A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései szakemberek számára Itt írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit a témában jártas szakember számára. A régész szerzőpáros a Kalocsai Sárköz területén belül található 10-11. századra datálható 16 lelőhelyét (temetőit, sírjait), illetve ezek leletanyagát dolgozta fel. A pályázat célja a K84159-es számú Magyarország honfoglalás kori és Árpád-kori sírleletei című projekt során elkészült ötödik kézirat, azaz egy régészeti és történeti szempontból is rendkívül fontos terület és időszak anyagát feldolgozó kötet, Gallina Zsolt–Varga Sándor: A Kalocsai Sárköz 10–11. századi sír- és kincsleletei című munkájának nyomdai kiadása, s ezáltal a Kárpát-medence 10-11. századi történetének jobb megismerése.
Mi a kutatás alapkérdése? Ebben a részben írja le röviden, hogy mi a kutatás segítségével megválaszolni kívánt probléma, mi a kutatás kiinduló hipotézise, milyen kérdéseket válaszolnak meg a kísérletek. A kutatás a Kalocsai Sárköz területének 10-11. századi történetére - mint alapkérdésre - szeretne fényt deríteni, olyan kérdések tisztázásával, mint a térség természeti és történeti földrajzi meghatározottsága, az avar továbbélés kérdése, a magyar honfoglalók beköltözésének kérdései, a 10-11. századi anyagi kultúra (tárgyak, temetkezési szokások stb.) tipológiai kérdései, illetve a térség településtörténete annak előzményeivel, a terület településhálózata, valamint Árpád-kori templomos helyeinek kérdése.
Mi a kutatás jelentősége? Röviden írja le, milyen új perspektívát nyitnak az alapkutatásban az elért eredmények, milyen társadalmi hasznosíthatóságnak teremtik meg a tudományos alapját. Mutassa be, hogy a megpályázott kutatási területen lévő hazai és a nemzetközi versenytársaihoz képest melyek az egyediségei és erősségei a pályázatának! A Kalocsai Sárköz egy zárt és sajátos tájegység, ami természeti és történeti földrajzi helyzetéből fakad, kiemelt jelentősége miatt fontos szerepet kapott ennek megvilágítása. A raktári, adattári, levéltári és szakirodalmi kutatások révén nemcsak a lelőhelyek helyszínének vagy a leletek előkerülésének körülményei kerültek tisztázásra, de minden egyes tárgy lemérésével és leírásával, valamint tipológiai rendszerezésével minden 10-11. századra datálható lelet minden fontos elemzési szempont bevonásával közlésre került. Ezeken túl, további szerzők bevonásával megtörtént a temetők embertani arculatának bemutatása, fontos eredményekkel (avar továbbélés bizonyítása stb.). Különösen fontos kiemelni, hogy a térség legnagyobb sírszámú és teljesen feltárt temetője (Homokmégy-Székes) fémanyagának jelentős részét megvizsgáltattuk archeometriai és archeometallurgiai szempontból. Fontos kérdésekre kaptunk ezáltal választ (készítés-technológia, pontos anyagmeghatározás a ránézésre történő régészeti meghatározás helyett stb.), ami irányt mutathat hasonló elemzések számára és elkerülhetők vele alapvető tévedések. Kiemelhetjük a honfoglaló és kora Árpád-kori lelőhelyek viszonyát, kapcsolatát a korábbi avar, illetve a későbbi Árpád-kori időszak lelőhelyeivel és nem utolsó sorban a tájegység több korszakot érintő településtörténetét. Szerencsés és egyedülálló, valamint előremutató, hogy a térség közel kétharmada bejárt a régészeti topográfia módszerével. Ezáltal a településtörténet alaposabb megvilágításba kerül, fontos válaszokat kapunk a temetők és a települések viszonyáról. Nem lehet kellően hangsúlyozni, hogy a térség és az időszak a magyar történelem szempontjából milyen fontos.
