Itt írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit a témában jártas szakember számára.
A magyar ipar történetében egy új fejezet kezdődött 1989 után. Azóta markáns változások mentek végbe az iparban, amelyek a területi megoszlását sem hagyták érintetlenül. Az ipar térszerkezete ma is változik a különböző térformáló erőknek köszönhetően. Vannak olyan tényezők, amelyek már korábban is befolyásolták az ipar térbeli megoszlását és vannak olyanok, amelyek csak az utóbbi időben jelentek meg és a hatásuk még nem ismert. Ide sorolható a negyedik ipari forradalom, amely a termelésben fog forradalmi változásokat indukálni, de az ipar térbeli struktúráját is átalakíthatja, illetve a különbözőképpen iparosodott területeket eltérő mértékben érintheti. A kutatás fő célja annak feltárása, hogy a magyar ipar jelenlegi földrajzi folyamatait hogyan befolyásolja az újabb technológiai átalakulás. Feltételezhető ugyanis, hogy az ipar területi elhelyezkedésében ismét nagy átrendeződések következnek be lokális és regionális szinten is, amelyek nagymértékben függnek – többek között – az ipari vállalkozások sajátosságaitól, különösen a munkaerő minőségétől, a kommunikációs infrastruktúrától és a vállalkozások hálózati kapcsolataitól.

Mi a kutatás alapkérdése?
Ebben a részben írja le röviden, hogy mi a kutatás segítségével megválaszolni kívánt probléma, mi a kutatás kiinduló hipotézise, milyen kérdéseket válaszolnak meg a kísérletek.
A kutatás alapkérdése: hogyan hat a negyedik ipari forradalom a magyar ipar területi folyamataira és térszerkezetére. Az elkövetkezendő években a hagyományos térformáló erők mellett milyen szerepet játszik a termelés radikális átalakulása, információs hálózatokba kapcsolódása az ipari termelés térbeli megoszlásában a térszerveződés különböző szintjein az ipari vállalkozások jellemzőitől függően.
A kutatás fő kiinduló hipotézise: a negyedik ipari forradalom a magyar ipar térszerkezetében, a centrum-periféria területek vonatkozásában jelentős változásokat indukálhat és átrendeződhetnek az iparilag fejlett és kevésbé fejlett területek is.
Arra keressük a választ, hogy az ipar technológiai fejlődése milyen területi konzekvenciákkal jár. S azok hogyan magyarázhatók a vállalkozások sajátosságaival, elsősorban a munkaerő, a kommunikációs infrastruktúra és a hálózatok szempontjából? Továbbá hogyan hat a negyedik ipari forradalom az ipar ágazati struktúrájára és az hogyan nyilvánul meg a térben? Van-e útfüggőség vagy egy teljesen új térszerkezet jön létre? Milyen területi típusok különíthetők el? Különösen érdekes, hogy milyen szerkezeti és funkcionális változásokat eredményeznek a technológiai változások a nagyobb települések, pl. a városok iparának lokációjában.

Mi a kutatás jelentősége?
Röviden írja le, milyen új perspektívát nyitnak az alapkutatásban az elért eredmények, milyen társadalmi hasznosíthatóságnak teremtik meg a tudományos alapját. Mutassa be, hogy a megpályázott kutatási területen lévő hazai és a nemzetközi versenytársaihoz képest melyek az egyediségei és erősségei a pályázatának!
A kutatás elsődlegesen azért jelentős, mert az ipar területi folyamatait és az ipar térszerkezeti változásait új megközelítésben, a negyedik. ipari forradalommal összefüggésben vizsgálja. Ezt eddig nem kutatták, habár az ipar területi kutatásával hazai és külföldi szakemberek sora (pl. Bartke I., Bora Gy., Barta Gy., Domanski, B., Nemes Nagy J., Pavlinek, P., Pál Á, Rechnitzer J., Stryjakiewicz, T.) foglalkozott. Az eredmények révén nemcsak a negyedik ipari forradalom által indukált területi különbségek tárulnak fel lokális és regionális szinten, hanem azok okai is. Következésképp hozzájárul a kutatás ahhoz, hogy az okokkal összhangban levő beavatkozások révén csökkenjenek a területi különbségek és a kevésbé fejlett ipari területek is bekapcsolódhassanak az ipari termelésbe, s újraiparosodjanak. Elősegíti az ipari vállalkozások és az egyes területek versenyképességének a növekedését is. Lokális szinten szintén nagy változások következhetnek be a területhasználatban és a településszerkezetben, amelyek a település egészét érinthetik.

