A projekt keretében támogatott nemzetközi tudományos/innovációs rendezvény bemutatása Mutassa be a szervezés alatt álló nemzetközi rendezvény jellegét, célját, programját, célcsoportját és jelentőségét a nemzetközi, illetve hazai tudományos élet szempontjából. A projekt a DEBCARB 2020 (Debrecen Colloquium on Carbohydrates 2020 in 2022 - Rezső Bognár Memorial Conference on Glycomimetics and COST Action 18132 Management Committee Meeting), ~120 résztvevős konferencia megszervezését célozza, amely a Debrecen University Symposium sorozat része, és otthont ad a „Functional Glyconanomaterials for the Development of Diagnostics and Targeted Therapeutic Probes” COST hálózat irányító bizottsági találkozójának is. A sejtek membránját szénhidrátok borítják, a sejtfalak glikán polimereket tartalmaznak. A cukrok specifikus információhordozó funkciója, a “harmadik biológiai nyelv” jelentősége általánosan elfogadott. A glikánok szerepe alapvető a kardiovaszkuláris, daganatos, neurodegeneratív és anyagcsere betegségek, bakteriális- és vírusfertőzések patofiziológiájában. Egyre több szénhidrát és glikomimetikum alapú gyógyszer és vakcina kerül forgalomba. A konferencia e területek legújabb kutatásairól és perspektíváiról ad számot 18 meghívott plenáris, számos orális és poszter előadásban. Halálának 30. évfordulóján megemlékezünk Bognár Rezső akadémikusról, a szénhidrátkémia jeles alakjáról is. A konferencia a pandémia után az egyik első, személyes jelenléttel megvalósuló rendezvény lesz a tudományterületen, ezért a COST Action 28 országán túli helyekről is számítunk jelentkezőkre a szénhidrátkémia, glikobiológia, a számításos kémia és biokémia művelői közül. A kiemelkedő nemzetközi kutatógárda magyarországi jelenléte lehetőséget ad a hazai kutatók és műhelyek kapcsolatainak ápolására, a kutatási témák és eredmények kölcsönös megismerésére. Kiemelten tervezzük támogatni a fiatal kutatók és doktori hallgatók részvételét és bemutatkozását.

A tervezett DEBCARB 2020 (Debrecen Colloquium on Carbohydrates 2020 in 2022 - Rezső Bognár Memorial Conference on Glycomimetics and COST Action 18132 Management Committee Meeting) konferencia, amely a Debrecen University Symposium sorozat része, és otthont ad a „Functional Glyconanomaterials for the Development of Diagnostics and Targeted Therapeutic Probes” COST hálózat irányító bizottsági találkozójának is, elősegíti az ismeretek kicserélését és disszeminációját a szénhidrátok/cukrok kémiája, biológiája, biokémiája és számításos vizsgálatai területén. Az új tudományos eredmények ezen témákban hozzájárulhatnak eredeti terápiás módszerek kidolgozásához kardiovaszkuláris, daganatos, neurodegeneratív és anyagcsere betegségek, bakteriális- és vírusfertőzések ellen. A kiemelkedő nemzetközi kutatógárda magyarországi jelenléte lehetőséget ad a hazai kutatók és műhelyek kapcsolatainak ápolására, a kutatási témák és eredmények kölcsönös megismerésére. Kiemelten tervezzük támogatni a fiatal kutatók és doktori hallgatók részvételét és bemutatkozását.
Summary
Presentation of the international scientific/innovation event supported in the project Present the type, purpose, agenda, targeted audience, and significance of the international event organized in the international and domestic scientific community. The project aims at the organization of DEBCARB 2020 (Debrecen Colloquium on Carbohydrates 2020 in 2022 - Rezső Bognár Memorial Conference on Glycomimetics and COST Action 18132 Management Committee Meeting) with ~120 participants. This is part of the Debrecen University Symposium series and hosts the workshops of COST Action „Functional Glyconanomaterials for the Development of Diagnostics and Targeted Therapeutic Probes”. Cell membranes are covered by glycans, cell walls comprise glycan polymers. The information carrier function of sugars, the importance of the ’third language of biology’ has become widely accepted. Glycans play crucial roles in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular, neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases, bacterial and viral infections and tumors. More and more medicines based on carbohydrates and glycomimetics come to the market. Our conference will demonstrate the latest research and perspectives of the above fields in 18 invited plenary lectures and many oral/poster presentations. Rezső Bognár, the outstanding Hungarian carbohydrate chemist will also be commemorated. In the field, this conference will be one of the first events after the pandemic where participation in person is possible. Thus, we may count on participants from places beyond the 28 countries of the COST Action representing experts in glycochemistry and -biology, computational chemistry and biochemistry. The visit of excellent scientists in Hungary facilitates Hungarian researchers and teams to build and deepen their connections, and mutual recognition of research topics and results. We plan to strongly support the participation of young Hungarian researchers and PhD students.
Summary and aims of the project for a general audience Provide a short, general introduction to the international event organized and its expected results. The planned conference DEBCARB 2020 (Debrecen Colloquium on Carbohydrates 2020 in 2022 - Rezső Bognár Memorial Conference on Glycomimetics and COST Action 18132 Management Committee Meeting) being part of the Debrecen University Symposium series and hosting the workshops of COST Action „Functional Glyconanomaterials for the Development of Diagnostics and Targeted Therapeutic Probes” is going to facilitate knowledge exchange and dissemination in the fields of research in chemistry, biology, biochemistry and computational methods directed at carbohydrates/sugars. New scientific results in such topics may contribute to develop novel therapeutic methods for cardiovascular, neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases, bacterial and viral infections and tumors. The visit of excellent scientists in Hungary facilitates Hungarian researchers and teams to build and deepen their connections, and mutual recognition of research topics and results. We plan to strongly support the participation of young Hungarian researchers and PhD students.

