Summary in Hungarian
A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései szakemberek számára
Itt írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit a témában jártas szakember számára.

A Cseh Irodalmi Múzeum levéltára, a Památník národního písemnictví (PNP) Közép-Európa egyik legjelentősebb irodalmi levéltára. Gyűjteményében a 19-20. század összes jelentős cseh irodalmi, tudományos személyiségének, irodalmi, művelődési egyesületének iratanyaga megtalálható. Kutatásunk célja, hogy feltárja a PNP levéltárának anyagából a cseh-magyar művelődési, irodalmi és tudományos kapcsolatokat dokumentáló, eddig gyakorlatilag ismeretlen, tízezernyi levéltári dokumentumot, levelezést, kéziratokat és nyomtatványokat. A kutatás során a levéltár teljes, a prágai, a Staré Hrady-i és duchcovi raktárakban elhelyezett anyagát feldolgoznánk.
A kutatás eredményeként megvalósuló, háromnyelvű - cseh, magyar és angol - bevezetővel ellátott repertórium elektronikus formában jut el a magyar, a cseh és más külföldi tudományos intézményekbe és a szélesebb közvéleményhez. A megvalósuló kiadvány segítené egyrészt a cseh-szlovák-magyar kapcsolattörténettel és a térség történelmével, irodalomtörténetével, művelődéstörténetével foglalkozó szakemberek munkáját és a nemzeti ébredés korától a 20. század derekáig a térség fejlődését vizsgáló kutatók eligazodását a levéltári anyagban, másrészt új, eddig ismeretlen, ám alapvető jelentőségű forrásokat tárna fel a 19-20. század vonatkozásában, nem csak a cseh-magyar, hanem a cseh-szlovák-magyar történelmi, művelődéstörténeti és irodalomtörténeti kapcsolatokban is.

Mi a kutatás alapkérdése?
Ebben a részben írja le röviden, hogy mi a kutatás segítségével megválaszolni kívánt probléma, mi a kutatás kiinduló hipotézise, milyen kérdéseket válaszolnak meg a kísérletek.

A közép-európai nemzetek történelmének meghatározó időszaka a 19.

Mi a kutatás jelentősége?

A Hungarikumok repertóriumának összeállítása azonban rávilágítana a PNP gyűjteményének a térségben magyar vonatkozásban is egyedülálló gazdagságára, a feltárandó, eddig ismeretlen, több ezernyi dokumentum bemutatása pedig rendkívül ösztönözné a további kutatásokat.

A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára
Ebben a fejezetben írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit alapműveltséggel rendelkező laikusok számára.

A két nemzet tudósai, tudományos szervezetei élénk szakmai kapcsolatban is álltak egymással.
Summary
Summary of the research and its aims for experts
Describe the major aims of the research for experts.

The Literary Archives of Museum of the Czech Literature - Památník národního písemnictví (PNP) is one of the most significant literary archives of Central Europe. Its collection contains written materials from all significant Czech literary and scientific individuals, literary and cultural associations. The aim of our research is to reveal those tens of thousands of documents, correspondences, manuscripts and prints in the PNP documenting Czech-Hungarian cultural, literary and scientific relations that have been so far practically unknown. During the research we intend to work up the complete fonds of the PNP's stacks in Prague, Staré Hrady and Duchov.
The result of the research will be an electronic repertorium with introduction in three languages - Czech, English and Hungarian - that will be spread in Czech, Hungarian and foreign scientific institutions and will be also available for the broader public. This publication will be useful for experts researching Czech-Slovak-Hungarian historic contacts, the history, literary history and cultural history of the region from the age of the national awakening to mid 20th century on the one hand and could reveal new, so far unknown but extremely important materials in connection with the 19th and 20th centuries not only in Czech-Hungarian but also in Czech-Slovak-Hungarian relations in history, cultural history and literary history.

What is the major research question?
Describe here briefly the problem to be solved by the research, the starting hypothesis, and the questions addressed by the experiments.

The 19th and the 20th Centuries are of key importance in the history of Central European nations. This is the period when the modern Czech and Hungarian societies were shaped. Their histories have been connected to each other by many ties; one might observe the desire to learn from each other but also rivalry on the other. The intelligentsias of the two nations were open toward each other and were often translating each other's texts. For research work in the Literary Archives of Museum of the Czech Literature (PNP) there are at disposal inventories of Russian, Jugoslavian, Polish and German documents. The Hungarian inventory (Hungarica) has not been completed so far, even though it is a known fact that writers and scolars from both nations have been in close relations with each other, they have been translating each other's works, have been interested in each other's culture, history, public life and at turning points have been eager to shape our relations. The situation of the Slovaks in Hungary and, after 1918 the Hungarians in Czechoslovakia have also played an important role in the relations between the intelligentsias. On these contacts we have information mostly from secondary sources. Therefore the repertorium of the hungarica including also the so far unprocessed source materials of the PNP could reveal important aspects of the international ties in connection with Hungarian scholarly life (esp. in Humanities and Social Sciences) and also the Czech aspects of Hungarian culture in the 19th and 20th centuries, in the age of national awakening, the reform age, neo-absolutism, dualist Monarchy, in the period between the two World Wars and after WW II.

