A projekt keretében látogatni tervezett nemzetközi tudományos/innovációs rendezvény bemutatása és a tervezett részvétel ismertetése Mutassa be a nemzetközi rendezvény jellegét, célját, szervezőit és jelentőségét a nemzetközi tudományos életben. Ismertesse a részvétel célját (pl. előadás, poszter, egyéb aktivitás), a rendezvényen való részvétel várható hatását és jelentőségét a saját kutatói karrier építésében. Az AAG kongresszusa a geográfia legnagyobb nemzetközi tudományos eseménye, melyet minden évben az USA-ban rendez meg az Amerikai Földrajzi Társaság (2022-ben New York-ban, február 25-március 1. között). Célja a geográfia legújabb eredményeinek nemzetközi bemutatása, a tudomány megújítása, az akadémia és az iparági képviselők találkozása és a személyes kapcsolatok építése. A 2021-es, virtuális kongresszuson 959 szekcióban 3000 előadás hangzott el 5100 szerző jóvoltából, az utolsó jelenléti kongresszuson, 2019-ben, 8500 kutató vett részt 77 országból. Részvételem célja előadás tartása 'Magyarország és Szerbia kapcsolatrendszerének változása a kritikai geopolitika tükrében' témakörben. A bilaterális kapcsolatok változását az átalakuló balkáni geopolitikai kontextusban és a változó magyar külpolitikai érdekérvényesítés keretei között elemzem. Fontos megállapításunk, hogy a kisállami geopolitikának bizonyos kontextusokban jelentős mozgástere lehet. Vezető oktató-kutatóként a nemzetközi láthatóság és ismertség növelése elengedhetetlen, csakúgy, mint a meglévő szakmai kapcsolatok ápolása. Ezek előfeltételei nemzetközi kutatási együttműködéseknek, csereprogramoknak is. Az AAG kongresszusok a networkingre kiválóan alkalmasak a résztvevők magas száma és földrajzi diverzitása miatt. A szervezők nagy hangsúlyt fordítanak a konferencia során a kötetlenebb szakmai találkozók feltételeinek megteremtésére (ú.n. business meetingek). A szakma vezető folyóiratai többségükben angol-amerikai szerkesztőségűek, az ezekben való publikáláshoz nagy segítség, ha azonos szellemben zajló konferenciákon szerepel a kutató, ahol a legújabb eredmények, formálódó kutatások megismerése mellett még a szerkesztőbizottságok tagjaival is kapcsolatba léphet.
A projekt összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára Adjon egy rövid, közérthető ismertetést a látogatni tervezett nemzetközi rendezvényről, illetve a részvétel céljáról, várható eredményeiről. Az Amerikai Földrajzi Társaság, a tudományterület legnagyobb amerikai szervezete által minden évben megrendezésre kerül az éves kongresszus, mely nyitott a világ bármely kutatója számára. A rendezvény látogatottsága kiemelkedően nagy, a legutóbbi személyes részvétellel rendezett eseményen 8500 fő vett részt 77 országból (ez a Föld országainak közel 40%-a), a kongresszus a földrajztudomány egyik legnagyobb, globális vonzerejű seregszemléje. Célja kettős: egyfelől a tudomány legújabb eredményeinek bemutatása, megvitatása, terjesztése, másrészt egy olyan többnapos esemény lebonyolítása, ahol a szakmai képviselői (a világ minen szegletéből) találkozhatnak egymással, diákokkal, a földrajztudományhoz közel álló szakmai és gazdasági szervezetek képviselőivel, intézményekkel. A rendezvényen egy előadás tartásárá vállakoznék a változó magyar-szerb kapcsolatok kritikai geopolitikai aspektusairól. A kritikai földrajz ma az angolszász világban meghatározó jelentőségű, ugyanakkor Európa kisállamairól meglehetősen felületesek az ismeretek. Úgy gondolom, hogy a választott módszertannal a nemzetközi környezetben is izgalmas előadást fogok tudni tartani. Az előadásra érkező reakciók és visszajelzések hozzájárulnak kutatói pályám elmélyítéséhez és fejlesztéséhez, a rendezvény által nyújtott találkozási lehetőségek pedig a szakmában elengedhetetlen hálózatosodoáshoz, kapcsolatépítéshez.