A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára Ebben a fejezetben írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit alapműveltséggel rendelkező laikusok számára. Ez az összefoglaló a döntéshozók, a média, illetve az érdeklődők tájékoztatása szempontjából különösen fontos az NKFI Hivatal számára. A fő célkitűzés a Kárpát-medence és a magyarság régmúltjának jobb megismerése és megértése, ezáltal hazánk szellemi vagyonának gyarapítása. A korai magyar történelem szempontjából rendkívül fontos Kalocsa környéki régió honfoglalás kori és kora Árpád-kori régészeti anyagának teljes felgyűjtése készült el, lehetőség szerint minden vizsgálati módszer bevonásával. A kötetben összegyűjtött és értékelt adatok egyértelművé teszik a magyar honfoglalás és államalapítás kiemelkedő szerepét a régió és az ország történetében. Ezáltal mind a régészet és a történettudomány, mind az oktatás, mind pedig a közéleti érdeklődés számára publikálásra és megértésre alkalmassá kívántuk tenni a honfoglalók és az Árpádok világát. A fentiek miatt nagyon fontos lenne e kötet megjelentetése, amely igyekszik reális és valós képet festeni a terület 10-11. századi történetéről, anyagi és szellemi kultúrájáról.
Summary
Summary of the research and its aims for experts Describe the major aims of the research for experts. The authors have carried out a comprehensive analysis of cemeteries, burials and their artifact assemblages recovered from 16 sites dating to the 10th and 11th centuries in the Kalocsa Sárköz. The current proposal seeks funding to publish a book entitled „10–11th century grave findings and treasure finds of Kalocsai Sárköz”. The manuscript is the fifth contribution to the 'Grave-goods of Hungary from the Age of the Hungarian Landtaking and the Early Arpadians' project (Project ID: K84159), and focuses on a remarkably important territory in both archaeological and historical terms in order to provide a better understanding of the history of the 10th and 11th centuries in the Carpathian Basin. The manuscript is complete, and partially edited. The PUB-K grant would cover the pre-press preparation and printing costs.
What is the major research question? Describe here briefly the problem to be solved by the research, the starting hypothesis, and the questions addressed by the experiments. The primary goal of our research is to understand the history of the Kalocsa Sárköz during the 10-11th centuries. Major research questions include the environmental and historical geographical attributes of the region, the continuity of Avar population, issues associated with the immigration of Hungarians, the characteristics of the material culture (artifacts, mortuary practices, etc.) and typology, and their modifications over time, long-term tendencies in regional settlement history and networks through archaeological topography, as well as matters related to Árpádian Age churches. By means of proper methodologies these questions can be studied.
What is the significance of the research? Describe the new perspectives opened by the results achieved, including the scientific basics of potential societal applications. Please describe the unique strengths of your proposal in comparison to your domestic and international competitors in the given field. Owing to peculiar environmental and historical geographical characteristics, the Kalocsa Sárköz is a well-defined and distinctive geographical unit. Utilizing data from museum collections, inventories, archives and publications, the locations of archaeological sites and the circumstances of their discoveries were determined, and all of the artifacts dating to the 10th and 11th centuries were measured, described, and typologically analyzed. Additionally, physical anthropological studies were conducted by specialists that gave rise to outstanding results (e.g., confirmation of the continuity of Avar population). It is particularly important to note that a significant part of the metal assemblage recovered from the largest and completely excavated cemetery of the region, Homokmégy-Székes, was subject to archaeometrical and archaeometallurgical investigations. These analyses provide answers to an array of vital questions (e.g., manufacturing techniques and scientific vs. 'naked-eye' raw material analysis). Moreover, these investigations set an example for similar studies in which fundamental mistakes can be avoided in the future. Other significant results from this research include the determination of the relationship between the Conquest Period and the Árpádian Age sites, their relations to the earlier Avar and the late Árpádian Age sites, and the elaboration of a multi-period settlement history of the region. It is unique and exemplary that nearly two-thirds of the region has been surface surveyed. By using this dataset, the regional settlement history can efficiently be studied to shed light on the spatial relationships between cemeteries and settlements. It cannot be overemphasized how important the studied region and period are in Hungarian history.
