A magyar népzene keleti elemei helyszíni gyűjtésekkel hitelesített kutatásának nagy hagyománya van Magyarországon. Ezt a kutatást folytatom magam is, immár 23 éve anatóliai, kaukázusi, kazak, kirgiz, azeri és észak-kaukázusi expedícióimmal és publikációimmal. A jelen kötet ennek a publikáció-sorozatnak a következő tagja. A karacsáj népzene megismerése igen érdekes számunkra, mert -igaz ezer évvel ezelőtt- a Kaukázus északi előterében formálódott hosszabb ideig a honfoglaló magyarság. Ugyanakkor a szinkron kutatás önmagában is fontos, különösen amikor egy nagy térség zenei áttekintésének egy soron következő lépéseként egy eddig el nem végzett feladattal foglakozik: tudományosan és összehasonlító módon ismerteti a karacsájok népzenéjét. A könyv a Kaukázusban történt korábbi magyar kutatások áttekintésével kezdődik , helyt kap benne a karacsájok rövid története valamint az expedícióimról való beszámoló is. Az igazi újdonság azonban a karacsáj dallamok elemzése, áttekintése, osztályozása és más török népzenékkel illetve a magyar népzenével való összehasonlítása, mely óvatos történeti következtetések levonására is lehetőséget ad. Szintén fontos a teljes 1200 dallamos gyűjtést jól reprezentáló 450 kottapélda, melyek közül a legjellemzőbb dalok a mellékelt CD-n is felhangzanak. A dalok szövegeit valamint azok angol és magyar fordítását is közöljük a kötetben, melyben bő fotó és térképanyag is található. A fentiek miatt a kötet nem csak az összehasonlító népzenekutatók és etnomuzikológusok számára lesz informatív, de történészek, turkológusok és nyelvészek is haszonnal forgathatják.
Summary
The research on the eastern element of the Hungarian folk music has a great history, let us mention only the names of Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály. I have been continuing this research for more then twenty years now, with my expeditions and publications on Anatolian, Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Azeri and Caucasian folk music. The present volume will be the next step of this publication series. To make acquaintance with the Karachay folk music is interesting for the Hungarians because for a longer period our ancestors lived in the Northern Caucasus area – true it had been 1000 years ago. Anyway synchronic research is important in itself, especially if it results a significant step to discover the folk music of a huge Turkic-speaking area from Kyrgyzstan to Anatolia. It is even more important if it fulfills a task that has not been done before: the scientific and comprehensive analysis of the Karachay folk music. The book begins with an overview of the earlier Hungarian research in the Caucasus Mountains, followed by the history of the Karachay people and an account on my expeditions. The real novelties are the musical analysis, the classification of the folk songs, and the comparison of the Karachay music with the music of other Turkic people and that of the Hungarian. Also important are the 450 musical transcriptions representing well the collected 1200 melodies. The most characteristic songs will be heard on the CD-attachment. The book contains the texts of the songs, their English and Hungarian translation and also ample photos and maps made by the authors. The publication will be useful not only for comparative musicologists and ethnomusicologists but also for historians, Turkologists and linguists.
