Summary in Hungarian
A projekt keretében látogatni tervezett nemzetközi tudományos/innovációs rendezvény bemutatása és a tervezett részvétel ismertetése
Mutassa be a nemzetközi rendezvény jellegét, célját, szervezőit és jelentőségét a nemzetközi tudományos életben. Ismertesse a részvétel célját (pl. előadás, poszter, egyéb aktivitás), a rendezvényen való részvétel várható hatását és jelentőségét a saját kutatói karrier építésében.

A Bécsben megrendezett EGU General Assembly az egyik legnagyobb földtudományi konferencia Európában, amelyre a tudományterület minden szegmenséből érkeznek kutatók. A konferencián poszter formájában tervezem bemutatni a doktori kutatásom legújabb eredményeit. A nemzetközi szereplés és külföldi szakemberek véleménye, javaslatai jelentősen emelhetik a doktori disszertációm színvonalát. Doktori kutatásom során a Bodai Agyagkő Formáció szerkezetfejlődését vizsgálom, amely képződmény a magyarországi nagy aktivitású radioaktív hulladéktároló potenciális befogadóképződménye. Az agyagkő retenciós tulajdonságai igen kedvezők, kis porozitása és kis permeabilitása miatt potenciálisan alkalmas a hulladéktároló befogadására. Azonban a kőzettestben jelenlévő törések és ásványerek áramlási pályaként szolgálhatnak a kőzettestben, ezért kiemelten fontos a Bodai Agyagkő töréshálózatának vizsgálata. Munkámban a területről származó BAF-2 mélyfúrásban és környezetében modelleztem a töréshálózat geometriáját, a törések fraktálgeometriai tulajdonságain alapuló, egyedi törésekből felépülő, DFN modellezési módszert használva. A fúrás hidrodinamikai adatai alapján meghatároztam a törések effektív apertúráját, amely alapján számítható a töréshálózat porozitása és permeabilitása. A töréshálózat hidrodinamikai tulajdonságai és a töréshálózat geometriája alapján, a fúrás mentén megkülönböztethetők áramlási zónák, amelyeken belül az áramlást befolyásoló tényezők egységesek. A BAF-2 fúrás töréshálózatának döntő része homogén viselkedésű, azonban három keskeny szakasz eltérő hidrodinamikai tulajdonságokkal rendelkezik. Az eltérő hidrodinamikai zónák alapján a fúrásban négy blokkot különítettünk el, amelyek eltérő diagenetikus folyamatok, valamint nagy léptékű szerkezeti határok hatására alakultak ki a BAF-2 fúrásban.

A projekt összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára

Azonban a kőzettestben jelenlévő törések potenciális áramlási pályaként szolgálhatnak, ezért kiemelten fontos a Bodai Agyagkő töréshálózatának vizsgálata. Munkámban a területről származó mélyfúrásban és annak környezetében modelleztem a töréshálózat geometriáját. A fúrás hidrodinamikai adatai alapján meghatároztam a törések valós nyitottságát, amely alapján jellemezhető a töréshálózat áramlást befolyásoló tulajdonságai. Ezek alapján a fúrásban kijelölhetők olyan szakaszok, ahol az átlagostól eltér a töréshálózat viselkedése. A kutatómunka során vizsgált fúrásban három keskeny eltérő viselkedésű zóna található, amelyeket kialakító folyamatok feltárása kiemelten fontos a jövőbeli nagy aktivitású radioaktív hulladéktároló kialakítása szempontjából.

Summary
Presentation of the international scientific/innovation event to be visited in the project and description of the proposed participation
Present the type, purpose, organizers, and significance of the international event in the scientific community. Present the purpose of the participation (e.g., paper, poster, other activity), the expected impact of the participation in the event and its significance in building your own research career.