A glikomimetikumok kutatása a szénhidráttudomány alkalmazásának egyik nemzetközileg is kiemelkedő területe, amely a természetes szénhidrát származékok szerkezetével és/vagy biológiai hatásával analóg sajátságú vegyületek előállítása és vizsgálata révén a szénhidrát alapú gyógyszerfejlesztést alapozza meg.
Ez a tudományterület állt a Debrecen Colloquium on Carbohydrates 2020 in 2022 – Rezső Bognár Memorial Conference on Glycomimetics (DEBCARB20/22) konferencia fókuszában, amelyet 2022. augusztus 24-27. között rendeztünk meg a Debreceni Egyetemen. Az eseményen 89 hazai és külföldi kutató vett részt 15 európai országból, valamint az USA-ból és Törökországból. A szénhidráttudomány nemzetközi kiválóságai 15 plenáris előadást tartottak, ezen kívül 21 szóbeli és 27 poszter prezentációt mutattak be a megjelentek. A DEBCARB20/22 keretében került sor a COST Action 18132 (Functional Glyconanomaterials for the Development of Diagnostics and Targeted Therapeutic Probes) második tudományos találkozójára, valamint a Management Committee értekezletére is (a személyesen jelenlévő tagok mellett 10 online résztvevő). A rendezvény a COVID-19 járvány után az egyik első, személyes részvétellel lebonyolított, nemzetközi szénhidráttudományi esemény volt.

Research on glycomimetics is an internationally prominent application of glycoscience, which underpins the development of carbohydrate-based medicines by producing and testing compounds with analogous structures and/or biological effects to natural carbohydrate derivatives.
This field of science was in the focus of the Debrecen Colloquium on Carbohydrates 2020 in 2022 - Rezső Bognár Memorial Conference on Glycomimetics (DEBCARB20/22), held at the University of Debrecen, 24-27 August, 2022. The event was attended by 89 national and international researchers from 15 European countries as well as from the USA and Turkey. Internationally renowned experts of glycoscience gave 15 plenary lectures and other participants presented 21 oral communications and 27 posters. DEBCARB20/22 also included the second scientific meeting of COST Action 18132 (Functional Glyconanomaterials for the Development of Diagnostics and Targeted Therapeutic Probes) and the Management Committee meeting (10 online participants in addition to in-person members). The event was one of the first international glycoscience events with in-person participation since the COVID-19 outbreak.
