A kutatás során feltérképezésre került a képviselet kérdéskörének több dimenziója. Az intézményi meghatározottság vizsgálata igazolta, hogy a képviselet egyik kiemelt területén, a parlamentben szűkültek a képviselet intézményi keretei és lehetőségei. A parlamenti munkát a kormányzat dominálja, mind jogi mind gyakorlati értelemben, így a képviselet csak ennek árnyékában értelmezhető mind a kormányzati, mint az ellenzéki oldalon. A képviseleti kérdések kiemelt alesetének tekinthető női képviseletre vonatkozó eredmények is belesimulnak a fenti képbe, hiszen a deskriptív képviselet és tartalmi, szubsztantív képviselet is gyengül.
A képviselet másik oldalán, az állampolgárokra vonatkozóan beigazolódott, hogy a képviselet csak kontextusban értelmezhető, így például eltérő szituációkban más érdekek és vélemények képviseletét várják az állampolgárok. A kutatás egyik kiemelt eredménye, hogy ennek feltérképezésére egy innovatív, kísérleti kérdőíves kutatási módszert alkalmazott, ami a tartalmi eredményeken túl módszertani tanulságokkal is szolgál a magyar politikatudomány számára.
A kutatási idején megjelenő kihívások ellenére a kutatás sikeresnek tekinthető, hiszen a tudományos eredmények gazdagították a képviseletről alkotott tudásanyagot, nemzetközi összehasonlításra is alkalmasak illetve publikálásuk nemzetközi figyelemre is számot tartott.

Within the framework of the research, several dimensions of representation were analyzed. The evaluation of the institutional context of representation documented that in the parliamentary arena the opportunity structure is diminishing due to the de-institualization process. The parliamentary area is dominated by the government both in the legal and in the practical sense, thus representation can only take place in this shadow both on the government and the opposition side. Regarding women's representation, which is a critical dimension of representation, the results reflect the same tendencies as both the descriptive and the substantive representation is weakening.
On the other side of the representation process, which is the citizen's point of view, the research results support the assumption that representation is highly contextualized. In different situations, citizens have different expectations regarding representation. One of the major accomplishment of the research is that the contextual nature of representation was mapped out due to the application of an innovative survey-experiment methodology that can offer methodological lessons as well.
Despite the challenging times during which the research was realized, it can be deemed successful, since its results enriched our academic knowledge of representation, the produced data is suitable for international comparison and the results were published in high quality international journals.
