Célunk a CERN LHC ALICE kísérletben folytatott korábbi kutatási tevékenységünk továbbvitele, a konstrukciós fázis befejezése után a fizikai programban, az adatgyüjtési és kiértékelési fázisban való aktív részvétel. Az LHC-ben a következő évtizedben évente 10 hónapig proton-proton ütközések történnek √s = 14 000 GeV, és 1 hónapig Pb+Pb ütközések √s = 5500 AGeV energián. Mindkét programban résztveszünk. Fő feladatunk az ütközésben keletkezett nagy energiasűrűségű anyag vizsgálata, az elméletileg várt kvark-gluon plazma tulajdonságainak meghatározása. Ehhez kísérletileg a nagy energiás részecskék keletkezését vizsgáljuk, különösen fontosnak tartva a töltött hadronok azonosítását.
A beadott projekt a korábbi, hasonló témájú munkánk folytatása, amit az OTKA és az NKTH támogatott. A 2009-2013 időszakban a következő feladatokat kívánjuk elvégezni:
A, Részt veszünk az ALICE 4. számú Fizikai Munkacsoportjában (PWG4), amely a nagy transzverzális impulzusú részecskékkel foglalkozik. Bekapcsolódunk az ITS-TPC-TOF-TRD-HMPID detektor láncon történő hadron analízisbe, vizsgálni fogjuk a hadron-hadron korrelációkat és a pp ütközésben keletkező, termikus eredetűnek vélt közepes és nagy energiájú részecskéket.
B, A kapott kísérleti adatokat értelmezzük és összevetjük az elméleti számolásainkkal. Mivel a kísérletek ismeretlen energiatartományban zajlanak, új fizikai jelenségek felbukkanását várjuk. Erre elméletileg is készülünk, mind pp, mind PbPb ütközésekben.
C, Tagjai vagyunk a HMPID detektorcsoportnak. Felelősen részt veszünk az adatgyüjtésben, biztosítjuk az adatok minőségét és részt veszünk a rögzített adatok későbbi kiértékelésében. Molnár L. tagunk egyike a HMPID „Run Coordinator”-ainak, támogatjuk a munkáját.
D, Részt veszünk a tervezett VHMPID detektor megépítésében, az ehhez szükséges szimulációk elvégzésében. Egy működő egységet kívánunk létrehozni, ahol a mi feladatunk a nagy energiás hadronokra való triggerelés megoldása. és az adatgyüjtés kiépítése.
E, Folytatjuk az RMKI-beli ALICE GRID állomás üzemeltetését és továbbfejlesztését, amely a helyi adatanalízishez elengedhetetlenül szükséges és aktív tagja az ALICE GRID rendszerének.
Summary
Our main goal is to continue our participation in the ALICE experiment at CERN Large Hadronic Collider (LHC) and to contribute to the physical program of ALICE. After 20 years of construction the LHC starts in 2008 and it will run scientific programs during next decade. p+p collisions will be performed for 10 months at √s = 14 000 GeV and Pb+Pb collisions for 1 month at √s = 5500 AGeV in every years. We participate in both programs. We focus on the investigation of produced high energy density matter and study the properties of expected quark-gluon plasma state. This aim is realized through the measurement of high energy particles and identification of charged hadrons.
This project continues our earlier efforts supported by OTKA and NKTH grants. Our goal is realized in the following research activities in the time period of 2009-2013:
A, We participate in the data analysis program of the ALICE Physics Working Group 4 on high-pT physics (PWG4). We perform high-pT hadron identification in the ITS-TPC-TOF-TRD-HMPID detector chain, we analyse near-side and away-side hadron-hadron correlations and study underlying events in pp collisions.
B, We theoretically analyse the obtained experimental data and compare to our theoretical calculations. Since experiments are performed in a never-before-seen energy region, we expect new phenomena. Thus we continously prepare ourselves to understand and verify new effects appear in pp and PbPb collisions.
C, We are member of the HMPID Detector. We are responsible to run the data collection during collisions, to ensure data quality and to perform off-line data analysis. Group member L. Molnar is one of the Run Coordinators of the HMPID.
D, We are member of the planned VHMPID Detector. We perform simulations and participate in the construction of one modul. We are responsible for triggering on high energy hadrons.
E, We manage the ALICE GRID station at RMKI and extend its capacity following increasing demand from data analysis.

Az NK77816 OTKA projektünk során fő célunk az LHC nehézion programjában, a fizikai elemzésekben való részvétel volt, valamint a magyar csoport tevékenységének biztosítása az ALICE együttműködésben. A Nagy Hadron Ütköztető (LHC) 2009-ben kezdett üzemszerűen működni, √s = 7 000 GeV energiájú p+p, 2760 AGeV energiájú Pb+Pb és végezetül 5020 AGeV enegiájú pPb ütközéseket végrehajtva. Mindhárom program során részt vettünk az adatgyűjtésben és adatelemzésben. Kísérletileg és elméletileg megvizsgáltuk a keletkezett forró sűrű anyagot, tanulmányoztuk a kvark-gluon plazma tulajdonságait, mindehhez főként a jeteket és a nagy impulzusú részecskéket használtuk. Összeállítottuk és publikáltuk a “Very High Momentum Particle Identification Detector (VHMPID)” Design report-ját. Ezen munka eredményeként meghívást kaptunk a TPC továbbfejlesztési programjába. A melléktermékként létrejött müon-tomográf jelentős érdeklődésre tett szert más tudományterületekről. 2009-2014 között 100 cikket publikáltunk, ebből 75-t referált folyóiratban. Az elméleti eredményeinket 15 referált cikkben és 19 konferencia proceedingsben foglaltuk össze. A detektor-fejlesztési eredményeink 8 referált cikkben és 4 konferencia proceedingsben jelentek meg. Az adatelemzéseket és egyéb ALICE tevékenységünkhöz tartozó eredményeket 52 referált cikkben és 2 konferencia proceedingsben publikáltuk. Fenntartottuk és fejlesztettük a magyar ALICE Tier-2 számítógépes állomást, fejlesztettük a tudásunkat a GPU alapú platformokon is.

The main goal of our project was to contribute to the physical program of the CERN LHC in the field of heavy ion collisions and to maintain successfully the Hungarian participation in the ALICE experiment. LHC started in 2009, p+p collisions were performed at √s = 7 000 GeV, Pb+Pb collisions at 2760 AGeV and pPb collisions at 5020 AGeV. We participated in all programs, collected and analyzed data. We investigated the created high energy density matter and studied the properties of quark-gluon plasma state using jets and high momentum hadrons. We completed the Design Report of the Very High Momentum Particle Identification Detector (VHMPID). The R&D activity of VHMPID led to an invitation to participate in the High Luminosity TPC Upgrade program. A muon tomograph had been developed, which received a wide interest from interdisciplinary fields. During 2009-2014 we have published 100 papers, including 75 papers in refereed journals. Selecting our different activities we have published 15 papers in refereed journals and 19 conference proceedings containing our theoretical results, 8 papers in refereed journals and 4 conference proceedings containing our results in detector R&D activities, and 52 papers in refereed journals and 2 conference proceedings on data analysis, including those ALICE publications, where the Hungarian group had relevant contribution. We maintained and improved the Hungarian ALICE Tier-2 computer station, extended our knowledge on GPU based platforms.
