A program a nemzetközi klasszika filológiában kialakult újabb irodalomértési tendenciák fényében próbálja meg újraolvasni a horatiusi Ars Poeticát, amely az európai irodalomtudományos gondolkodás egyik alapszövege. A kutatás nem korlátozódik az életmű autoreferenciális megjegyzéseinek elemzésére, hanem azt térképezi fel, hogyan működik a horatiusi költészet, ezért a horatiusi líra esztétikai szempontú elemzését is kezdeményezi. Azt vizsgálja tehát egyfelől, hogy milyen helyet foglal el Horatius elméleti reflexiója az antik esztétikai gondolkodás hagyományában, másfelől hogy az esztétikai gondolkodás hogyan viszonyul a horatiusi költészetben, elsősorban az ódákban megvalósuló esztétikumhoz.
Summary
The project’s aim is a re-reading and a re-evaluation of Horace’s Ars poetica, which might be regarded as one of the basic texts of western aesthetic thinking. The research does not exhaust in the analysis of the autoreferential texts and passages of the oeuvre, but tries to describe the nature of its aesthetic effect. Therefore the project tries to pave way towards an analysis of Horace’s lyric poetry from the viewpoint of aesthetic thinking. The first central topic is the place Horace has in the tradition of ancient aesthetic theory, while the second is the relation of aesthetic theory to the aesthetic effect realized in his poetry, first of all in the odes.

Bízvást elmondhatjuk, hogy a kutatási program vállalásait bőven teljesítette.
A folyamatos műhelymunka és a gyakori tanácskozások akár konferenciák keretén belül, akár a kutatócsoport zártkörű rendezvényein négy kollektív publikációt eredményezett.
Az Ókor tematikus számában már bemutattuk a Horatius-vers 21. századi olvashatóságának több lehetséges aspektusát.
A MD különszáma megmutatja Horatius leghosszabb költeményének végtelenül problematikus természetét, valamint hogy a nemzetközi tudományosság miképpen próbál ezzel szembenézni.
Egy többszerzős monográfia egységes szemléleti keretben az életmű pillanatnyilag fontosnak látszó összes aspektusával foglalkozik. A kötet fejezeteinek többsége egy-egy vers kapcsán tárgyal valamilyen általánosabb Horatius-problémát, de igyekszik a korszak, a római (és európai) kultúrtörténet és az életmű kontextusának bemutatása mellett szoros szövegelemzést nyújtani. Horatius minden műfajáról szól fejezet.
A szatírakötetből leginkább az derült ki, hogy a szatíra fogalma olyan alapvető változásokon ment át az ókortól napjainkig, hogy általános értelmezési segítséget a műfajiság egyáltalán nem nyújt, a szatirikusságot mindig a vizsgált kulturális kontextusban kell újradefiniálni.

The research program has fulfilled everything it had promised.
The continuous collaborative work (both in conferences and the closed workshops of the research group) resulted in four collective publications.
In the special issue of the journal Ókor we represented several relevant aspects of the interpretability of Horace in the 21st century.
The special issue of the journal MD proved the highly problematic nature of Horace's longest poem, and showed how the international community of classical philology tries to cope with it.
A collective monograph on Horace deals with all the relevant aspects of the oeuvre in a unified theoretical framework. Most of the chapters discuss rather general problems of Horace through the close analysis of single poems. Every literary genre is discussed at least in one chapter.
A collection of essays on the genre satire has proved that the genre changed so much so many times since the Antiquity that the concept of the genre does not help in the interpretation any more. The satiric must be redefined again and again in the given cultural context.
