Summary in Hungarian
A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései szakemberek számára
Itt írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit a témában jártas szakember számára.

A nanokristályos gyémánt vékonyrétegeket kiemelkedő mechanikai, optikai és termikus tulajdonságaiknak köszönhetően a modern technika számos területén alkalmazzák, illetve folynak fejlesztések alkalmazásukra. Jól ismert pl. a számítógépes merevlemezek védőbevonataként való hasznosításuk, de újabban a szenzorok, orvosi implantátumok és az elektronikai ipar területén is folynak ígéretes fejlesztések. Kedvező lumineszcencia tulajdonságai (stabil, intenzív, széles emissziós tartomány) pedig alkalmassá teszik speciális, nagy felbontású képalkotó módszerek fejlesztésére.

Kutatásaim célja olyan színcentrumok létrehozása fémes ionok nanogyémánt szemcsékbe és vékonyrétegekbe való bevitelével, amelyeknél a gyenge elektron-fonon csatolás miatt az emittált energia a Zérus-fonon vonalban koncentrálódik. A rétegek előállítási paramétereinek szisztematikus módosításával megvizsgálom, hogy a bevitt fémionok fajtája és koncentrációja függvényében hogyan változnak a nanogyémánt vékonyréteg olyan fontos tulajdonságai, mint az elektronszerkezet a sávhatárok közelében illetve a felület morfológiája.

A kutatómunka várható eredménye: (1) stabil, intenzíven lumineszkáló színcentrumok létrehozása nanogyémántban, (2) részletes kísérleti eredmények ezen színcentrumok jellemzőiről.

Mi a kutatás alapkérdése?

A módszer optimalizálása során megvizsgálom a felületi kezelések hatását a nanogyémánt rétegek tilossávjában található elektronállapotokra.

Mi a kutatás jelentősége?

Alkalmazás szempontjából előnyös optikai tulajdonságokkal rendelkezik a nanogyémánt.

A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára
Ebben a fejezetben írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit alapműveltséggel rendelkező laikusok számára.

Ilyen szempontból a gyémánt különlegesen ígéretes anyagnak tekinthető, hiszen kialakíthatók benne egy-foton generálására alkalmas színcentrumok. Pontosan úgy is fogalmazhatnánk, hogy a gyémánt az egyetlen, jelenleg ismert anyag, amelyben szobahőmérsékleten stabil egy-foton kibocsátására alkalmas színcentrum létrehozható.
A fluoreszcens nanogyémánt alkalmazása optikai jelölésre a biológiában, gyógyászatban és más a biológiához kapcsolódó kutatásokban a nanofizika egyik vezető kutatási iránya.
A néhány tíz nm szemcseméretű nanogyémánt fotolumineszcencia spektrumában zérus fonon emissziónak megfelelő intenzív fluoreszcencia sávot még nem sikerült kialakítani (irodalmi ismereteink szerint), így a nanogyémánt krisztallit magjához kapcsolódó intenzív lumineszcencia elérése fontos kutatási feladat.
A kutatási programban külső szennyező atomok bevitelével és különböző kezelések alkalmazásával keskeny fluoreszcenciasávokkal jellemezhető nanogyémántot szeretnék előállítani és optikailag jellemezni.
Summary
Summary of the research and its aims for experts
Describe the major aims of the research for experts.

Due to its unique and advantageous mechanical, optical and thermal properties nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) is widely used in many areas of modern technology. Besides the well-known application as protective coating of computer hard disk, promising developments were made in the filed of sensors, medical instruments and electronics. Favorable luminescence properties of NCD (photostable emission, wide emission range at room temperature, narrow photoluminescence linewidth) make this material eligible for specific and high quality imaging applications.
The aim of my work is to generate metallic color centers in nanodiamond grains and thin films, where the emitted energy concentrates in the Zero-phonon line due to the weak phonon-coupling. With systematic modification of the deposition parameters I will analyze the behavior of the electronic structure near band edges and surface morphology with type and concentration of the dopants.
Expected results: (1) generation of stable, highly luminescent color centers in nanodiamond, (2) optical characterization of the new materials.

