A csillagok a csillagközi por- és gázfelhők legsűrűbb területeinek gravitációs összeomlása során keletkeznek. A folyamatban nagyon fontos szerepet játszik a csillagkörüli korong, amely már a csillagkeletkezés legkorábbi fázisaiban megjelenik, utánpótlást biztosít a protocsillag tömegnövekedéséhez, a későbbiekben pedig a bolygórendszer szülőhelyévé válik. Az elmúlt évek nagyon jelentős előrelépései ellenére még mindig elég keveset tudunk a korong legbelső részéről, ahol a földtípusú bolygók keletkeznek; az anyagbefogás folyamatáról; és arról, hogyan és miért tűnik el a korong gáztartalma néhány millió év után. Sok a nyitott kérdés a gáz nélküli porkorong további fejlődésével, a benne elinduló pornövekedéssel és a kialakuló bolygócsírák, illetve az azok ütközései során létrejövő másodlagos porpopuláció tulajdonságaival kapcsolatban is. A jelen pályázatban egy kutatási programra teszünk javaslatot, amelyben keretében tanulmányozzuk a fiatal csillagok körüli protoplanetáris korongok szerkezetét, és követjük a fősorozati csillagok törmelékkorongjainak fejlődését. A kutatást a jelenleg és a közeljövőben elérhető legmodernebb megfigyelőeszközökkel - különös tekintettel az infravörös és űrtávcsövekre - valamint élvonalbeli numerikus modellek kifejlesztésével és felhasználásával kívánjuk megvalósítani. Reményeink szerint az új eredmények segítenek a korongok tulajdonságainak, így a bolygókeletkezés kezdőfeltételeinek tisztázásában.

Stars are formed by gravitational collapse in the densest regions of interstellar gas and dust clouds. In this process a central role is played by the circumstellar disk, which appears at very early phases of the collapse, feeds the growing protostar via mass accretion, and later becomes the birthplace of planets. In spite of tremendous progress in the last decade, we still know little about the inner few astronomical units of the disks (the realm of terrestrial planets), about the accretion process, and on why and how the gas content of the disk disperses after a few million years. There are also open questions related to the evolution of the remaining dust disk, including the growth of dust particles to planetesimals and the production of new dust via the collisions of these bodies. Here we propose a research programme aiming to explore the structure of protoplanetary disks, and follow debris dust disk evolution of young main-sequence stars. The research will be conducted by the Infrared and Space Astronomy Group at Konkoly Observatory, using modern international high-resolution instruments, including infrared and submillimetre space telescopes, as well as up-to-date modelling tools. The results will lead to a clearer view on the initial conditions of planet formation.

A csillagok és bolygórendszereik keletkezésének megértése a 21. századi asztrofizika egyik legnagyobb erőkkel kutatott területe, amely megköveteli a legmodernebb asztrofizikai műszerek és modellezési eljárások használatát. Ebben a pályázatban: - meghatároztuk az ESA Planck űrtávcsőve által azonosított hideg csillagközi felhőcsomók egy almintájának szerkezetét, hőmérsékletét és kinematikáját. - feltérképeztük az Lynds 1340 csillagkeletkezési terület teljes fiatal csillag populációját. - a korábbiaknál nagyobb térbeli felbontással detektáltunk egy negyedik fiatal csillagot a T Tauri rendszerben. - infravörös interferometrikus mérésekkel változatos és időben változó szilkát mineralógiát találtunk a DG Tau belső korongjában. - optikai-infravörös hullámhosszakon monitoroztuk a pályázat ideje alatt kitört eruptív csillagokat, rádió hullámhosszakon pedig megvizsgáltuk a környezetüket. Megmutattuk, hogy a kitörés gyakran nem tisztán akkréciós, hanem egy akkréciós és egy ahhoz kapcsolódó extinkciós változás kombinációja. - kimutattuk molekuláris gáz jelenlétét törmelékkorongokban, és definiáltuk a gázos törmelékkorongok egy új osztályát. Az ún. hibrid korongokban a porszemcsék már a bolygócsírák ütközéseiből származnak, míg a gáz az eredeti protoplanetáris korong maradványa. Egyes törmelékkorongok dinamikai gerjesztéséből nagybolygók jelenlétére következtettünk.

Understanding the birth of our Sun and the Solar System is one of the main challenges of 21st century astrophysics, which requires cutting edge instruments and modelling tools. In this NKFIH grant: - we determined the density, temperature structure, and kinematics for a subset of cold galactic cores identified by ESA’s Planck mission. - obtained a complete inventory of the young stellar object population in the intermediate-mass star forming region Lynds 1340. - we imaged the T Tauri system with unprecedented spatial resolution, and hinted for a fourth component - using mid-infrared interferometric observations we discovered a radially and temporarily variable silicate mineralogy in the inner disk of DG Tauri - we performed optical-infrared monitoring of those young eruptive stars which produced outburst during our project, and studied their environment at radio wavelengths. We demonstrated that in many cases the brightening is a combined effect of rising accretion rate and an associated extinction change in the inner disk. - we discovered several debris disks which contain molecular gas, and defined the so-called hybrid disks where the dust component is already produced by the destruction of planetesimals while the large amount of observed gas is probably of primordial origin. In certain debris disks we showed that the stirring of the planetesimals’s orbits hint at the presence of giant planets in the system
