A Semmelweis Egyetem Fogpótlástani Klinikájának oktató gárdája számos hazai felkért jeles szakember együttműködésével öt évvel ezelőtt elhatározta, hogy megjelentet egy új hiánypótló tankönyvet fogpótlástan témakörben. Az utolsó átfogó könyv e témakörben szintén a tanszék munkatársainak tollából íródott 1997-ben. Az azóta eltelt 25 év magyarázza, ennek a műnek az időszerűségét és hiánypótló jellegét.
A könyv írása során nem a régi tankönyv szerkezeti felépítését vettük alapul, hanem egy nemzetközi tematikának, felosztásnak is igyekeztünk megfelelni. A könyv 11 fejezetéből 7 önmagában is könyv méretű, önálló szakmai mű, mely magyarázza a könyv igen terjedelmes volumenét: 1336 oldal és majdnem 4500 ábra, fotó.
A könyv a klasszikus fogpótlástani felosztáson kívül több száz oldalon keresztül ismerteti a modern protetikai szakmai irányelveket, technikákat, anyagokat. Ilyen fejezet például az implantáció protetikára fókuszáló rész, vagy a digitális fogászat vívmányait fogpótlástani szempontból összefoglaló fejezet.
Mindenképpen megemlítendő, hogy ekkora terjedelmű egyetemi tankönyv nemzetközi viszonylatban is igen ritkán készül, elsősorban a szakma specializálódása miatt. A 2022 májusában a Semmelweis Kiadó gondozásában megjelent mű, tehát reményeink szerint nemcsak tartalmában, de megjelenésében is magas minőséget képvisel. A környezetii fenntarthatóságot a papír alapú kiadvány mellett, az elektronikus megjelenés biztosítja.

The teaching staff of the Semmelweis University Department of Prosthodontics decided more than five years ago to publish a new textbook of dental prosthodontics with the cooperation of a number of prominent Hungarian specialists. The last comprehensive book on this dental field was also written by department in 1997. The 25 years that have passed since then explain the timeliness of this work. During the writing of the book, the authors did not follow the stucture of the old textbook as a basis, but also tried to comply with an international theme and division. Seven of the book’s eleven chapters are book-sized, independent professional works in themselves, which explains the very large volume of the book: 1336 pages and almost 4500 figures and photos. In addition to the classic prosthodontics divisions, the book describes modern professional guidelines, techniques and materials in hundreds of pages. Such a chapter is the part focusing on implant prosthodontics, or the chapter summarizing the achievements of digital dentistry. It should definitely be mentioned that the textbook of this size is very rarely produced even in an international context, primarily due to the specialization of the dental profession. The work was published in May 2022 by Semmelweis Kiadó, so the authors hope that it represents high quality not only on its content but also in its appearance. In addition to the paper-based publication, the electronic publication ensures environmental sustainability.
