magyar összefoglaló
A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései szakemberek számára
Itt írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit a témában jártas szakember számára.

Mi a kutatás alapkérdése?

Mi a kutatás jelentősége?

Továbbá a kortárs statisztikus fizika szempontjából is általánosan érdekesek a lokális kölcsönhatásra épülő, mégis hálózatszerű, hatványfarok-statisztikájú viselkedést egy széles skálatartományban megvalósító fizikai rendszerek.

A térelméleti, termodinamikai és statisztikai módszerek relevanciája igazából még a fizikán is túlmutat; hiszen számos gazdasági és társadalmi jelenség matematikai leírása igen hasonló a korrelált, esetenként kvantumosan vagy csak dinamikailag összefonódott állapotok elméleti fizikájához.

A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára
Ebben a fejezetben írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit alapműveltséggel rendelkező laikusok számára.

A kortárs fizika egyik legátfogóbb és leggyorsabban fejlődő témája a klasszikus, "normális"-nak nevezett statisztikai eloszlástól eltérő, hatványfüggvény-lefutású eloszlások általános jelenléte, ennek vizsgálata, illetve a jóslatokhoz elengedhetetlen kiszámítása.

Erőfeszítéseinknek különös aktualitást ad a jelenleg működő CERN-i nagyberendezés, illetve a 2015-16-ra tervezett,részben magyarországi helyszínen is megvalósítandó, ELI (extrém erős fény-infrastruktúra).
angol összefoglaló
Summary of the research and its aims for experts
Describe the major aims of the research for experts.

One of the unsolved problems in high energy physics is the understanding of hadron production, its strongly dynamical character at strong coupling. The origin of the phenomenological jet-fragmentation functions is as unknown as the physical basis of the statistical and hydrodynamical description. We surmise that first pre-thermal or pseudo-thermal particle distributions are produced, which cannot be calculated perturbatively. Possible mechanisms for that, in particular the Unruh effect, will be studied by us as well as an extension of the relativistic thermodynamics and hydrodynamics including kinetic theory for off-equilibrium strongly correlated systems. An essential ingredient should be in this extension the consideration of fields interacting with a multiplicity of particles.

At this point our efforts for the transport theoretical descriptions of hadronization meet with the wish to develop the relativistic Wigner function method used for the description of the production and motion of charged particles in intense fields on the one hand and 2PI spectral functions in the field theoretical research on the other hand. Based on experiences with the Schwinger mechanism the product of the field strength and charge means the accelerating force, and this quantity scales synergically with the Boltzmann-Gibbsean temperature parameter.

Our goal is to calculate theoretically the production and distribution of relativistic particles in intense fields in elementary particle and heavy-ion collisions, in the quantum electrodynamics and near the critical point of the quark-hadron phase transition.

What is the major research question?
Describe here briefly the problem to be solved by the research, the starting hypothesis, and the questions addressed by the experiments.

We plan to investigate the emergence of statistical and individual properties of particles produced and moving in strong fields, their interaction and evolution. This is a challenge for theories of the strong and electromagnetic interaction, since it typically applies computations including infrared resummation or models equivalent to this. It is not clear that how can a given evolution scenario with classical configuration be described in terms of rsummed perturbativ series.

We plan to investigate the phenomena of pre-thermalization and pseudo-thermalization in the framework of theoretical statistical physics, classical and semiclassical field theory and perturbative quantum field theory. This will be escorted by numerical model calculations. The latter would deal with the early phase of hadron production, with the behavior of spectral functions near to the critical point of strong interaction, and with observable spectra. Here we plan to compare the free gas, the strongly coupled plasma and charges moving in intense fields - relevant to basic research. Perspectivically we consider the extension of the relativistic hydro- and thermodynamics to the last case.

What is the significance of the research?
Describe the new perspectives opened by the results achieved, including the scientific basics of potential societal applications. Please describe the unique strengths of your proposal in comparison to your domestic and international competitors in the given field.

The completion of our research plan will mean an appreciable step forward in the theoretical method describing an intense (strongly coupled and enduring) interaction between fields and particles, in the detailed understanding of hadronization as well as in the calculation of the nonlinear and relativistic co-evolution of electric charges and fields. We also expect a lesson pointing beyond electrodynamics, in particular to learn to handle QCD. Furthermore such physical systems build on local interactions which show a power law tailed statistical behavior over a wide range are especially interesting for the contemporary statistical physics, too.

Field theoretical, thermodynamical and statistical methods may point even beyond physics; the mathematical description of several economic and social phenomena is quite similar to the theoretical physics of correlated, dynamically or quantum entangled sytems.

Summary and aims of the research for the public
Describe here the major aims of the research for an audience with average background information. This summary is especially important for NRDI Office in order to inform decision-makers, media, and others.

One of the most general and fastest developing topic in contemporary theoretical physics is represented by the omnipresence of power-law tailed distributions, deviating from the "normal" statistical distribution. The investigation and calculation of such distributions is unavoidable for making reliable and rational predictions. Such phenomena often occur due to avalanche effects, natural catastrophies (earthquakes, woodfires), traffic jams, price fluctuations on financial markets and many further socially and economically important processes demonstrate them. Their common feature is that the rare events occur much more frequently than it would be naively, "normally" expected.

Our research studies analogous phenomena on the level of the tiniest parts in Nature, the elementary particles.
We aim at the development of mathematical models and methods which are able to estimate this surprisingly frequent occurence based on the knowledge of the interaction between the particles. Our goal is the calculation of the connected evolution of particles and intense fields produced at the largest accelerators and lasers. Our efforts are particularly actual in connection with the huge research facility at CERN and the for 2015-16 planned, partially in Hungary constructed, ELI (extreme light infrastructure).

The entropy content summarizes the information and thermal behavior of a system. The entropy formula comprises the relation between this entropy content and the probabilities of microstates. This formula in general - due to long range effects or small system size - deviates from the classical logarithmic function. Based on this we understood in high energy collisions the emergence of temperature and its connection to non-Gaussian and non-Poissonian fluctuations. Our results have been tested on numerous observed spectra. Such exotic deviances frequently occur near to critical points of phase transitions, whose study in field theory requires new and modern computational techniques, the so called functional renormalization group method. We pioneered the application of this method to fermions, refuting in this way in our subsequent publications earlier declarations about the lower limit of shear viscosity of quantum matter. We performed intense research on the particle yield in strong fields and on the dynamical behavior of field coherent states. Although the advances in our view on physics gained here shall need a longer process to be integrated into the models describing the mechanism of confinement and quark liberation, we funded the theoretical base for realizing the Tsallis-Pareto distribution in terms of coherent quantum states in a review article published at the end of the research period.
