Az 1990 és 2004 között feltárt Polgár-Csőszhalom Délkelet-Európa legészakabbi neolitikus tell-települése, melyet többszörös körárok-paliszád rendszer és egy külső település vesz körül. A közel 36 000 m² nagyságú feltárt területen más objektumok mellett 90 épület és 145 sír látott napvilágot. Az ezekhez tartozó igen gazdag régészeti forrásanyag kiváló alapot ad egy reprezentatív kvantitatív vizsgálathoz. A feltárás forrásanyagának különleges adottságait kihasználva a csőszhalmi házak környezete által képviselt alapvető fizikai egységek (azaz a ház, gödör, kút, sír együtteseiből álló „alap-modulok”) viszonylatrendszerében kívánjuk megvizsgálni az egyes régészeti forrás-típusok eloszlási sajátosságait: a házak méreteit, a finom és durva kerámia típusra és díszítésre vonatkozó adatait, a kő- és csonteszközök anyagot és funkciót érintő információit, az állatcsont-anyag faj, nem szerinti metrikus adatait, valamint a sírok antropológiai paramétereit, továbbá a bennük eltemetésre került mellékletek presztízs értékét. Kutatásunk ezen anyagcsoportokat egymással összefüggő dinamikus hálózat együtteseként kezeli. A régészeti adatok horizontjait GIS alapú rendszerben összesítjük. A háztartási egységek elemi moduljaiból kiindulva lehetőség adódik a háztartások egykor létező csoportosulásainak, illetve azok rendszerének rekonstrukciójára is. Tudomásunk szerint Európában ilyen koncepcióban megvalósuló ősrégészeti vizsgálat jelenleg nem folyik.

The Polgár–Csőszhalom site, unearthed between 1990 and 2004, represents the northernmost Neolithic tell settlement in South-East Europe, encircled by an enclosure of multiple ditches and of a flat settlement. On the investigated area of some 36,000 m2 90 houseplans and 145 burials were uncovered among other archaeological features. The remarkably rich body of archaeological finds belonging to them provides an exceptionally good basis for a representative quantitative analysis. Given the unique diversity of the data gained from the site’s investigation, we propose to examine the distribution of various find categories and resources in relation to the physical units represented by the Csőszhalom houses (basic modules made up of house, pit, well and burial): the house dimensions, the types and ornamentation of fine and coarse pottery wares, the fabric and function of the lithic and bone implements, the metric data on the species and sex of the animal bone sample, the physical anthropological parameters of the burials, and the prestige value of the grave goods. Our planned analyses treate these various resource categories as parts of a multiscalar dynamic network. The horizons of the archaeological data will be integrated into a GIS-based system. It allows the reconstruction of the one-time clusters of households and their system based on the basic modules of the households. As far as we know, this research project represents the first use of this concept in prehistoric studies.

Kutatásaink célja Polgár-Csőszhalom késő neolitikus lelőhelykomplexumából az egyrétegű településen feltárt több száz objektum és 250 000 db-os leletanyag feldolgozása és háztartásrégészeti szempontú analízise volt. Hagyományos régészeti, statisztikai, térbeli statisztikai módszerekkel és radiokarbon kormeghatározással vizsgáltuk az épületek, gödrök, kutak és temetkezések, valamint a belőlük előkerült kerámia, állatcsont és kőeszköz lelettípusok tér- és időbeli szóródását, mintázatát, kapcsolódási pontjait. Vizsgálataink a tevékenységek, kapcsolatok, térhasználat sokszínűségét bizonyították, melyek nehezen írhatók le korábbi mechanikus, szűk, statikus keretek közt mozgó sémáinkkal. Elemzéseink eddigi eredményei arra mutattak rá, hogy Polgár-Csőszhalom egyrétegű lelőhelyén a leletanyag, a tevékenységek, a térhasználat és ideológia összefüggésében a háztartások mellett nagyobb közösségeket lehet azonosítani, melyek sokféleképpen és több szinten működhettek együtt cselekvéseikben. Ezek a közösségek a különböző tevékenységeik során különböző tereket használtak, melynek nem voltak merev határai. Mindez arra utal, hogy a Kr. e. V. évezredben jól szervezett, közreműködő és hagyományait megőrző, a kihívásokra jól reagáló közösség lakta a települést mintegy 250 éven át.

The aim of our research was the processing and analysis of the hundreds of archaeological features and a 250.000 finds of the single layer settlement from the Late Neolithic site-complex of Polgár-Csőszhalom with a household archaeological approach. We analysed the buildings, the pits, the wells and the burials with conventional archaeological-, statistical- and spatial statistical methods and radiocarbon dating and also the distribution in time and space, the patterns and the connection points of the ceramics, animal bones and lithics which came to light from them. Our research evidenced the diversity of the contemporary activities, connections and use of space, which cannot easily be described with our earlier limited, static archaeological schemes. The results of our analysis up till now pointed out, that at the level of the archaeological finds, contemporary activities, the use of space and ideology, larger collectives can be identified besides the households in the single layer settlement of Polgár-Csőszhalom. These collectives probably cooperated with each other in many ways. These collectives used different spaces without exact boarders for different activities. All this implies that in the 5th millennium BC a well-organized, collaborative and tradition-minded community lived in the settlement for about 250 years, which had an answer for all of the challenges of everyday life.
