Summary in Hungarian
A „Búcsú a parasztságtól” c. néprajzi-történeti kutatás azokat a nagy horderejű változásokat kívánja feltárni, amelyek a 20. század derekán a hagyományos paraszti életforma teljes felbomlásához vezettek.
A kutatás gerincét a kilenc nagyobb témakörre tagolt interjúgyűjtemény alkotja.
A teljes dokumentumgyűjtemény a szentendrei Szabadtéri Néprajzi Múzeum adattárába kerül.
Summary
The research in ethnography and history called „Farewell to the peasantry” intends to reveal those essential changes occurred in the mid 20th century, which caused the total disintegration of the traditional peasant lifestyle.
The research is based on a collection of interviews, divided into nine bigger ranges of subjects. The questions in the survey forms cover almost every important field referring to the change of lifestyle: from the material world to the spiritual and inner world, from the surrounding environment to the inner emotional reflexes. The nine subjects are these: farewell to the tools, to the work organisation, to the customs, to the feasts, to the small works, to the field, to the village, to the lifestyle.
The first phase of the elaborating work consists of the electronic data recording of those several thousand pages in type-written form being interviews recorded on tape during three decades and the further recording of envisaged interviews. The research should continue by the elaboration of the collected archive and literature material, by adding new data to them and by closing the process of collection. The collection of documents will be stored in a data-base on Internet and on the archives of the Hungarian Open-Air Museum in Szentendre. A thorough, comprehensive study will precede the peasants’ statements to look at the profound agricultural and social transformation occurred in the 20th century from the historical perspective of several centuries. This will truly highlight in both time and space the ethnographic and historic values lying in the personal statements. The book in two volumes should thus contain a study and the edited interviews illustrated with photos and drawings.

Final report

Results in Hungarian
A rendi korszak alkonyán; 3. Emelkedés és bomlás, 1848-1945; 4. Földosztás és földfosztás, 1945-1961. (A társadalmi likvidálás évei.) A kutatásokat kiterjesztettük a korabeli levéltári akták anyagára is. Ez a munka, érthetően, a parasztság társadalmi likvidálásának utolsó szakaszára, az 1949-1961 közötti évekre vonatkozó forrásokból kívánt egyes iratcsoportokat feltárni. A kutatás eredményei, lévén annak tárgya a történelem, elsősorban parasztságtörténet, azon belül is főként a parasztvilág társadalmi felszámolásával összefüggő kérdések és a más jellegű elemzések során hasznosíthatók, tartalmaznak érdemleges értékeket. Ezen kívül hasznosíthatók, mert szervesen kapcsolódnak a néprajz és a szociológia, illetve a településtörténet és a történeti demográfia egyes területeihez is.
Results in English
As a result of the subject’s research and scientific treatment, a volume of studies (consisting of 1 240 000 characters) has been written and completed with 32 pages of literature index. This comprehensive study oversees a past of nearly 1000 years, mainly with the purpose to show the deep-reaching social change taking place in 1945-1961 against a due historic background. Furthermore, the studies provide with the necessary perspective the multitude of ethnographic and historic values of the second volume, hidden in the confessions of peasants. The essay-like historic analysis consists of four main chapters: 1. serfs-peasants; 2. At the dusk of the age of estates; 3. Rise and fall 1848-1945; 4. Land distribution and land plunder 1945-1961 (The years of social destruction). The other result yielded from the research and treatment of the subject is a collection of interviews. The research included archive documents too. The purpose of this part of the work is to reveal certain documented sources referring to the last years of social destruction of the peasantry in the years from 1949 to 1961. The results of the research, since history is its subject, and thanks to their valuable details can be used for dealing with questions referring mainly to the history of the peasantry, and within it with the social liquidation of the peasant world as well as for carrying out different analyses. Being organically linked to certain fields of ethnography and sociology, historical demography and to the history of communities, its further use is obvious.