The EGU General Assembly in Vienna is one of the largest earth science conferences in Europe, bringing together researchers from all areas of the discipline. At the conference, I plan to present the latest results of my doctoral research in the form of a poster. The international presence and the opinions and suggestions of foreign experts can significantly raise the level of my PhD thesis. In my doctoral research, I investigate the structural evolution of the Boda Claystone Formation, which is a potential host rock for the high-level radioactive waste repository in Hungary. The retention properties of claystone are very favourable, due to its low porosity and low permeability, it is potentially suitable for accommodating waste. However, the fractures and veins present in the rock body can serve as flow paths in the rock body. Therefore, it is particularly important to study the fracture network of the Boda Claystone. In my work, I modeled the geometry of the fracture network in and around the BAF-2 well using the DFN modelling method based on the fractal-like properties of the fractures. Using the hydrodynamic data of the well, the effective aperture of the fractures could be determined, from which the porosity and permeability of the fracture network can be calculated. Based on the hydrodynamic properties and geometry of the fractures, flow zones can be distinguished along the borehole within which the properties influencing the flow are uniform. Most of the fracture network of the BAF-2 well exhibits homogeneous behaviour, however, three narrow sections have different hydrodynamic properties. Based on the different hydrodynamic zones, four blocks were distinguished in the well, which were formed by different diagenetic processes as well as by the effects of large-scale structural boundaries in the BAF-2 well.

Summary and aims of the project for a general audience
Provide a short, general introduction to the international event to be visited, the purpose of the participation, and its expected results.

At the conference, I plan to present the latest results of my doctoral research in the form of a poster. The international presence and the opinions and suggestions of foreign experts can significantly raise the level of my PhD thesis. In my doctoral research, I am investigating the structural evolution of the Boda Claystone Formation, which is a potential host rock for the high-level radioactive waste repository in Hungary. The properties of claystone are favourable for waste storage as it is extremely good at inhibiting the flow of water and various contaminants. However, the fractures present in the rock body can serve as potential flow paths. Therefore, it is particularly important to study the fracture network of the Boda Claystone. In my work, I modelled the geometry of the fracture network in a borehole of the formation. Based on the hydrodynamic data of the borehole, I determined the effective aperture of the fractures, which can be used to characterize the properties of the fracture network that affect flow. Based on these, sections in the borehole can be selected where the fracture network behaviour deviates from the average. The borehole studied in the research includes three zones with strongly differing behaviour. These sections can strongly influence the planning of the future repository for high radioactive waste.

A projekt keretében lehetőségem nyílt a kutatásomat bemutatni az egyik legnagyobb földtudományi konferencián, EGU General Assembly-n, amely a Európai Földtudományi Unió éves találkozója. Kutatásomban a magyarországi nagy aktivitású radioaktív hulladéktároló befogadó képződményét, a Bodai Agyagkövet vizsgáltam. Ez a képződmény rendkívül jó szigetelő tulajdonságokkal rendelkezik, kis porozitása és kis permeabilitása van, azonban a képződményben található törések mentén fluidum áramlási pályák létrejöhetnek. Ezért kiemelten fontos a képződmény töréshálózatának vizsgálata.

Within the framework of the project, I had the opportunity to present my research at one of the largest geoscience conferences, the EGU General Assembly, which is the annual meeting of the European Geosciences Union. The Boda Claystone Formation, possible host rock for high-level nuclear waste disposal sites in Hungary, was penetrated by a well that was more than 900 meters deep. This formation has extremely good insulating properties, low porosity and low permeability, however, fluid flow paths can be created along the fractures in the formation. Therefore, it is extremely important to examine the fracture network of the formation. Fracture network modelling and a hydrological evaluation were carried out in this well. Most of the well's components behave consistently based on the hydraulic flow units and the fracture network geometry, however, three narrow zones exhibit considerable differences. The first zone is found in the well's upper 100 m and was likely created by weathering. The second zone is thought to have a large-scale structural boundary and is situated at a distance of about 400 m. The hydrological parameters of the third zone at 700 m are significantly impacted by a lithological change, although tectonic processes may also have an impact.
