstruálható az a folyamat, melyek a térségben a gazdasági válság idején lezajlott. Az iratok meggyőzően bizonyítják, hogy a húszas évek végén és a harmincas évek elején a kialakult katasztrofális helyzetért az utódállamok mellett, eltérő mértékben ugyan, de valamennyi nagyhatalom politikája is felelős. A dokumentumok sokaságából az olvasó képet kap azokról pusztításokról, amelyeket a világgazdasági válság a beteg Közép-Európában végzett, és azokról az akadályokról, melyek nehezítették a válságból való kilábalást, s ami továbbsodorta a térséget a katasztrófa felé. A térség fejlődését eddig is gúzsba kötő nacionalista politika a válság évei alatt felerősödött, akárcsak a protekcionista törekvések, amelyeket ekkor már a szövetségesek egymás rovására is alkalmaztak. Például a vesztes Magyarországgal szemben - ahogy ez a dokumentumokból kiderül - a gazdasági válságot is arra igyekeztek felhasználni, hogy fokozzák a belpolitikai instabilitást, az országban uralkodó káoszt. A kötet iratanyaga bemutatja a térségben lévő kis államok nagyhatalmaktól való függőségének mérhetetlen nagyságát. Az egymással vetélkedő nagyhatalmak a válság évei alatt igazából nem voltak képesek segíteni a kis államok helyzetén. Mindegyik a saját érdekeinek védelmével volt elfoglalva, protekcionista gazdaságpolitikájukat, kiterjesztették szövetségeseikre is. Summary
The current source book is the last volume of the series entitled Documents diplomatiques francaise sur l’histoire du Bassin des Carpates 1918-1932 published in French. The publication is the next part of the previously published four volumes subsidised by OTKA (Hungarian Scientific Research Fund). The series was published by Akadémiai Kiadó. Vo. I. in 1993, Vo II. in 1995, Vo III. in 1999 and Vo. IV. in 2002. The recently finished 5th volume introduces documents relating to the history of the Carpathian Basin between 1927-1932. The volume contains secret commands, briefings, reports of prime ministers, foreign ministers, ambassadors, agents as well as minutes of international conferences based on which we can reconstruct the proceedings taken place during the economic crisis in the region. The manifold documents give a picture of the destructions caused by the global economic crisis in the ailing Central Europe and of those obstacles which made the recovery more difficult and pushed the region towards catastrophe. The nationalist politics, which already hindered the development of the region, intensified during the years of the crisis as well as the protectionist ambitions, which was used by then also at each other’s expense. For example, against the defeated Hungary – as it turns out from the documents – they tried to use the crisis to deepen the instability of the domestic affairs and the chaos ruling the country. The documents of this volume show the great dependency of the small states on the great powers. During the years of the crisis the great powers were unable to help the condition of the small states. All of them were busy with the protection of their own interests, their protectionist economic policy, which was applied to their allies as well. Although they emphasised that Germany should not profit from the week economic condition of the smaller countries this is exactly what they supported with each step.

The documents provide a definite proof of the fact that not only the successor states but also all the policies applied by the great powers are responsible, however to a different extent, for the appalling situation during the 1920s and 1930s.