Summary
Presentation of the international scientific/innovation event to be visited in the project and description of the proposed participation Present the type, purpose, organizers, and significance of the international event in the scientific community. Present the purpose of the participation (e.g., paper, poster, other activity), the expected impact of the participation in the event and its significance in building your own research career. The AAG Congress is the largest international scientific event in geography, held every year in the USA by the American Association of Geographers (in 2022 in New York, from 25th February to 1st March). Its major goal is to showcase the latest advances in geography internationally, renew the science, bring together academia and industry representatives, and contribute to the building of personal relationships. The 2021 virtual congress featured 3,000 papers in 959 sessions from 5,100 authors, while the last in-person congress, in 2019, was attended by 8,500 researchers from 77 countries. The aim of my participation is to present a paper on to topic 'Changing relations between Hungary and Serbia in the light of critical geopolitics'. I will analyze the changes in bilateral relations in the context of the changing geopolitical context of the Balkans and the changing Hungarian foreign policy advocacy. An important finding is that small-state geopolitics can have considerable leeway in certain contexts. As an emerging academic-researcher, increasing international visibility and awareness is essential, as is cultivating existing professional relationships. These are also prerequisites for international research collaborations and exchange programs. The AAG congresses are an excellent networking opportunity due to the high number of participants and geographical diversity. The organizers place great emphasis on creating conditions for more informal professional meetings (business meetings) during the conference. Most of the leading journals in the field have Anglo-American editors, and it is a great help to publish in these journals if the researcher has the opportunity to participate in conferences with the same academic atmosphere, language, ideas, where he or she can interact with members of the editorial boards as well as to learn about the latest findings of cutting-edge researches.
Summary and aims of the project for a general audience Provide a short, general introduction to the international event to be visited, the purpose of the participation, and its expected results. The American Association of Geographers, the largest American organization in the field, holds its annual congress every year in one of the US major cities, open to researchers from all over the world. The event is extremely well attended, with the most recent in-person event attracting 8,500 participants from 77 countries (nearly 40% of the world's countries), and is one of the largest gatherings of geography with global appeal. The aim is twofold: to present, discuss and disseminate the latest scientific findings and to organize a multi-day event where professionals (from all over the world) can meet with each other, students, representatives of professional and economic organizations and institutions close to geography. My participation includes a lecture on critical geopolitical aspects of the changing Hungarian-Serbian relations. Today, critical geography is the mainstream approach in the Anglo-Saxon world of geographers, but knowledge of Europe's small states is rather superficial. I believe that with the methodology I have chosen, I will be able to give an exciting lecture in an international context. The reactions and feedback to the lecture will contribute to the deepening and development of my research career, and the networking opportunities provided by the event are also essential in the academia.

A ’Remembrance of the Ottoman occupation, Muslim related sentiments and local identity in Szigetvár (Hungary) the death place of Suleiman the Magnificent’ című előadással vettünk részt Atlantában (USA), 2022. 20-22. között a SEDAAG (Southeastern Division of the American Association of Geographers) éves kongresszusán. A rendezvényen, mely a legrégibb és legaktívabb AAG területi divízió által szervezett éves kongresszus, közel 250 előadás hangzott el, köztük a miénk. Az előadást diskurzus, majd kötetlen szakmai beszélgetés követett a tágan vett témáról (emlékezeti helyek turisztikai hasznosítása). Előadásunkban rámutattunk, hogy a történeti ellenségkép a jelenben gazdasági erőforrássá válhat, mely a közvéleményben is tetten érhető. A szakmai előadás mellett kapcsolatépítési tevékenységet is folytattam a Kentucky egyetem fiatal kutatójával, valamint a Georgia State University oktatójával, melyeknek távlati folytatásai is elképzelhetők. A konferencián kapott visszajelzések hozzájárulnak a kutatás további irányainak meghatározásához. We participated with a presentation entitled 'Remembrance of the Ottoman occupation, Muslim related sentiments and local identity in Szigetvár (Hungary) the death place of Suleiman the Magnificent' at the annual congress of SEDAAG (Southeastern Division of the American Association of Geographers) in Atlanta (USA), 20-22 2022. The annual congress, organized by the oldest and most active AAG Regional Division, featured nearly 250 papers, including ours. The presentation was followed by a discussion and then an informal professional discussion on the broader topic (touristic utilization of memorial sites). In our presentation, we pointed out that the historical image of the enemy can become an economic resource in the present, which can also be measured in public opinion. In addition to the professional lecture, I also engaged in networking activities with young researchers from the University of Kentucky and a faculty member from Georgia State University, with the possibility of continuing these activities in the future. The feedback received at the conference will help to determine future directions for research.
