Jelen pályázat Erkel Ferenc harmadik operája, a Bánk bán (1861) kritikai kiadásának elkészítését, valamint a Sarolta (1862) közreadásának előkészítését tűzte ki célul. A Bánk bán kritikai kiadása több okból különlegesen nehéz feladatot rótt a közreadóra. A szöveget összehasonlította Katona József klasszikus drámájával. E műben vettek részt első ízben Erkel fiai a kidolgozásban, ez szükségessé tette közreműködésük részarányának meghatározását. A partitúra 1865-66-ban revízión esett át, ezt a változatot közli a kiadás főszövege. Tekintélyes mennyiségű vázlat jelenik meg a kritikai jegyzetekben. A Bánk bár kritikai kiadása három kötetben, több mint 800 nagyalakú partitúra oldalon, a végleges szövegkönyv kritikai kiadásával és angol fordításával, Egressy Béni eredeti szövegének közreadásával, valamint a keletkezéstörténetet, történelmi, irodalmi és zenei forrásokat, valamint a recepciótörténetet feldolgozó két és fél szerzői ív terjelemű bevezető tanulmánnyal és annak angol fordításával, továbbá a kritikai jegyzetek külön füzetével első ízben teszi eredeti alakjában hozzáférhetővé a legjelentősebb magyar nemzeti operát. A Sarolta kritikai közreadásához megtörtént a grafikázható partitúra berendezése. A kottagrafika elkészítése a következő évek feladata lesz.

The aim of the project was to prepare the critical edition of Bánk bán, the third opera by Ferenc Erkel (1861), and to begin editorial work on Sarolta, his first comic opera (1862). The preparation of the critical edition of Bánk bán constituted a more difficult task for the editors than the previous works, Bátori Mária (1840) and Hunyadi László (1844). The libretto was written by Benjamin Egressy after József Katona's classical drama. In Bánk bán, Erkel's sons Gyula and Sándor took active part in the orchestration and even in the composition. The extent of their participation had to be analysed. The score was revised in 1865-66, this version will be published in the score. A great amount of sketches will be published in the critical notes. The three volume edition of the opera will contain the score on about 800 pages, the libretto in Hungarian and English as well as an introductory essay of about 90 000 characters on the genesis, historical, literary and musical sources, and the history of reception and revisions. For the critical edition of Sarolta, a 19th century manuscript score has been arranged for computer graphics which will be prepared in the following years.
