Summary in Hungarian
A mintegy 400 oldalas tanulmánykötet két gyimesi községben: Gyimesfelsőlok, Gyimesbükk (Hargita megye, Románia) hat éve folyó vallásra, vallási életre, néphitre és vallásos folklórra vonatkozó kutatások első összefoglaló eredményeit tartalmazza. A hosszú terepmunkán, résztvevő megfigyelésem alapuló kutatómunkát a Pécsi Tudományegyetem Néprajz–Kulturális Antropológia Tanszékének tanárai és doktori iskolájának hallgatói végezték, a szerzők többsége itt közli kutatási eredményeinek első jelentős összefoglalását.
Summary
Research into the religious life, beliefs and folklore of the people living in the Gyimes region of Transylvania began a few years ago in a project at Pécs Univesrsity worked by lecturers, a changing group of undergraduate students and a handful of PhD students. This is the first volume published jointly by this group. It offers an overview of the varied aspects and topics of our field of research and the various methodological approaches applied. The work itself covered two points of the Gyimes region, Gyimesközéplok (Lunca de Jos) which is a village with a Roman Catholic, Hungarian population in Hargita (Harghita) county, Romania, and at Gyimesbükk (Ghimeş-Făget), a village in Bákó (Bacău) county, Romania, where a part of the population are Romanians of the orthodox faith. The region we are talking about retains some of the most archaic religious and folk traditions of the Hungarian people, while, to be sure, even this milieu is not immune to changes effected by modern life. This offers a fascinating chance to register to co-existence of the old and the new. In the course of our research we considered it an important task to collect and study the 'mediaevalistic' traits of the culture but also to examine the present-day reality of the culture of the Gyimes people, the phenomena that constitute their religion, beliefs and folklore today.
