A homo oeconomicus racionális.

The ‘homo oeconomicus’ is rational. In our current research, we studied how to model the - irrational according to the classical economic interpretation - behavior characterized by the non-standard time preferences of the individuals under investigation. We illustrate the methods that can be used to model the self-interested, profit-maximizing decision-maker who sometimes - after a certain period of time - changes her mind, i.e. makes intertemporally inconsistent decisions. We present the naive as well as the sophisticated decision-maker and show that both forms of behavior can be modelled by incorporating the same hyperbolic discounting formula, but while the naive consumer looks ahead, the sophisticated one already uses a kind of rollback.
We derive a three-period extension of the CAPM asset pricing model and show that the market results in a Pareto efficient allocation.
As a combination of the two branches described above, we prove that the CAMP pricing equation remains true even if the agents in the three-period finance economy are not rational, but naive or sophisticated ones.