Summary and aims of the research for the public Describe here the major aims of the research for an audience with average background information. This summary is especially important for NRDI Office in order to inform decision-makers, media, and others. Our major goal is to get a more nuanced understanding of the ancient past of the Hungarians and the Carpathian Basin in order to contribute to the growth of the spiritual and cultural heritage of our country. A complete inventory of the archaeological heritage of the Hungarian Conquest Period and the early Árpádian Age has been conducted focusing on the surroundings of Kalocsa. This region played a very important role in early Hungarian history. The implementation of a wide variety of analytical methods ensured the scientific objectivity of our research. The collected and analyzed data confirm the outstanding role of the Hungarian conquest and the establishment of the Hungarian state in the history of the region and the country. This book provides an objective perspective of the history and the material and intellectual culture of the study region during the 10th and 11th centuries. We sought to compile the book not only for archaeologists and historians, but also to render the world of the early Hungarians and the Árpáds understandable for educational purposes and for the general public. In order to achieve these goals, the publication of this volume is extremely important.

A pályázatunk (PUB-K 117197) célja a K84159-es számú „Magyarország honfoglalás kori és kora Árpád-kori sírleletei” kutatási projektünk keretében elkészült ötödik monográfia: Gallina Zsolt és Varga Sándor „A Kalocsai Sárköz a 10-11. században" című munkájának megjelentetése volt. (A fő pályázatunk témája a Kárpát-medence honfoglalás kori és kora Árpád-kori sírleleteit feldolgozó korpusz-sorozat munkálatainak folytatását és kiterjesztését foglalja magában. A kutatás során újabb rendkívüli fontosságú térségek leletanyagát dolgoztuk fel: így Erdély, a Partium és a Bánság; a nyíri Mezőség, valamint a tiszalúci temető és a Taktaköz, Győr és Moson megye, valamint a Kalocsai Sárköz hasonló korú leletanyagát). Gallina Zsolt és Varga Sándor kötete (pp 435, 145 tábla ISBN 978-963-306-495-5) kijött a nyomdából, a vállalt feladatot tehát sikerrel teljesítettük. A kötetből a következő intézményeknek küldtünk példányokat: ELTE Központi Könyvtár, ELTE Régészeti Intézet Könyvtára, SZTE Központi Könyvtár (Klebersberg Könyvtár), SZTE Régészeti Tanszéki Könyvtár, Miskolci Egyetem Központi Könyvtár, PTE Központi Könyvtár, PTE Régészeti Tanszéki Könyvtár, DE Központi Könyvtár, PPKE Központi Könyvtár, PPKE Régészeti Tanszéki Könyvtár, KRE Központi Könyvtár, MNM Könyvtára, MTA Könyvtára, MTA BTK Régészeti Intézetének Könyvtára. The aim of our tender is the publication of the fifth finished monography „The Sárköz of Kalocsa in the 10th–11th century” by Zsolt Gallina and Sándor Varga of our project (Grave-goods of Hungary from the Age of the Hungarian Landtaking and the Early Arpadians). The topic of our research involves the continuation and extension of the works of the corpus-series on the archaeological grave goods from the period of the Hungarian Conquest and the Early Arpadian Age in the Carpathian Basin. We do research on new important areas, like Transylvania, the „nyíri Mezőség”, the cemeteries of Tiszalúc and the „Taktaköz”, Győr and Moson County and the Sárköz of Kalocsa). Zsolt Gallina’s and Sándor Varga's book has out of print (pp 435, 145 tables, ISBN 978-963-306-495-5), so we have completed the task successfully. We have sent copies of this book to the following institutes: Library of ELTE, Library of the Dep. of Arch. of ELTE, Library of Univ. of Szeged, Library of the Dep. of Arch. of Univ. of Szeged, Library of Univ. of Miskolc, Library of Univ. of Pécs, Library of the Dep. of Arch. of Univ. of Pécs, Library of Univ. of Debrecen, Library of Pázmány P.