What is the significance of the research?
Describe the new perspectives opened by the results achieved, including the scientific basics of potential societal applications. Please describe the unique strengths of your proposal in comparison to your domestic and international competitors in the given field.

Collecting hungarica from one of the most significant archives of Central Europe would ease the deeper understanding of Czech-Hungarian cultural relations and could reveal the further impact of these relations. The research would reveal thousands of so far unknown archived documents foremost from the personal fonds of Czech writers, scholars in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences and from the materials of Czech scholarly societies and associations. These valuable materials could provide answers to many questions in connection to the development of Czech-Hungarian relations during the two centuries. There are already researchers interested in the so far known hungarica (for example in the materials of František Brábek, lecturer at the Prague University, organiser of literary and cultural relations at the turn of the 19th and 20th Centuries and translator of Petőfi, Arany, Madách and Mikszáth). However, the relations between Czech and Hungarian writers and scholars reflecting upon each other’s developments and also on our common history alongside with the contacts of scientific and literary organisations have not yet been thoroughly researched. The main reason for this is that not even the existence of the source material is known. The compilation of the repertorium would shed light on the unique richness of the materials of the PNP even with respect to Hungarians and the presentation of the several thousands of documents could boost further research.

Summary and aims of the research for the public
Describe here the major aims of the research for an audience with average background information. This summary is especially important for NRDI Office in order to inform decision-makers, media, and others.

Czechs and Hungarians lived together in a common state, the Habsburg Empire, for nearly four centuries starting from 1526, and were neighbors from 1918 until the last decade of the 20th Century. The developments of the two nations were connected to each other with thousands of ties, not to mention the facts that before 1918 Czech intelligentsia was paying attention to the situation of the Slovaks in Hungary, while after 1918 the Hungarians were concerned with the fate of Hungarians in Czechoslovakia. Scholars and scientific organizations of the two nations were often in close working relationship.
The archives of the Czech Literary Museum (Památník národního písemnictví, PNP) is one of the richest literary archives in Central Europe. Its collection includes personal files, correspondences of Czech writers, literary historians, scholars and documents of literary and scholarly associations. Our research intends to publish these archived documents referring to Hungarians and Hungary and in an electronic repertorium. As significant part of the materials in PNP is so far unprocessed, research could shed light to so far unknown documents of Czech-Hungarian relations while drawing attention to hidden moments of scientific, literary and historic contacts in the 19th and 20th Centuries, from the age of national awakening to the post-war period. The results of the research thus can be the starting point of further researches of primary importance.

Final report

Results in Hungarian
A Hungarikumok a Cseh Irodalmi Múzeum Levéltárában című kutatási projektünk keretében a Levéltárban őrzött fondokat, cseh, szlovák és más írók, tudósok, művészeti és tudományos szervezetek, kiadóvállalatok levéltári iratanyagát vizsgáltuk. A levéltári fondok vizsgálata, az alapkutatás több éven át tartott, teljes mértékben 2017 elejére fejeződött be. Az iratanyag feldolgozottsága igen eltérő volt, a rendezett, levéltári segédlettel rendelkező anyagok mellett nagy számban találkoztunk csak részben feldolgozott iratállománnyal is. Az Irodalmi Múzeum vezetőinek engedélyével a nagy mennyiségű, eddig feldolgozatlan, a kutatók által hozzáférhetetlen iratanyagot is kutathattuk, leírhattuk. Kutatómunkánkat az Irodalmi Levéltár prágai központi kutatóhelyén, két - időközben bezárt - vidéki raktárában (Duchcovban és Staré Hradyban), illetve az előbbi két raktár helyett létesült új, litoměřicei levéltári raktárban, kutatóhelyen végeztük. A pályázat utolsó évében a hungarika anyagot leíró repertórium anyagának ellenőrzése zajlott. A repertórium anyagának összeállítása, ellenőrzése, a hungarika repertórium szerkesztése a pályázat végére lezárult.
Results in English
In the framework of our research project the researchers studied the archival material of Czech, Slovak and other writers, scientists, artistic and scientific organizations, publishing companies etc at the Archive of the Museum of Czech Literature. The research of archivalias, the basic research, lasted for several years in the first part of the research project, was fully completed by the beginning of 2017. The degree of arrange of the archival materials was very different, besides the arranged, described archival materials, we have also met a large number of only partially descibed records too and we could study also for large quantities of not yet arranged archival documents, with the permission of the Literary Museum. Our research was carried out in the central reading room and storage of the Archive in Prague and in three other archival storage, in Duchcov, Staré Hrady and Litoměřice. In the last year of the project, were controlled and corrected the Hungarica archive materials. The compilation, review and edit of the material of the Hungarica collection was completed at the end of the project. The further research will greatly help that as the result of our projects was signed an international cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University and the Archive of the Museum of Czech Literature and under this contract, the Archives provides a permanent research facility for the Hungarian university researchers.
