A pályázat tárgya a Iustinianus korabeli történetírók feldolgozása abból a szempontból, hogy milyen politikai szempontokat érvényesítettek a történeti múlt ábrázolásában. Iustinianus uralkodásának ideje talán az utolsó periódusa az Imperium történetének, mikor a legrégibb történelmi múlt kifejezetten aktuálpolitikai vonatkozásban jelenik meg. A VI. századi szerzők Róma- képéhez, a történetírók mellett szükséges a Corpus Iuris egyes köteteinek vizsgálata, melyek sok esetben a direkt propaganda céljára használnak fel történeti adatokat. Kiemelkedően fontos forrás Ioannes Lydos két régiségtani traktátusa a római magisztrátusokról és a római naptárról. Mindkét mű az aktuális projekten túlmutató tudományos jelentőséggel bír, ez indokolja a műfordítás készítését is.
Summary
The goal of the project is a systematic elaboration of the historiographers of the Iustinianic era, i.e. according what political aspects they treated the description of the Roman past. The reign of Justinian is the last period of the Imperium’s history, when the ancient Roman past is represented with reference to the actual politics. To a research of the Rome-idea of the early Byzantine age, the most important sources are the followings: besides the historiographers some volumes of the Corpus Iuris, that contain historic data in a political context and the antiquarian treatises of John Lydus on the Roman Magistrates and the Calendar. During the project I translate both of these works.
