Az a ngol nyelven publikálandó 22 ív terjedelmű könyv a természetfeletti kommunikáció kérdéseinek elméleti és fenomenológiai áttekintése. Elsősorban magyar és más közép-kelet-európai esettanulmányokból kiindulva adok áttekintést az európai kommunikáció-típusokról (keresztény látók, samanizmus, megszállottság, médiumizmus, a “kettős lények” – mora és werwolf típus – kommunikációja, stb.), bemutatom az újkorban élő formákat a kutatási modell és az élő gyakorlat kettősségében és egymással való összefüggéseikben. Univerzális mentális tapasztalatokról és technikákról van szó, amelyek múltbeli szerepe igen nagy volt Európa elit és népi kultúráiban egyaránt, de mindezideig nem tárgyalták őket együttesen, teljes komplexitásukban, hanem – történészek, vallástörténészek és folkloristák egyaránt – csakis változatos egyéni nézőpontokból megközelítve, egymástól függetlenül vizsgálták őket. A bemutatás és elemzés gerincét a látók, varázslók köré fűződő hiedelem- és rituskomplexumok vizsgálata adja (milyen testi-lelki kondiciók alapján, milyen isten- és szellemvilággal, milyen túlvilágokkal kommunikálnak). Ezen a rendszeren belül rajzolódnak ki a látók különböző közösségi szerepei (keresztény vizionáló, idővarázsló, kincslátó, halottlátó, stb.).

The a book offers a comprehensive overview of all types of communication techniques, based on the complex examination of early modern and modern sources as well as the contemporary folklore material, using a complex approach of religious history, historical anthropology and folklore studies. Based primarily on Hungarian and other Central and Eastern European case studies, I review the types of communication present in Europe (Christian visionaries; ‘shamanism’, possession, mediumism, the communication of double beings and shapeshifters etc.), and then attempt a summary interpretation of these phenomena. The problematic addressed in the interpretation unfolds along the following questions: do the presented types constitute an independent system; how do they relate to each other; what are the local variants of archaic universal communication systems and how are these integrated into Christianity; was there ever a unique Hungarian shamanism; how can we reinterpret connections between ‘shamanism’ and witchcraft and rethink the origin of Witches’ Sabbath. This work will focus on the connections between the subjects treated separately by historians, historians of religion and folklore researchers, on the connections between early modern historical sources and modern folklore material, as well as the changes over time and variations over space. A Palgrave Macmillan Kiadó (Houndmills, Basingstoke, Hampshire RG21 6XS) fogja publikálni a Palgrave Historical Studies in Witchcraft and Magic sorozatában, 2014 végéig. A könyv a természetfeletti kommunikáció kérdéseinek elméleti és fenomenológiai áttekintése. Elsősorban magyar és más közép-kelet-európai esettanulmányokból kiindulva, a történeti forrásokat is felhasználva ad áttekintést az európai kommunikáció-típusokról (keresztény látók, samanizmus, megszállottság, médiumizmus, a “kettős lények” és alakváltók kommunikációja, stb.). The English translation of the book entitled Supernatural Communication in Central and Eastern Europe has been finished by Orsolya Frank. The length of the manuscript is 888 000 characters. The book will be published by the Palgrave Macmillan Publishers (Houndmills, Basingstoke, Hampshire RG21 6XS) in the series Palgrave Historical Studies in Witchcraft and Magic by the end of 2014. It offers a comprehensive overview of all types of communication techniques, based on the complex examination of early modern and modern sources as well as the contemporary folklore material. Based primarily on Hungarian and other Central and Eastern European case studies, the author reviews the types of communication present in Europe.The central core of presentation and analysis will be the examination of complexes of beliefs and rites accumulated around seers and magicians. The contents of the book: Introduction. Archaic, universal foundations for creating contact. Techniques of supernatural communication. Contact with nature demons: werewolf magicians. Contact with the fairies. Contacts with demons of the air: weather magicians. Contact with the dead: necromancers, cunning men, seers of treasure.
