A projekt célja olyan mechanikai problémák vizsgálata, amelyeket a Δp un. p-Laplace operátorral lehet leírni. Ilyen fordul elő pl. a folyadékok mechanikájában ha a csúsztatófeszültség és a deformációsebesség kapcsolatát hatványfüggvény írja le az u.n. nemnewtoni, hatványfüggvény közegeknél (p<1 pszeudoplasztikus, p>1 dilatáló közeg). A Δp megjelenik a porózus közegen átáramló folyadékoknál (p=1/2), vagy pє(0, 1/3] a gleccserek mozgásánál, a plasztikus (p→∞) torziós folyás matematikai modelljénél, a kvantum mechanikában a nemlineáris mező egyenletben (p=6).

A kétfős csoport feladata az ilyen típusú kvázilineáris közönséges és parciális differenciálegyenletek kvalitatív vizsgálata, különös tekinettel a Hill és a Mathieu egyenletek kvázilineáris analógjaira, a periodikus és a szemiperiodikus megoldások tulajdonságai és azok stabilitása.

Feltételezéseink igazolásához ill. cáfolásához jelentős numerikus számításokra lesz szükség, ahhoz, hogy meglássuk a fontosabb tényeket és optimális stratégiákat keressünk.

A projekt feladataira kapott főbb eredményeinket neves nemzetközi folyóiratokban szándékozunk közölni.

The aim of this project is to investigate such problems in mechanics which can be described by the so called p-Laplacian Δp. We meet this e.g. in fluid mechanics if the shear stress and the velocity gradient obey the power function law in a non-Newtonian fluid (p<1 pseudoplastic, p>1 dilatant fluid). Δp appears int he study of flow through porous media (p=1/2), or glacial sliding pє(0, 1/3], in the mathematical model of the torsional creep (p→∞), in nonlinear field equation in quantum mechanics for p=6.

The task of the group is to investigate the qualitative properties of solutions to such type of quasilinear ordinary and partial differential equations, the attention will be paid to the quasilinear analogues of the Mathieu and Hill equations, the properties of periodic and semi-periodic solutions and the stability of solutions.

To prove or disprove some of the conjectures will require some massive numerical experiments which will help to visualize some important facts and to find optimal strategies.

The main results obtained during the solution of this project will be published in recognized international journal.

Catolica de Chile, Santiago, Chile és Prof. Raul Manasevich, Univ. de Chile, Santiago -Prof. Siavash Sohrab, Northwestern Univ., IL, USA Az pályázat keretében a műszaki gyakorlatban előforduló olyan problémák vizsgálatával foglalkoztunk, amelyek modellezésében a deriváltak nemlineárisan az ún. p-Laplace operátoron keresztül jelennek meg. Tipikusan ilyen feladatok a nemnewtoni folyadékok áramlása során, filtrációnál, porózus közegen való szivárgásnál jelentkeznek. Foglalkoztunk még nemnewtoni folyadékok reakció-diffúzió feladataival és határréteg áramlásával, ill. speciálisan polietilén csőben való áramlásával a viszkozitást is figyelembe véve.

These type of problems occur in the non Newtonian fluid flows, filtrations or flows through porous media. We also investigated the reaction-diffusion problems and boundary layer problems of non Newtonian fluids, moreover the flow of polyethylene in pipe considering the viscosity.
