A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései szakemberek számára
Itt írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit a témában jártas szakember számára.

A sírt a későbbiek során, a 20., 21., 22., 26., 27. és 30. dinasztia időszakában is temetkezőhelyként használták. A másodlagos családi temetkezések számára új sírkamrákat véstek a sír alsó részében, amelyek a Kr. e. 4. századig használatban maradtak.
A terepen folytatott munka korábban OTKA támogatásban részesült (K 73157).

Mi a kutatás alapkérdése?

Mi a kutatás jelentősége?

Ahogy ott, úgy ebben a kötetben is a további vizsgálatok alapját a tárgyak tipo-kronológiai elemzése képezi, amely stabil alapot képezhet a különböző korokból származó leletanyag elkülönítésére. I. évezredben (is) meghatározó módon a családi temetkezés volt. Bár az újbirodalmi sírok építése jellemzően egy emberhez köthető, a sírok nagy része már a következő generáció idején csoporttemetkezéseknek adott otthont. A címek elemzése az egyiptomi adminisztrációval és a thébai Amun-templom hierarchiájával foglalkozók számára lehet fontos, a régészeti anyag vizsgálata pedig számos új példa elemzését nyújtja – elsősorban a késő-ramesszida időszak, a késői Harmadik Átmeneti Kor és a Perzsa-kor kutatói számára. A 20. dinasztia tekintetében a -61- sz. sziklasírból származó anyag a legjelentősebb kortárs leletcsoportok között említhető, amely jól mutatja, hogyan nézhetett ki a középrétegre jellemző thébai temetkezési szett III. és talán IV. Ramszesz korában. A 26-27. dinasztiák korából származó anyag szintén kiemelkedő jelentőségűnek nevezhető.
Az összes tárgy dokumentációját tartalmazó kötet annak a meggyőződésnek ad hangot, hogy a thébai sírok történetének integráns részét képezik a másodlagos felhasználás emlékei, amelyek tanulmányozása kulcsfontosságú a későkori egyiptomi vallás, művészet és társadalom megértéséhez.

A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára
Ebben a fejezetben írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit alapműveltséggel rendelkező laikusok számára.

Summary
Summary of the research and its aims for experts
Describe the major aims of the research for experts.

The Theban tomb of Amenhotep (TT -61-) dating to reign of Ramesses III was excavated by the Department of Egyptology, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest between 1999 and 2008. The tomb had been discovered by Mohamed Saleh, director of the Egyptian Museum, in 1969, however, the clearing of the whole structure awaited until 1999 when the Hungarian Archaeological Mission asked for and gained a concession to fully explore this largely unknown tomb, rediscovered only a year before. The Hungarian excavations have uncovered the entire complex of TT -61-, originally cut into the bedrock in the 18th Dynasty but decorated only in the 20th Dynasty by Amenhotep, who also added a sloping passage 23 m long and a burial chamber to the tomb. After the Ramesside burials had been deposited in TT -61-, the tomb became reused by a number of new intruders between the 20th and 30th Dynasties, well down to the 4th century BC.
The fieldwork in TT -61- has received financial support from the Hungarian National Scientific Research Fund (Grant. No. K 73157). The aim of the present project is to help realize the monograph which gives a comprehensive analysis of the archaeological finds excavated in TT -61-. The material is organised first by chronology, then by context and type. The subsequent phases of occupation are described in analytic essays, whilst the architectural description, the problems of dating, the prosopographic data and the history of the site and excavation are dealt with in separate chapters. The illustrations include all maps, plans, sections and elevations, as well as the photos of archaeological features and all archaeological finds.

What is the major research question?
Describe here briefly the problem to be solved by the research, the starting hypothesis, and the questions addressed by the experiments.

