Summary in Hungarian
A projekt keretében támogatott nemzetközi tudományos/innovációs rendezvény bemutatása

Jelen pályázatunkat a konferencia lebonyolítására kívánjuk benyújtani.
Munkái óriási hatással voltak a fraktálgeometria területére.
A konferencia fő célja új kutatási kapcsolatok létrehozása, a meglévők fejlesztése a geometriai mértékelmélet, valószínűségszámítás és dinamikai rendszerek területének szakértői között, lehetőséget teremtve eszmecserére, valamint új, érdekes problémák kitűzésére. Ennek érdekében a terület legnevesebb nemzetközi képviselőit hívtuk meg, M. Dekking, K. Falconer, D.-J. Feng, M. Hochman, T. Jordan, Komjáthy J., P. Mattila, M. Pollicott, F. Przytycki, P. Raith, P. Shmerkin, B. Solomyak, K. Taylor and M. Urbański. A program középpontjában a meghívott előadók 45 perces előadásai állnak.

A projekt összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára

A matematikus közösségben különösen fontos a személyes találkozás időről időre konferenciákon.

Summary
Presentation of the international scientific/innovation event supported in the project
Present the type, purpose, agenda, targeted audience, and significance of the international event organized in the international and domestic scientific community.

We intend to organise a mathematical workshop from 27th June to 1st July 2022 on the topic of fractal geometry. The preparations have already begun, like the invitation of the main speakers and setting up the webpage. We are submitting the recent application for the implementation part.
The occasion of the even is the 61st birthday of Károly Simon, who is a well known Hungarian mathematician, author of more than 50 articles written with several co-authors. His works had immense impact on the field of fractal geometry.
The main goal of the workshop is to improve the existing connections and to build new ones between scientists working in geometric measure theory, probability theory and dynamical systems, to exchange knowledge and to post new interesting problems. In the interest of that, we invited the top international researchers of the field, M. Dekking, K. Falconer, D.-J. Feng, M. Hochman, T. Jordan, J. Komjáthy, P. Mattila, M. Pollicott, F. Przytycki, P. Raith, P. Shmerkin, B. Solomyak, K. Taylor and M. Urbański. The 45 minutes long talks of the main speakers play the central role of the program. This is not unusual on mathematical workshops and allow the deeper understanding. In addition, we would like to provide space for young researchers with short 20 minutes talks.
The event may not only be attractive to Hungarian researchers, but it may also attract international attention. We expect 50 participants, which counts as a mid-sized workshop on the field. Predictably, at least half of them are expected from abroad. It will allow the participating young Hungarian researchers to latch on to the international bloodstream of the field, which is especially important.

Summary and aims of the project for a general audience
Provide a short, general introduction to the international event organized and its expected results.

In the community of mathematicians, it is especially important to meet time to time in person on workshops. These occasions give opportunity to learn the most recent results, exchange ideas and build new relationships. The main occasion of the workshop we are intended to organise is to celebrate in professional quarters the birthday of one of our colleague, namely, the 61st birthday of Károly Simon. Károly Simon is a well known Hungarian mathematician working in the field of fractal geometry, author of several articles, which had immense impact on this area of mathematics. Together with his PhD students he is the founder of the modern Hungarian school of fractal geometry.

For such an event, we, the organisers, invited the top international researchers of fractal geometry, who are publishing in the most recognised mathematical journals, and are co-authors or admirers of Károly Simon. It is an extraordinary occasion for the young Hungarian mathematicians to meet with the leader researchers of the field, learn new methods and exchange ideas. Also, it will allow the participating Hungarian mathematicians to increase their recognition and their level of cooperation with foreign researchers, which is especially important at this age.

We expect that at least half of the participants will come from abroad. The participants will discuss the present state-of-art knowledge, as well as formulate programs for further investigation. It will also increase the prestige of the Hungarian mathematical community and its connectedness to the rest of the mathematical world.

Results in Hungarian
A projekt keretein belül megrendezett "Geometry of deterministic and random fractals" konferenciát jelentős nemzetközi érdeklődés kísérte, melyet a 8 amerikai, a 7 ázsiai és a 30 Magyarországon kívüli európai résztvevő is igazol. Összesen 56 fő résztvevőből 37 tartott előadást. A 11 meghívott előadó 45 perces előadásai mellett, 10 darab 30 perces és 16 darab 15 perces előadásra került sor. A program összeállításakor számos jelentkező, köztük sok fiatal doktorandusz, számára biztosítottunk lehetőséget eredményeik prezentálására. A 11 meghívott előadóknak helyi költségeik térítésére 5 napra 50 euro/nap értékben napidíjat biztosítottunk. Ennek adóterhe magasabb lett, mint eredetileg terveztük, így a személyi jellegű költségek meghaladták a tervezettet. A konferencia menetrendjének kialakításánál külön hangsúlyt kapott a kapcsolatépítés. Ezt a célt szolgálták az egyes szekciók közti 30 perces kávészünetek, a székesfehérvári buszos kirándulás, illetve a Simon Károly professzor tiszteletére rendezett állófogadás. Ezek anyagi fedezetére a dologi kiadások kevesebb költséget emésztettek fel a tervezettnél, így a összköltség a kereteken belül maradt. A konferencia minden szervezője fáradozásaikért egyszeri 200 ezer forint bruttó juttatásban részesült.

In the framework of this project, the conference "Geometry of deterministic and random fractals" was of significant international interest, which is shown by the 8 American, 7 Asian and 30 European (excluding Hungary) attendees. In total, there were 56 participants, and 37 of them gave talks. In addition to the 45-minute long talks of the 11 invited speakers, there were 10 30-minute and 16 15-minute long presentations. During the program compilation, we gave the opportunity for many applicants, including a lot of young doctoral students, to present their results. On the conference's website simon60.math.bme.hu, all necessary information can be found. We gave each participant a copy of the program booklet during registration and complete it with a pen and a notepad. To cover the local expenses, we provided the 11 invited speakers with a daily fee of 50 euros/day for 5 days. The tax burden was higher than originally planned, so the personal costs exceeded the planned. In the schedule, particular emphasis was given to embracing further collaborations. The 30-minute coffee breaks between sections, the bus trip to Székesfehérvár, and the reception organized in honour of Professor Károly Simon all served this purpose. The material expenses covering these costs consumed less than planned, thus, the total cost remained within the planned limits. All organizers of the conference received a one-time HUF 200,000 gross allowance for their efforts.