A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára
Ebben a fejezetben írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit alapműveltséggel rendelkező laikusok számára. Ez az összefoglaló a döntéshozók, a média, illetve az érdeklődők tájékoztatása szempontjából különösen fontos az NKFI Hivatal számára.
A 21. század második évtizedében a magyar ipar területi megoszlásában újabb radikális változások kezdődhetnek, amit a negyedik ipari forradalom indukál. Ez alapvetően a termelés átalakulását, digitalizációját és hálózatokba szerveződését jelenti. Ezek a változások térben és időben differenciáltan jelentkeznek. Lesznek majd olyan vállalkozások és területek, amelyek gyorsan reagálnak s lesznek, amelyek lassabban. Tulajdonképpen ennek okait és a termelés földrajzi átrendeződését vizsgálja ez a kutatás az ipari vállalkozások különböző (méret, tulajdonos származása, munkaerő minősége, kommunikációs infrastruktúra, hálózati kapcsolatok stb.) ismérvei tükrében.

After 1989 a new era has been started in the history of Hungarian industry. Since then relevant changes have taken place in the industry which did not leave its spatial pattern untouched. The spatial pattern of industry is changing even today due to the spatial forming forces. There are such factors which have already earlier affected the spatial distribution of industry and there are such ones which have only appeared lately and their impact is not known yet. The fourth industrial revolution belongs to this group, and it will induce revolutionary changes in production, but it can also transform the spatial structure of industry, and it can affect the differentially industrialized areas in a different degree. The main purpose of the research is to reveal how the current geographical processes of Hungarian industry are influenced by newer technological transformation. It is presumable that great restructuring will take place again in the spatial distribution of industry on regional and local levels which depends considerably – among others – on the characteristics of industrial enterprises, particularly on the quality of labour force, on communication infrastructure and the network relations of enterprises.

What is the major research question?
Describe here briefly the problem to be solved by the research, the starting hypothesis, and the questions addressed by the experiments.
The key question of the research: how does the fourth industrial revolution affect the regional processes and spatial structure of Hungarian industry? What kind of role will the radical transformation of production and its connections to information networks play in the spatial pattern of industrial production on different spatial levels depending on the characteristics of industrial enterprises in the following years?
The main starting hypothesis of the research: fourth industrial revolution can induce significant changes in the spatial structure of Hungarian industry and in the centre-periphery relations, and the more and less industrialised areas can be also restructured.
The response is looked for that, what kind of regional consequences will accompany the technological development of industry. And how those can be explained by the characteristics of enterprises, from the viewpoints of labour force, communication infrastructure and networks? Moreover, how does the fourth industrial revolution affect the branch structure of industry and how is that manifested in space? Is there any path-dependency or will a completely new spatial structure be come true? What regional types can be distinguished? It is particularly interesting what kind of structural and functional changes are resulted in by technological changes in the location of industry in the larger settlements, e.g. towns.

