Brodarics István a 16. századi magyarországi humanizmus egyik legjelentősebb alakja. Most kiadásra kerülő levelezése nemcsak a már korábban, különböző helyeken megjelent, mintegy 190 általa vagy neki írt levél szövegét tartalmazza eredeti kéziratokra alapozott, javított kiadásban, de az újabb kutatások során előkerült további 140 levelet is, melyek most kerülnek majd első ízben publikálásra. A főként diplomataként tevékenykedő Brodarics levelezése elsőrangú forrás mind a késő Jagelló-korra (1522-1526), mind a Mohács utáni időszakra (1526-1539) vonatkozóan. Mivel azonban Brodarics kitűnő kapcsolatokat ápolt számos külföldi humanista mellett a korabeli Európa vezető politikusaival is, levelezése legalább annyira jelentős történelmi, mint irodalomtörténeti forrás. Brodarics szerteágazó kapcsolatai miatt pedig a szövegkiadás nem lehet érdektelen a közép-európai humanizmust, illetve Közép-Európa kora újkori történelmét kutató külföldi kollégák számára sem.

István Brodarics is one of the most important figure of the Hungarian humanism of the 16th century. The now planned critical edition of his correspondence contains not only the corrected versions of his already published 190 letters based upon original manuscripts, but furthermore 140 yet unknown ones, which have been recently discovered and are going to be published first time in the planned volume. The correspondence of Brodarics, who mainly was active as a diplomat, can be considered as a source of first rank to the late-Jagellonian phase of the Hungarian history (1522-1526), and to the after-Mohács period (1526-1539) as well. Since Brodarics was very familiar besides a lot of foreign humanists with many leading politicians all over Europe, his correspondence offers sources not only to the history but to the literary-history as well. Because of Brodarics’ international relationships this text edition can be interesting for foreign colleagues dealing with Central-European humanism or the early modern history of this area as well.

Az OTKA-project keretében kiadott levelezése nemcsak a már korábban, különböző helyeken megjelent, mintegy 190 általa vagy neki írt levél szövegét tartalmazza eredeti kéziratokra alapozott, javított kiadásban, de az újabb kutatások során előkerült további 160 levelet is, melyek most kerültek első ízben publikálásra. A kötet használatát angol nyelvű regeszták, szintén angol nyelvű gazdag jegyzetapparátus, valamint hely- és névmutató segíti.