What is the major research question?
Describe here briefly the problem to be solved by the research, the starting hypothesis, and the questions addressed by the experiments.

Generation of highly luminescent color centers in nanocrystalline diamond is still an unsolved problem. The presence of amorphous carbon and foreign atoms on the surface causes high diminution of the emitted light. Removal of these impurities is possible with mechanical and chemical methods.
I would like to work out a new method to generate stable, highly luminescent color centers in nanocrystalline diamond. Through the optimization of the method I will analyze the effect of treatment with different gases and ion energies on the electronic states in band gap.

What is the significance of the research?
Describe the new perspectives opened by the results achieved, including the scientific basics of potential societal applications. Please describe the unique strengths of your proposal in comparison to your domestic and international competitors in the given field.

Generation of highly luminescent color centers in nanocrystalline diamond is still an unsolved problem. Development and optimization of a simple method, allowing doping nanodiamond grains or thin films with metal ions, has great importance in the nanodiamond science.
Nanocrystalline diamond has advantageous optical properties, making it a promising material for a wide range of different applications. Stable, highly luminescent color centers formed by implantation of metallic ions make it eligible for quantum and nanoscale imaging technology.
Biological or medical application of these materials could be realized too, because the photoluminescence of some color centers falls into the transparent optical window of living tissues.

Summary and aims of the research for the public
Describe here the major aims of the research for an audience with average background information. This summary is especially important for NRDI Office in order to inform decision-makers, media, and others.

Optically activ defect centers generated in condensed materials have excellent application opportunities in the field of quantum computers and cryptography. Diamond is especially promising material in this field, because it could have color centers suitable for one-photon generation. Actually diamond is the only material, in which stable, one-photon emitting color centers can be made at room temperatures. Application of the fluorescent nanodiamond in biomarkers in biology, medicine and other fields is one of the main directions in the nanophysics. Creation of structures having intense photoluminescence band related to the zero-phonon emission has not been solved yet in several ten nanometer sized nanodiamond grains, and this is a very important research problem. In my research program I would like to produce nanocrystalline diamond having narrow photoluminescence bands using implantation with external impurities and application of different treatments, as well as to perform detailed optical characterisation of the new materials.

A nanogyémántban létrehozott színcentrumokhoz köthető emisszió számos alkalmazási lehetőségeket rejt magában a kvantum technológia és az orvosbiológia területén. Azonban olyan színcentrumok kialakítása nanogyémántban, melyek stabil, intenzív, keskeny sávú lumineszcenciát mutatnak szobahőmérsékleten, technológiailag nem egyszerű feladat. Kutatómunkám során igazoltam, hogy a különböző alacsony energiás implantációs módszerek (PIII, FIB), utólagos komplex hőkezelési eljárásokkal kombinálva, alkalmasak nitrogén-tartalmú színcentrumok előállítására nanogyémánt szemcsékben.

Nanodiamond with light emitting color centers is a promising material for different high quality applications, such as quantum technology or nanoscale biomedicine. Formation of color centers with stable, intensive and narrow-band luminescence in nanodiamond grains is still a technological challenge for research groups. Creation of a nitrogen-related color center with relatively intensive and narrow emission band near the deep blue wavelength region in nanodiamond particles was realized. We have demonstrated that the low energy implantation techniques (PIII, FIB) combined with complex heat treatments is suitable for creation of a nitrogen-vacancy complex center. The observed emission band at 415 nm can be identified as the emission of the N3 optical center. Creation of previously undocumented Ni-Si related complex center in nanodiamond grains under MW CVD growth process was performed. This complex center is responsible for the near-infrared emission at 865 nm at room temperature. This color center is highly significant in the field of biological and medical applications, since its excitation and emission wavelength range is lying in the near-infrared window of biological tissue. The dependence of the SiV photoluminescence features on substrate temperature and CH4/H2 ratio were analyzed in correlation with structural properties of CVD-grown nanodiamond layer. It was found that the deposition parameters have leading role in the emission parameters of the SiV color center.
