A pályázat témája a magyar nemzeti művészet kialakulásának és modernizációjának időszaka (1800–1920). A kutatás része egy sokkal kiterjedtebb vizsgálatnak és szintézis-kísérletnek, mely a magyar és magyarországi művészet egészére kiterjed, s melynek vállalása az MTA Művészettörténeti Kutatóintézet fő feladata. A most tervezett munka a 19. század teljes forrásanyagára, emlékanyagára (építészet, képzőművészet és más vizuális művészetek), valamint azok társadalmi és elméleti hátterére kiterjed.
Summary
In the frame of OTKA we apply for a grant of research in the period of the Beginnings of the National Hungarian Art and its Modernisation (1800–1920). This research is an important part of an extended enquiry of the wholeness of the Hungarian or „Hungary based” art from the beginning until today which is the main task of the MTA Research Institute of Art History. We collect and analyse the totality of sources, artworks (architecture, applied and visual art, etc.) and other remains of the period and of course their social and theoretical background in order to establish a large databank and a written synthesis of it.

A kutatás során a 19. századi magyar művészet új kutatási eredményekre alapuló általános áttekintése megtörtént. Az egyes periódusok és műfajok szisztematikus és arányos feltárása és szöveges összefoglalását elvégeztük, éspedig olyan formában, hogy egyrészt támaszkodtunk a korábbi publikációkban közreadott eredményekre, másrészt integráltuk ezeket a pályázati munka során kikutatott új eredményekkel. (Sajnos a festészeti témájú kutatás a projekt egyik vezérszemélyiségének számító kolléga krónikus betegsége miatt csak részben történhetett meg.) A szöveges kutatási anyag mellett felállítottunk egy kb. 600 egységből álló, a tematikát szorosan követő digitális képarchívumot. A kutatás témaköréből megjelentettünk tanulmányokat, másrészt az összeállított szöveges és képi anyag – a megfelelő kiegészítésekkel – alapját képezi egy nagyobb, később publikálásra kerülő szintézisnek is.
Results in English
In the course of the research work the general survey of 19th-century Hungarian art has been completed. We have accomplished the systematic and proportional investigation and textual summation of the specific periods and genres in such a way that we have integrated the results of earlier publications and the new results of the research implemented within the framework the current project. (Unfortunately, due to the chronic illness of one of the principal participants of the team, research into the painting of the period has only been partially completed.) Beside the textual research material we have set up a digital pictoral archive of some 600 units, which are in harmony with the themes of the project. Studies have been published on the subject of the project, and the text and pictures compiled (with the necessary additions) can form the basis of a general synthesis to be published in the future.
