A lösz-paleotalaj rétegsorok az egyik legjelentősebb és legrészletesebb Negyedidőszaki emlékeink. A tervezett kutatás célja a Kárpát medencében lezajlott Középső és Késő Pleisztocén folyamatok időbeli elhelyezése a lumineszcens kormeghatározás segítségével, paleomágneses vizsgálatokkal kiegészítve. A lumineszcens kormeghatározás alkalmas a néhány évestől a néhány százezer éves üledékek datálására, így megfelelő az tervezett üledékek kormeghatározására. A legújabb lumineszcens módszereket (a földpátokból mért post-IR IRSL jel, illetve a kvarcon mért “thermally transferred” OSL /TT-OSL/ jel) szeretném alkalmazni a Gödöllői-dombság és a Dunántúli-dombság néhány löszfeltárásában (Mende, Hévízgyörk, Villánykövesd, Beremend). Ezen új módszerek alkalmazása nem jelent különösebb kockázatot a kutatás megvalósulását tekintve. A kutatás várható eredményei:
1. A kárpát medence Középső és Késő Pleisztocén geokronológiájának javítása, finomítása, mely alapvető fontosságú a későbbi paleoklíma és paleokörnyezet meghatározásához, illetve ezen területek felszínfejlődésének rekonstruálásához.
2. A löszök lumineszcens kormeghatározásának módszertani fejlesztése, különös tekintettel a felső korhatár kiterjesztésére, illetve a földpátok „fading” jelenségének korrekciójára.
3. A fent leírt új lumineszcens módszerek bevezetése a hazai lumineszcens kutatásokba.
Az eredményeket fudományos folyóiratokban publikáljuk, illetve hazai, valamint nemzetközi konferenciákon ismertetjük.

Loess-palaeosol sequences are one of the most significant and detailed terrestrial archives of the Quaternary. The aim of the project is to make a chronological framework for the Middle and Late Quaternary processes in the Carpathian Basin by the means of luminescence dating of loess deposits, completed by palaeomagnetic investigations. The age limits of the luminescence dating are between few years and few 100 000 years, therefore it is a suitable method for dating these loess deposits. New luminescence methods (post-IR IRSL signal of feldspar and thermally transferred OSL /TT-OSL/ signal of quartz) will be applied for loess sequences from the Gödöllő Hills (Mende, Hévízgyörk) and from the Transdanubian Hills (Villánykövesd, Beremend). The risk of the applicability of these new methods is negligible. The expected results of the project are:
1. Considerable improvement of Middle and Late Quaternary geochronology of the Carpathian Basin, which is a fundamental base to determine palaeoclimate and -environmental changes and reconstruct landscape evolution in these regions.
2. Methodology of luminescence dating of loess sediments can be improved due to the extension of the dating limits or further investigations and developments on fading correction of feldspar.
3. Phasing these new luminescence methods in the Hungarian luminescence research.
The results will be published in relevant scientific journals and will be presented in national and international scientific conferences.

Az ösztöndíj során a Középső és Késő Pleisztocén során a Kárpát medencében felhalmozódott löszösszleteket vizsgáltam. Elsődleges célom a kronológiájuk pontosítása, finomítása volt a legújabb lumineszcens módszerek segítségével. Kiegészítésként AAR vizsgálatokat is alkalmaztunk az idősebb – lumineszcens módszerrel már nem datálható – löszrétegek korbecslésére. Sikerült a basaharci, mendei, hévízgyörki, villánykövesdi, beremendi, dunaszekcsői, dunakömlődi, pásztói és a verőcei feltárások löszrétegeinek időbeli elhelyezése, amit több esetben paleomágneses és szemcseméret vizsgálatokkal is kiegészítettünk, melyek alapvető fontossággal bírnak a későbbi paleoklíma és paleokörnyezet meghatározásához, illetve ezen területek felszínfejlődésének rekonstruálásához.

During my funded period I investigated Middle and Late Pleistocene loess deposits in the Carpathian Basin. My main aim was to clarify and refine their chronology using the newest luminescence methods. AAR investigations were also applied on older loess layers - as a support beside luminescence dating. I successfully dated the loess profiles at Basaharc, Mende, Hévízgyörk, Villánykövesd, Beremend, Dunaszekcső, Dunakömlőd, Pásztó and Verőce, which sometimes were completed by paleomagnetic a grain-size measurements. These can be crucial for paleoclimate, and paleoenvironment reconstruction and for paleo-landscape evolution.
