(Massive Stars as Agents of Chemical Evolution) magyar részvételét biztosítja
a nukleáris asztrofizika témakörében.

A magyar résztvevők a nehéz elemek nukleoszintézisének modellezéséhez
A külföldi partnerek biztositják a modellezéshez szükséges elméleti hátteret.

Summary
The present proposal covers the Hungarian contribution to the ESF EUROCORES call
entitled: EUROGENESIS. The Hungarian partner will work in the MASCHE project:
Massive Stars as Agents of Chemical Evolution, covering the field of nuclear astrophysics.

Our task is deliver nuclear physics inputs (cross sections, angular distributions, half-lives)
to heavy element nucleosynthesis models. This experimental work will be performed using
the available ATOMKI particle accelerators, and also using foreign infrastructure.
The theoretical support will be provided by other IP's from the MASCHE project.

Our graduate students will join this network and have the opportunity to perform
work in an international team.

The main task of the ATOMKI team is to determine charged particle cross sections
on A>100 heavy isotopes. These data are not available at present in the astrophysically
relevant energy range. The work will be performed in close collaboration with the MASCHE
Turkish team.

Final report

Az ESF (European Science Foundation) 2010-ben indította azt a komplex programját (EuroGENESIS), melyben európai vezető kutatócsoportok fognak össze az elemek asztrofizikai eredetének vizsgálata céljából. Az MTA Atomki nukleáris asztrofizikai csoportja a nagytömegű csillagok vizsgálatával foglalkozó MASCHE (Massive Stars as Agents of Chemical Evolution) alprogramba kapott meghívást. Eredményeink jelentősen megnövelték a p-folyamathoz tartozó hatáskeresztmetszet adatok mennyiségét, ezért egy, a p-folyamathoz tartozó magreakciókat kritikusan elemző p-adatbázist (KADoNiS-p) is létrehoztunk.

EuroGENESIS is a collaborative research program of the European Science Foundation (ESF), addressing the need for a comprehensive approach to understand how matter became complex in the history of the Universe. The Hungarian research team had an IP (Individual Partner) status in the Coordinated Research Project MASCHE (Massive Stars as Agents of Chemical Evolution). Our task was to deliver nuclear physics inputs (cross sections, angular distributions, half-lives) to heavy element nucleosynthesis models. This experimental work was performed using the available Atomki particle accelerators, and also using foreign infrastructure. The theoretical support was provided by other IP's from the MASCHE project. The main task of the Atomki team was to determine alpha particle induced cross sections on A>100 heavy isotopes. These data were not available before in the astrophysically relevant energy range. In order to reach this aim we developed an extension of the activation method where instead of the gamma-ray from the nuclear decays, the X-rays from the atomic transitions are detected. The advantage of the method is the better yield to background ratio, and the higher branching. As a result, we extended substantially the available charged particle induced reaction database in the mass and energy range of the astrophysical p-process. We also developed an on-line database (KADoNiS-p) to list and evaluate the available datasets.
