Kutatási témánkban a kálcium oldatbeli viselkedését, szerkezetalakító hatását több kutatási módszer (röntgen- és neutrondiffrakció, tömegspektrométer, EXAFS, molekuláris dinamikai szimuláció, ab initio számítások) együttes alkalmazásával, a módszerek szinergiáját kihasználva vizsgáltuk.

Calcium is one of the most frequently studied ions due to its biological and environmental role as well as of indutrial importance. The present research targeted the chemical behaviour and structure forming ability of Calcium ion by applying several investigating methods: X-Ray and neutron diffraction, mass spectrometry, EXAFS, molecular dynamics simulation, ab initio calculations based on the synergism of the methods. The selected solvents, solutes, high concentrations, structural studies on complex formation are all new topics in solution chemistry, and high pressures studies are completeley unknown in literature. The original research plan has been performed successfully, with only minor modifications. All publications has been prepared at high quality and sent to prestigeous international journals (8 original papers, 5 lectures). Our calculations and measurements verify that the local structure around Calcium ion is influenced by the anion and concentration of the investigated solution. Although significant complex formation has not been observed, ion pair formation could be detected, the extent of which is highest in aqueous solution of CaCl2 and increases by increasing concentration. Structure of solvates is distorted with increasing concentration, but the ion pair formation does not exceed the penetration of one or two ligands to the solvate structure. This phenomenon is depending on concentration, but there is no visible dependence on the pressure up to 2000 bar.