The scholarly interest in Theban tombs of the New Kingdom has so far been restricted almost exclusively to the primary use-life of these tombs, despite the fact that most such tombs can undoubtedly be shown to have been reused and turned in group burial places during the First Millennium BC. The main goal of the present monograph is to give a comprehensive analysis of the subsequent phases of occupation detected in Theban Tomb -61-, with a special emphasis on the question of the reuse of the sacred space. Out of the burial assemblages identified in TT -61-, special attention is given to the burial ensemble of Amenhotep and his family dating to the reign of Ramesses III, the equipment of the Libyan Period Ankhefenamun family, and the Saito-Persian burials. All these interments were group burials belonging to different families, whose members invariably belonged to a mid-ranking class of local officers. Given that finds dating from the 20th, 22nd and 27th Dynasties predominate in the corpus, special emphasis is laid on the discussion of the material belonging with these periods less-known in terms of funerary art. Based on the analytic and comparative study of the finds uncovered in TT -61-, the history of the tomb, ranging in date from the 15th century BC to Late Antiquity, can be convincingly reconstructed.

What is the significance of the research?
Describe the new perspectives opened by the results achieved, including the scientific basics of potential societal applications. Please describe the unique strengths of your proposal in comparison to your domestic and international competitors in the given field.

The methodology applied in this volume follows that of the monograph on the nearby tomb of Djehutymes (TT 32), published by the author in 2008. This methodology relies heavily on the typo-chronology of the individual object, which may present a sound basis for establishing sequences and defining the subsequent phases of occupation. Finds are on the other hand are also considered as elements of the burial assemblage. The archaeological material excavated in TT -61- may be split into 6 broad groups corresponding to the subsequent phases of occupation, ranging in date from the 18th Dynasty to the 30th Dynasty. Based on the analysis of this material as well as the finds post-dating the Pharaonic Period, the monograph aims to give a historical outline for TT -61-. It is shown that the multiple re-use of a tomb, such is the case with TT -61-, must have been more widespread in the First Millennium BC than hitherto believed. It is moreover argued that the driving force behind tomb-reuse was always the need to find proper burial places for group interments which, in most cases, were family burials. The monograph also offers a discussion of the administrative and priestly titles represented, whilst the sections on the archaeology present the entire corpus, in which the finds of the late Ramesside Period, the Libyan Period and the Saito-Persian Period predominate. The burial equipment of Amenhotep and his family dating from the reigns of Ramesses III and IV may attract current research for it gives a graphic illustration of what a mid-ranking burial looked in the late Ramesside Period. The Saito-Persian burials discovered in TT -61- are also worth of note, especially since the Egyptian pottery and the Greek import amphorae found in association with them offer important chronological anchors for defining this phase of Theban funerary art in more detail than before.
The overall analysis argues in favour of regarding the tombs’ secondary use-life as an integral part of the history of Theban tombs, whose study is of key importance to gain a better understanding of late Egyptian religion, art and society.

Summary and aims of the research for the public
Describe here the major aims of the research for an audience with average background information. This summary is especially important for NRDI Office in order to inform decision-makers, media, and others.

The tomb of the chief physician Amenhotep was excavated by a Hungarian expedition of Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest at Thebes, near modern Luxor between 1999 and 2008. The construction of the rock-cut tomb, consisting of forecourts, tomb chapels and burial shafts, was commenced in the 15th century BC but completed and decorated only four centuries later, when Amenhotep, head of a college of healers in the local Amun temple and priest of the goddess Mut, gained ownership rights over the half-finished monument. Following the interments of Amenhotep and his wife Mutemheb dating to the last decades of the New Kingdom, the tomb was reused by a number of new owners over the First Millennium BC, including Amenhotep’s offspring, a priestly family at about the turning of the 9th-8th centuries BC, and three further families, whose members lived and happened to die at Thebes in the period when Egypt came under the sway of Persian rule. The Hungarian expedition uncovered the remains of well over 100 burials that had been laid to rest with thousands of grave goods.
The volume to be published gives a full and comprehensive description and analysis of the findings. Illustrated with fac-simile line drawings and photos of the features and the objects uncovered, the monograph is intended to be the definite summary of the digs in the tomb of Amenhotep.