What is the significance of the research?
Describe the new perspectives opened by the results achieved, including the scientific basics of potential societal applications. Please describe the unique strengths of your proposal in comparison to your domestic and international competitors in the given field.
This research is important primarily because it examines the regional processes of industry and its spatial structural changes in a new approach, in connection with the fourth industrial revolution. This has not been studied yet, though many researchers (e.g. Bartke I., Bora Gy., Barta Gy., Domanski, B., Nemes Nagy J., Pavlinek, P., Pál Á., Rechnitzer J., Stryjakiewicz, T.) have dealt with the regional research of industry in Hungary and abroad. Thanks to the results not only the regional differences induced by technology revolution will be revealed but also their reasons. As a consequence the research will contribute to the decrease of regional differences in harmony with causes and the less developed industrial areas can be joined into industrial production, to be reindustrialised. This research also promotes the increase of competitiveness of industrial enterprises and each area. On local level great changes can also take place in land use and settlement structure which can affect the whole settlement.

Summary and aims of the research for the public

In the second decades of 21st century newer radical changes can be started in the spatial pattern of industry what is induced by the fourth industrial revolution. This basically means the transformation of production, its digitalization and organising into networks. These changes will appear differentially in time and space. There will be such enterprises and areas which react faster and there will be such ones which much slower. In fact, this research examines the causes of this and the geographical restructuring of production in the mirror of the different characteristics (size, origin of owner, quality of labour, communication infrastructure, network connections etc.) of industrial enterprises.

A negyedik ipari forradalom korai időszakában több új trendet azonosítottunk a magyar ipar területi folyamataiban. Közülük az egyik legfontosabb az Ipar 4.0 technológiák terjedése. Ez a periférikus területeken, a kisebb településeken és bizonyos iparágakban kevésbé előrehaladott. A leggyakoribb okok (pl. méret, tulajdonos) mellett olyanokra is felhívtuk a figyelmet (ágazati hovatartozás, földrajzi fekvés, központ-telephely kapcsolatok, ICT infrastruktúra fejlettsége) és értékeltük a jelentőségüket, amelyek eddig kevés figyelmet kaptak. Bebizonyítottuk, hogy az „útfüggőség” miatt az ipar ágazati területi szerkezete bizonyos fokig determinálja az új technológiák megjelenését. Bár az ipari foglalkoztatottak száma nőtt az országban az elmúlt évtizedben, ennek ellenére több megyében csökkenés tapasztalható, ami az Ipar 4.0 technológiáknak is tulajdonítható. Emiatt új képességekre és kompetenciákra is szükség lesz a munkaerőpiacon, amelyeket szintén meghatároztunk. A COVID-19 járvány következtében bevezetett Egészségipari Támogatási Program a meglevő ipari térszerkezethez kapcsolódott, azt „konzerválta”. Ezzel szemben az ipari vállalatok és egyetemek szorosabb együttműködése nemcsak a felsőfokú oktatásban és szakképzésben hozhat tartósabb változásokat, hanem az ipar földrajzában is. A magyar ipar duális térszerkezetében lassú elmozdulás kezdődött az ország keleti-északkeleti része felé és a Duna mentén, az ország középső része felé, ami új ipari térszerkezethez vezethet.

In the early period of the fourth industrial revolution, we identified several new trends in the territorial processes of Hungarian industry. One of the most important is the spread of Industry 4.0 technologies. This is less advanced in peripheral areas, smaller settlements and certain branches. In addition to the most common reasons (e.g. size, owner), we also drew attention to those (sector affiliation, geographical location, headquarters-plant relations, development of ICT infrastructure) and evaluated their significance, which have received little attention so far. We proved that due to ‘path dependence’, the branch territorial structure of manufacturing determines the appearance of new technologies. Although the number of industrial employees has increased in the country in the last decade, in several counties however a decrease can be experienced, which can also be attributed to I4.0 technologies. The Health Industry Support Program introduced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic was connected to the existing industrial spatial structure and ‘conserved’ it. On the other hand, closer cooperation between industrial companies and universities can bring more lasting changes not only in higher education and vocational training, but also in the geography of industry. A slow shift in the dual spatial structure of Hungarian industry began towards the eastern – north-eastern and central parts of the country (along the Danube), which may lead to a new industrial spatial pattern.
