Summary in Hungarian
A legbelső atomi héjakon kötött elektronok átmeneteinek tanulmányozása növekvő hangsúlyt kap mind az ezen folyamatok részletesebb megértésében eddig történt előrehaladás, mind az ezen átmenetek megfigyeléséből számos anyagi rendszer lokális elektronszerkezetére kapható információ nagy gyakorlati fontossága miatt. E területen csoportunk is jelentékeny szerephez jutott.
Summary
Due to the great practical importance of the information on the local electronic structure in various material systems, obtainable from the observations of such phenomena, as well as due to the advances in detailed understanding of these processes, studies of transitions between electrons bound in the innermost atomic shells are gaining an increasing emphasis. In this field a considerable role has been played by our group as well.. The aim of our research is to clarify the effect of the atomic environment on the K-Auger transitions excited resonantly using photons with energies near the K-shell ionization threshold, as well as non-resonantly, observing and modeling these transitions, in the case of 3d transition metals, their alloys and oxides. Comparing the resonant and non-resonant Auger spectra and modeling the respective atomic phenomena and electron transport, information can be derived on the excitation processes reflected in the spectra and on the local structure of the unoccupied electronic states. A further aim of our research is to acquire knowledge on scattering processes of high energy 1-10 keV electrons within the material, from high energy resolution electron backscattering experiments and modeling the electron scattering. Interpreting Auger spectra this information is necessary and the derived physical quantities characterizing electron scattering are important for the quantitative chemical analysis of surfaces and interfaces (especially in the case of buried interfaces). As an important application, on the basis of the information extracted from high energy electron spectra, a model and software is being developed for simulating response functions of semiconductor photon detectors.

Results in Hungarian
Új elektronszórási jelenséget (felület fölötti szórás) írtunk le, amelyet a kísérleti eredmények igazoltak. Félvezető detektorok töltéstranszport folyamatai leírására, áramjelei meghatározására 3D MC szimulációs modellt dolgoztunk ki, ez a detektorban keltett szabad töltéshordozók mozgását korlátozó folyamatokat a korábbinál részletesebben írja le. A modell érvényét és a programot Si pin fotodióda esetén korábbi kísérleti, ill. MC szimulációs diffúziós és drift adatokkal ellenőriztük.
Results in English
From new experiments the energies and relative intensities of the KLL and KLM Auger transitions photoinduced from 3d metals were determined and the KLL spectra obtained using resonant photoexcitation (reflecting the effects of the local electronic structure) were compared with model calculations. Electron correlátion satellites were identified in all measured 1s photoelectron spectra of 3d metals and the 1s lineshapes were interpreted by model calculations. In the case of NiFe alloys the charge transfer was derived from the measured alloy-metal Auger parameter shifts, in a satisfactory agreement with model calculations. A method and program package were developed for determining the physical parameters and distributions - characterizing the electron transport in surface layers – from spectra of electrons backscattered from 3d metals. These quantities were applied for evaluating and modeling the measured K-Auger and core photoelectron spectra. A new electron scattering phenomenon (super surface scattering) has been described and confirmed by experiments. A 3D MC model to simulate the charge transport and to aid the derivation of current signal in semiconductor radiation detectors was developed. The model describes the processes limiting the movement of free charge carriers in the detectors in more details than other models. The model and the program was tested for Si pin photodiode, its validity was verified by earlier experimental and MC simulated diffusion and drift data.
