Az ultrarövid, 100 fs hosszú fényimpulzusokat előállító lézerek 90-es évek elején, a 10 fs és rövidebb impulzusú lézerek a 90-es évek második felében kezdődött, napjainkban is gyorsuló elterjedésével egyre nő az érdeklődés az anyagok lineáris illetve nemlineáris optikai tulajdonságainak minél teljesebb ismerete iránt. A pályázat keretein belül végrehajtott kutatások jelentős része különböző nemlineáris optikai kísérleteken alapul, a kétfotonos abszorpciós együttható mérésétől kezdve a porcelánok roncsolási tartományának megállapításáig. Külön említést érdemel a lineáris femtoeszekundumos mérési módszer kifejlesztése illetve az annak segítségével végzett nagy pontosságú diszperziómérés és törésmutató meghatározás. A femtoszekundumos fényforrásokkal és mérésekkel kapcsolatosan végzett további kutatásainkból kiemelendő az ultrarövid impulzusok hordozó-burkoló fázis csúszásának (CEP csúszás) mérésére kidolgozott egyedülállóan új, lineáris eljárás. A kutatás során a pályázatban eredetileg 6-10 referált folyóiratbeli cikk valamint hazai és nemzetközi konferenciákon összesen 8-12 konferencia-anyag tervezett elkészítésével szemben ténylegesen 12 referált folyóriatbeli cikket jelentettünk meg, valamint 24 konferenciaanyagot mutattunk be. Ezen túl számtalan (O)TDK dolgozat, három diplomamunka valamint egy PhD disszertáció készült el.

Ultrafast lasers with pulse duration of 100 fs are developed in the early 90's, while lasers with pulse duration 10 fs in the second half of the 90's; in our days, the ever spreading interest for the linear and non-linear optical properties of materials is increasing fast. The significant part of the research under the frame of this project is based on different non-linear optical experiments starting from the measurement of two-photon absorption coefficients even to the determination of the damage threshold of china plates. It is worth to mention the development of a linear femtosecond measurement method and the very high precision dispersion and refractive index measurement based on it. We also have to highlight from our presented researches of femtosecond light sources and measurements the method developed for the determination of the carrier-envelope phase drift (CEP drift) of ultrafast pulses, which is a fundamentally new, stand alone linear method. During our work of the project, instead the originally planned 6 to 10 refereed journal papers and 8 to 12 national and international conference proceedings, we managed to produce 12 refereed journal papers and 24 conference proceedings. Moreover, countless papers on the National Scientific Students' Associations Conference (OTDK), three diploma thesis and one PhD dissertation were completed.
