A projektben számos travertino előfordulást vizsgáltunk újra. A korhatározás pontossága és a feltárási feltételek alapján néhány előfordulást választottunk ki részletes elemzésre. Az Új-Haraszti kőfejtő travertinója a 148 és 415 ka közötti időszakot fedi le. A süttői Gazda és Cukor kőfejtők travertinóin részletes szedimentológiai, szerkezetföldtani és rezervoárgeológiai elemzéseket végeztünk, aminek alapján egy töréshez kapcsolódó forráskiömlési helyszínt lehet rögzíteni. A jelenleg képződő karbonátok „clumped isotope” elemzése kalibrációs görbét eredményezett, amit a fosszilis travertinók vizsgálatában lehet hasznosítani. A termálvízből történő karbonátkiválás és a barlangi környezetek monitorozásával nagyszámú adatot tartalmazó adatbázis jött létre, amit a nyomelem- és stabilizotóp-összetételek értelmezésében lehet alkalmazni, valamint alapvető karbonátképződési folyamatokat tártunk fel. Az utolsó interglaciálistól napjainkig terjedő időszakot lefedő cseppkőképződmények elemzését változatos módszerek alkalmazásával végeztük el. Az utolsó kb. 130 ezer év során a Kárpát-medencére jellemző hőmérséklet- csapadék- és szerzonalitás-változásokat mutattunk ki, ami a régió klímaváltozásokkal szembeni viselkedésének megértéséhez járul hozzá. Az eredményeket a geokémia és a paleoklíma-kutatás vezető folyóirataiban publikáltuk.
Results in English
Numerous travertine occurrences were revisited and analysed in this project. Based on age determination precision and outcrop preservation, selected occurrences could be studied in details. The travertine body of the Új-Haraszti quarry was deposited during the Middle-Pleistocene, between 415 and 148 ky. Sedimentological, structural geological and reservoir geological investigations on the travertines of the Gazda-quarry and the Sugar Quarry of Süttő were performed that revealed fissure ridge like structures that could have served as the main paleospring discharge point. Clumped isotope analyses of recently forming carbonates yielded a calibration curve for analyses of fossil travertines. Monitoring of carbonate formation in thermal waters as well as cave environments yielded an extensive database. The studies determined the relationships between environmental paramateres and speleothem compositions, providing a base for the interpretations of trace element and isotopic compositions, as well as revealed fundamental carbonate precipitation processes. Speleothems covering a wide temporal range from the last interglacial to the present time have been investigated using various analytical methods. Temperature, humidity and seasonality changes in the Carpathian Basin were deciphered for the last ~130 ka, contributing to the knowledge of the region’s behavior during climate change events. The results were published in leading journals of geochemistry and paleoclimate research.
