Summary in Hungarian
A harmadik vizsgált anyag amorf mátrixba ágyazott UFG kristályos szemcsékből áll, amit tömbi amorf fémek részleges kristályosításával állítunk elő.
Summary
Ultrafine-grained (UFG) materials having grain size between 100 and 1000 nm are in the foreground of materials science due to their higher strength compared with coarse-grained counterparts. However, it has turned out that the high strength of UFG materials was accompanied by the reduction of their ductility which limits their practical applications. Our goal is to elaborate advanced UFG materials having a combination of high strength and good ductility, and to study the correlation between their microstructure and mechanical behavior. Our scientific program will result in a better understanding of deformation mechanisms in modern UFG materials. Three classes of materials are planned to investigate. The first group consists of UFG samples having low stacking fault energy (e.g. Ag) and processed by severe plastic deformation (SPD). According to previous investigations, it is expected that the high concentration of twins formed during SPD increases the ductility. The second class of the studied materials is of heterogeneous UFG materials obtained by sintering of blends of nano- and coarse-grained powders. In this case, the improvement of ductility is expected due to the inclusion of coarser grains into the UFG matrix. The third group of materials investigated here consists of partially crystallized bulk metallic glasses which can be regarded as composites of UFG crystalline grains embedded in amorphous matrix.

Final report

Results in Hungarian
Ezen kívül a tömbi amorf ötvözetek nagymértékű képlékeny alakítása során lezajló deformációs folyamatokat is feltártuk. Kutatásai eredményeinket 43 cikkben publikáltunk.
Results in English
Microstructure, mechanical behavior and thermal stability of advanced ultrafine-grained (UFG) materials were studied. The UFG microstructure was processed by severe plastic deformation techniques (such as equal-channel angular pressing, high-pressure torsion and dynamic plastic deformation) as well as by powder metallurgy methods in cooperation with our foreign partners. The deformation mechanisms occurred during the grain-refinement and the deformation of UFG materials were revealed. The influence of the lattice defects, the chemical and phase compositions on the thermal stability of UFG microstructures was clarified. Our research activity contributes to the development of novel UFG materials with improved mechanical performance and good thermal stability. Additionally, the deformation mechanisms occurred during severe plastic deformation in bulk amorphous alloys were revealed. Our results were published in 43 journal papers.
