A pályázat célja, hogy feltárja a jezsuita tudós Katona István (1732–1811) munkássága két legfontosabb területét – historiográfia, historia litteraria –, kéziratban maradt és nyomtatásban megjelent műveinek feldolgozására alapozva. Katona történetírói életműve nagyrészt kiadott, közte a magyar történelmet feldolgozó 42 kötetes Historia Critica. A hazai történetírás e kiemelkedő és nagy hatású, ám időközben feledésbe ment műveinek feldolgozásával és elemzésével szeretnénk rámutatni a 18. században kialakult kritikai történettudományunk módszereire, továbbélésére, nemzetközi hátterére. Tervezzük Katona nehezen hozzáférhető történeti műveinek elektronikus hasonmás kiadását. A 18. századi magyar irodalomtörténet-írás jelentős forrásai Katona 2007-ben Rozsnyón előkerült kéziratos írói lexikonjai, valamint az ezzel kapcsolatos levelezés a kor tudósaitól. Cél e kéziratos anyag közreadása, Katona levelezésének feltárása a különböző egyházi könyvtárakban és levéltárakban, továbbá elemző tanulmányok írása. A kéziratok meghatározó adalékul szolgálnak a 18. századi irodalomtudomány és kritika történetéhez. Kutatásunkat tanulmánykötetben kívánjuk összegezni 2011-re, Katona István halálának 200. évfordulójára, és az első eredményeket bemutatjuk a nemzetközi szakma képviselőinek a XIV Nemzetközi Neolatin Kongresszuson. A munka az újkori történelem, a historiográfia, az irodalom- és tudománytörténet kutatói számára egyaránt hasznosítható.
Summary
The aim of our research plan to reveal the lifework István Katona’s SJ (1732–1811), focusing on the two most important spheres – historiography and historia litteraria – of it. The object of researchment includes both the printed works and that ones, which remained in manuscripts. Katona’s historiographical works are mainly edited, including the Historia Critica, which contains 42 volumes. By revealing and analizing his excellent and impressive, but meanwhile forgotten works we want to point at the methods of the Hungarian critical historiography, which had been grown up in the 18th century, and the effects on the next generations; with taking care of the international backgound. We decided to edit in the form of digital facsimile his historical books, which are nowadays reachable only with difficulty. His handwritten remains – historia litteraria and his correspondence with the contemporary scholars –, which were found in Rozsnyó in 2007, are basicly important sources for searching the literary history of the 18th century. Our aim to edit these manuscripts, too, and to find the further parts of his correspondence, which are kept in different ecclesiastical libraries; finally to write analizing studies on it. His handwritten remains gave us a determinant data for the history and the criticism of the Hungarian literature in the 18th century. We decided to summarize our researchments in the volume of studies in 2011, on the 200th anniversary of Katona’s death. Our most important results we present on the International Congress for Neo-Latin Studies. The results of our work can be useful for the scholars of the modern history, historiography, the history of literature and science.
